I’m on a bit of a family day today which means I’ll be avoiding the internet and watching a recording of these games tonight and tomorrow morning —- but these are the initial games I’ve got in the schedule:
Ohio State vs Northwestern
Tennessee vs Georgia
Alabama vs LSU
Clemson vs Notre Dame
I’ve also got some notes from the Washington win against Oregon State already collected for Monday’s article.
It’s a big weekend for college football so feel free to discuss it all in the comments section.
Next Saturday I will also be travelling to Germany for the Seahawks game against Tampa Bay.
Gameday poster sighting:
“Bobby hill couldn’t score if a hooker volunteered”
Hahahaha. Well done Georgia fan. Well done.
Awesome.
The George Costanza painting of Mike Leach is still my all time favorite, though.
I see I’m not the only one to get the Bobby Hill likeness
One of the broadcasters said it during their last game.
How much one on one do you think we will see between Tacoma boy Kelee Ringo and Jalin Hyatt?
Man, Adetomiwa Adebawore from northwestern is eating up that ohio state run game so far today.
Ok, at this point, while watching Florida vs A and M and after watching UW last night, I am rooting for one of two scenarios:
1. Take Richardson in the first and then go BPA at every other pick.
2. Use the first four picks on defense and a WR and take Penix in the 3rd.
Penix in the third!?!?
Way too high
Last night, Penix threw several passes that can be charitably called “catchable” but either gave the defender a chance to make a play on the ball or forced the receiver to adjust and made for a tougher catch than it should have. That will not fly at the next level.
Yet there was Andre Ware with the color commentary, gushing over every throw like a carnival barker.
There’s no denying Penix has a nice arm. But he was taking a lot of risky shots last night. He’s lucky he wasn’t intercepted more than once.
That pick six was classically the problem with his scheme (and several others) in college
That isn’t a read. It’s a look off to one side then throw blind inside. All pre determined by the sideline before the snap.
When you work in this kind of offense it happens so often. The plus side is you also get to throw wide open Td’s when it works, as MP did in this game (and Hooker has been doing all season)
But you can’t project this to the league. Penix has a nice arm but there are a lot of other issues to consider
The inability to pull that throw (or the other near INTs) when it was obvious the read wasn’t there…
That’s what will sour NFL scouts.
Is that an inability, or is that how he’s being coached?
That’s the scheme
But that’s the issue. His production is a lot down to a scheme that doesn’t translate, as are the mistakes at times. So what is he? It’s so hard to be project.
I think I see what you’re saying. That’s not a read that wasn’t there. He wasn’t making a read, merely throwing when and where he was told.
How do you evaluate a prospect if he’s being shackled like that? It’s the same for Stroud. And is the message to be taken is that neither prospect is capable of making their own reads, at least in the eyes of their coaches?
The only QBs I see with the license to play the field as it were are Levis and Young. And to a lesser extent DTR.
And Richardson.
I saw him progressing through options like a pro multiple times today.
Today, while not perfect, was a really impressive day for him.
This may all be so, but it’s not an issue only with college QBs playing a simple scheme, if that is what Washington has (the receivers’ routes taken together don’t always look all that simple to me.)
Russell Wilson would occasionally pull a very similar trick–whip a throw out automatically to the flat, or on a very short out route, without any perceptible “reading” involved. And the results were not always good, either.
Anthony Richardson also has a lot of responsibilities at the LOS
Husky stadium is open to the water and can get high, swirling winds on a night like last night. Not making excuses, but weather might have been a factor.
I wish there were NextGen stats in CFB. I’d like to know what top speed Anthony Richardson hit on his 60+ yard TD run. He flat outran the Aggies D.
That was impressive.
Just turned the Florida game on to see the highlight of his touchdown run and then 2 minutes later he drops an absolute dime to a receiver over the outside shoulder in the front corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Beautiful throw
Stroud had a bad game today. Will it be considered to be an aberration or will it affect his standing among the top NFL QB prospects.
Go Blitzy! I enjoy reading your posts.
In the draft scenario where all the top QBs are selected before the Hawks first pick and Bijan Robinson is still on the board when they pick. I think you have to run to the podium to get the most dynamic playmaker in CFB. He is a freak!
Ventrell Miller is looking pretty damn good today. His play reminds me a little of KJ Wright. Covers a lot of ground despite not being the quickest player.
Newsflash: Stroud is absolutely terrible! When the first read is covered up, he totally panics. Inaccurate throws and one win Northwestern is making this a game. Never touch Ohio State QBs with a ten foot pole

Rob I’m just watching college football this weekend and specifically the RB position this weekend for some reason I don’t know why, however, a question hit me. If you have a clear number one like the Seahawks do in Walker is it important for a number two to have a different style of running and play than the first or does it really matter if they are both in the same style and mold?
Can Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim overcome his age and lack of NFL measurables with extra helpings of heart and toughness?
I’d give him a look in camp.
Ibrahim has 48 career TD’s (15 so far this season after coming back from a leg injury last year). He appears to be a real battering ram as a power runner. He indeed would make a nice complement to K9 and may be available with a
later round pick. Thunder & Lightning!
I got a real kick out of the 4th down ‘go for it / nope we’ll punt’ sequence.
Ibrahim pleading with Fleck to let him go for it after a review called him 1/2 inch short. Fleck agrees and Ibrahim wildly waving at the punt team to get off the field.
As soon as Ibrahim got out of Fleck’s ear, Fleck changed his mind and punted.
He’s not expected to test very well though and that has mattered in Seattle (and generally matters at the next level at RB)
Graphic on Thursday night showed the top 5 teams with most sacks off standard rushes. Guess who was in there?! The Hawks with 20! No need for Blitzen Adams when we can do that!
RG3 on Anthony Richardson:
I said as much after watching his last game. Some of his passes defy physics. The way the ball leaps off his hand and goes straight to the target. Obviously not on every throw, but on enough to know it’s not a fluke.
How accurate is Richardson?? I haven’t been able to watch him.
Also – really looking forward to that Tenn – Georgia game. Christmas has come early!
Accuracy isn’t his problem. Consistency is. He threw two really sweet TD passes in the 2nd half both in placed only where his WR could get it.
But part of that lack of consistency is playing behind a poor OL. Not to make any excuses for him.

I think that’s a pick though if the defender doesn’t slip?
There would have been a fight over the ball if the defender hadn’t slipped. But for all I know he was throwing at the other receiver crossing in front.
Anyway = yes the highlights are impressive.
Kenny MacIntosh making fools of Tennessee defenders
Good wins for Kentucky/Levis and Florida/Richardson
What a perfect pick Richardson would be with our first pick. Sign Geno and maybe even carry a 3rd QB in year 1 and make him the 3rd stringer. Then let him compete in year 2. If Geno beats him out thats fine, you could then get him in certain packages then let him roll year 3.
Richardson is my dream scenario with our first pick. He’d be so, so good. In my head he starts as a Taysom Hill type playmaker and ends up as Josh Allen.
Hendon Hooker, not impressive so far. Had guy for 6 that runs a 4.3 and still overthrew him. Everything else, no read 4 yd passes.
Georgia tackling, absolutely perfect.
Jalen Carter nice play
Tape & traits over what’s in the box score.
Hendon Hooker for example puts up #s, but watching that offense and it’s easy to see why he’ll have to learn a LOT @ the next level before he’s pro ready.
Pretty clearly a dafety
Safety
derp derp
Yep
Gotta give credit to the UT olineman for reacting so quickly to try to get the ball out of the end zone tho. Very smart play for a guy not used to being in that position.
Well then, shit officiating in college isn’t limited to the Pac12 I see.
Man Georgia is good this year. Alabama or Ohio State may be the only teams capable of taking them out. But I don’t think they will.
Massive pick by Ringo. If UT scores there its a ball game and now Georgia has a shot to probably put the Vols down right now.
How desperate does a team have to be to go for it on 4th and 28 with 11 minutes left in the game? But it worked – because the defense grabbed the quarterbacks facemask!
I know a team that could use an upgrade at KR/PR…
I could do without seeing Deejay Dallas out there on punts.
I watched that run and it wasn’t a straight shot to the end zone. It was impressive the way he wove around the field using blocks and avoiding tacklers. Turns out he is a track star – small but fast.
And now Alabama gets to take it out on LSU.
Bryce Young looks…off.
Bama should have plenty of backup quarterbacks = if they are needed. I’ve seen them switch QBs in past seasons.
Jalen Hurts benched for Tua Tagavailoa…in the National Championship Game.
Yeah , and now they are both starting quarterbacks in the pros. Amazing!!!!
It just goes to show that there is more than one way for a quarterback to succeed in the NFL.
Besides just being small, I’m not fond of Bryce Young’s game.
That is some amazing rules lawyering right there. How in the Hell is that Alabama’s ball?
If we were going by the spirit of the rules, it wouldn’t be, but going by the letter I can see it. If that has an effect the outcome of the game then there might be a rule change. Heck, even if it doesn’t.
They just rewarded the offense for fumbling the football, not staying in bounds, and not recovering it.
Nothing sells college football like giving Alabama free points when they’re struggling.
Notre Dame is two touchdowns ahead of Clemson. The ND running game is slowly weakening Clemson defense.
hmm Got a little chippy on the way to the locker room at half time. A Clemson player pushed a ND player to the ground, then the officials separated the teams.
Anyway, that ND defense has been rushing the Clemson quarterback really well. Wouldn’t mind having a few of their defensive linemen.
Got to put Peacock on to get ND/Clem. Hard to toggle back and forth.
Plus the World Series is going on. This has to be the best time of the year for sports!
I just had a thought that if Notre Dame wins against Clemson, would ND leapfrog Alabama into top four?? Why not right?
Notre Dames Michael Mayer has been blocking really well and has three catches. If we could get him in the second round…
There’s no chance Mayer lasts to round two
I saw that Mel Kiper has TVD on his Big Board. He is really struggling now and he seems to be hurting. I am curious if he would be the 5th QB taken in Round 1 next year if he declares for the draft Levis, Stroud, Young, Richardson and TVD in the first half of Round 1?
An LSU guard blocked an Alabama player in the back on that big run on this drive. Pretty sure that’s a penalty. That’s an easy call.
That dead-ball-touched-by-an-out-of-bounds-player call is a byzantine one.
Hell, Pac-12 (10?…9?…11?) refs wouldn’t even know the rule. If they did, they would poorly administrate it.
This might be the biggest miscarriage of officiating since the Nature Boy Rick Flair was allowed to do the forbidden Poisoned Frankenstein on King Kong Bundy.
Notre Dame up 28-0 over #4 Clemson. With Tennessee losing, could Notre Dame slip into the #4 spot??
I’m thinking they could because the sponsors love Notre Dame – plus it’s God’s Will.
Notre Dame isn’t ranked in the top 25. They’re just doing everyone a favor if they beat Clemson.
2 SEC teams, the winner of Michigan vs. Ohio State & one wild card.
Or the Supreme Court.
Notre Dame likely jumps in at the 18-21 range. They did beat a ranked Syracuse team last week and barely lost to OSU, however the two other losses were against garbage teams. This is a team that is finding itself under a new coach, but has a glaring hole at QB. The OL might be the best in college football right now, that Clemson front is one of the most talented, and despite knowing what was coming and stacking the box, they couldn’t stop ND from running it down their throats.
Benjamin Morrison has good bloodlines (father played in the NFL for a number of years), is 6’2” with length and has great instincts for a true frosh. His other two schools he was looking at were UW and Bama, both of which are the best at finding and producing NFL CB’s the last 10+ years.
Alabama versus LSU was a solid game. Couple big-name players showed up tonight
/Tyler Van Dyke seems to be falling off the map, is he still a 1st-2nd round guy? He was playing great last year but really being limited by Mario Cristobal this year
I know he’s playing hurt but also Mario Cristobal has to be the worst college coach. He’s the destroyer of QBs. At this point if Van Dyke declares, and you’re not able to get the likes of Richardson or Levis, I’d roll the dice on him in with a 3rd round pick for sure! Could be a steal there. I still like his game, I don’t like his offense he’s in.
Cristobal is a complete fraud
Should be fired after one season
This is the only semi official thing I’ve heard about why a healthy looking Zach Charbonnet didn’t play at all for UCLA vs ASU tonight.
Rob any thoughts on N Carolina QB Maye? He is putting up some solid numbers.
He’s not eligible so I’m not studying him
I watch 6-10 games a week between Sat-Mon and then study individual players the rest of the week. I don’t have time to start adding 2024 or 2025 players 😂
