Live: 2020 NFL Draft (first round)

April 23rd, 2020 | Written by Rob Staton

Welcome to the live blog. I’ll be posting thoughts on every pick as they come in.

Join in via the comments section but please — no tipping picks.

#1 Cincinnati — Joe Burrow (QB, LSU)
The obvious pick. The best player in college football in 2019 and the Bengals will hope for better days with their new star.

#2 Washington — Chase Young (DE, Ohio State)
The top two picks were locked in weeks ago. The Redskins will try to mimic the Niners by loading up on defensive linemen.

#3 Detroit — Jeff Okudah (CB, Ohio State)
He’s a terrific talent. The best corner to enter the league since Patrick Peterson. Tall, long, fast, physical.

#4 New York Giants — Andrew Thomas (T, Georgia)
Remember when the media had him going in the late first a few months ago? He’s been a top five pick since day one.

#5 Miami — Tua Tagovailoa (QB, Alabama)
This is a huge gamble. $30m guaranteed for a player who is recovering from a serious hip injury, who you haven’t been able to give a medical to.

#6 LA Chargers — Justin Herbert (QB, Oregon)
Herbert is erratic and far from a sure thing. He’s also athletic, creative and has a strong arm. When you need a QB, Miami and LA are showing you have to take a chance.

#7 Carolina — Derrick Brown (DT, Auburn)
Terrific player. The second or third best in the draft. He can anchor, rush and he was disruptive in every game last season.

#8 Arizona — Isaiah Simmons (LB, Clemson)
He’s a fantastic athlete who will be able to spy Russell Wilson and cover George Kittle, provide pass rush and he can attack from so many angles.

#9 Jacksonville — C.J. Henderson (CB, Florida)
Clearly the teams who were looking to move up aren’t feeling it. The Jaguars needed a corner and this made sense. Henderson is incredibly quick and smooth but he can track the ball better and his tackling is suspect.

#10 Cleveland — Jedrick Wills (T, Alabama)
All the talk was the tackles would go off the board quickly. It took to pick ten for the second to leave the board. The Browns didn’t waste any time picking Wills.

#11 New York Jets — Mekhi Becton (T, Louisville)
The Jets really needed to get a tackle and this made a lot of sense. He’s an incredible athlete but needs to work on his pass sets. It’s surprising to see Tristan Wirfs lasting this long. What’s the story there?

#12 Las Vegas — Henry Ruggs (WR, Alabama)
Ruggs isn’t just about speed. He catches well, he’s better in the red zone than you’d expect and you’ll have to have a plan for him on defense every week.

#13 Tampa Bay (v/SF) — Tristan Wirfs (T, Iowa)
The first trade sees Tampa Bay swap places with the Niners. I don’t think anyone expected Wirfs to last this long. He’s a great fit at right tackle.

#14 San Francisco — Javon Kinlaw (DT, South Carolina)
Kinlaw is a beast. He was a true top-10 talent. The Niners essentially swapped out DeForest Buckner and replaced him with a cheaper — yet potentially superior — player.

#15 Denver — Jerry Jeudy (WR, Alabama)
I’ve said for a long time — Jeudy is ideal for a team with a young quarterback. He’s a terrific route runner and very reliable. This is a smart move to help Drew Lock.

#16 Atlanta — A.J. Terrell (CB, Clemson)
Terrell was a hot name late in the process. He’s a 4.42 runner and he can stick in coverage. He has shorter than ideal arms but he was trending towards the top-20.

#17 Dallas — Ceedee Lamb (WR, Oklahoma)
The Cowboys have big needs on defense and a new hole at center — but clearly they felt the value was too good here. They paid Amari Cooper and now they have Lamb.

#18 Miami — Austin Jackson (T, USC)
They needed to draft a left tackle and that’s what Jackson is. He’s raw and needs time. Yet the potential to be special is very much there.

#19 Las Vegas — Damon Arnette (CB, Ohio State)
Arnette is a quality player. He’s really good. It’s a big surprise and a reach — but he’s talented. He’s so physical and tough but he can cover too. He’s small though and lacks length.

#20 Jacksonville — K’Lavon Chaisson (EDGE, LSU)
I’m really surprised by this. The Jaguars now have two pass rushers who are 255-260lbs (with Josh Allen). His pass rush win percentage is poor. He has injuries. He’s a quality person though and will help improve the locker room.

#21 Philadelphia — Jalen Reagor (WR, TCU)
Reagor is a fantastic player. He’s so explosive and physical. He can get downfield but his terrific lower body power enables him to leap above taller defenders and high-point. Great pick.

#22 Minnesota — Justin Jefferson (WR, LSU)
The Vikings swap Stefon Diggs for Jefferson. He’s mature, consistent, plays above his size to win contested catches and he’s a safe pair of hands.

#23 LA Chargers (v/NE) — Kenneth Murray (LB, Oklahoma)
The Chargers move way up, jumping from #37 up to #23. It only cost them a third rounder. That won’t encourage the Seahawks if they want to move down. If the price to go down 14 spots is a third rounder, that’s not great value. Murray is high character, highly athletic and he packs a punch.

#24 New Orleans — Cesar Ruiz (C, Michigan)
I’m not sure how he fits a year after they selected Erik McCoy and after recently extending Andrus Peat. However, Ruiz is a fantastic player and person. The value here is superb.

#25 San Francisco (v/MIN) — Brandon Aiyuk (WR, Arizona State)
The third trade and it’s a surprise to see the Niners move up, considering how few picks they have in this class. Even so — they lost Emmanuel Sanders and have gone up to make sure they get the receiver they want. Aiyuk is going to be a terror in that offense. His acceleration plus his ability to beat you deep and in space is incredible. This was a good day for the Niners.

#26 Green Bay (v/MIA) — Jordan Love (QB, Utah State)
In my final mock I had Green Bay trade with the Seahawks at #27. Instead, they go a spot further and deal with Miami. They weren’t trying to get above Seattle because they made the move for a QB. The Packers are planning for life after Aaron Rodgers.

#27 Seattle — Jordyn Brooks (LB, Texas Tech)
It’s a stunner. The Seahawks take a linebacker in round one. He’s a 4.54 runner but he didn’t do any of the other tests at the combine. They didn’t go O-line, D-line, running back or receiver. I’m going to need some time to work this out. Is it to replace Mychal Kendricks? Is it planning for life beyond K.J. Wright? And if so, did that really warrant a first round pick a year after they traded up in round three to get Cody Barton? In terms of need, fit and board — I’m struggling to understand the thought process.

#28 Baltimore — Patrick Queen (LB, LSU)
I like Patrick Queen. He’s an ideal fit for the Ravens. He fits their mentality and their approach. The Ravens continue to move forward.

#29 Tennessee — Isaiah Wilson (T, Georgia)
Isaiah Wilson is really good. He was always destined for round one and this is an ideal pick for a team who want to batter opponents with Derrick Henry.

#30 Miami (v/GB) — Noah Igbinoghene (CB, Auburn)
He’s another player who was said to be rising late. The Dolphins already signed Byron Jones so this doesn’t say much for the future of Xavier Howard.

#31 Minnesota (v/SF) — Jeff Gladney (CB, TCU)
Mike Zimmer loves to draft cornerbacks and it’s not a surprise to see one go here.

#32 Kansas City — Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB, LSU)
Big Clyde is a superstar waiting to happen in this offense. What a pick. Perfect.

  1. KD says:

    Hooray! Let’s do this!

    and no tipping picks 😉

    • Sea Mode says:

Wait, what is “tipping picks” if it’s all an internet stream anyways?

Like, when is it ok to start reacting to and talking about a certain team’s pick?

Should Rob/someone post each pick in all caps/bold in the comments signalling it’s ok to discuss it and so each one can kind of be its own discussion topic?

      • Dave O. says:

        >Wait, what is “tipping picks” if it’s all an internet stream anyways?

Picks announced by Shefter and the like on Twitter before Goodell announces it

        • Sea Mode says:

Ah, ok. I just thought that since those guys weren’t going to be there live this year, they wouldn’t really be able to tweet it out ahead of the broadcast anyways.

      • KD says:

Sometimes, the pick is leaked on twitter before the pick is announced by the commissioner. Kind of spoils the surprise

        • charlietheunicorn says:

Won’t have people watching the green room and phones to get tipped off before it is announced… 🙂

  2. charlietheunicorn says:

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  3. Troy says:

Are you all ready for an inevitable trade down when an elite talent might still be on the board? Cause you better be!

  4. case says:

Rob – Thank you for another year’s work to connect this community to our team and make us a bit smarter. To echo everyone else, the content has been just that much better. I really appreciate the careful way you balance passion, analysis, level-headedness and an exceptional use of the English language. Thank you for all the time you put in.

  5. Tony says:

I like the trade downs. It’s become its own meme for the way hawks approach drafts. I love that they trust it and don’t fold to Twitter roars.

  6. Sea Mode says:

    (re-post)

    Per Breer just now:

Here’s something crazy: I’m starting to hear more about teams looking at running backs, with Miami, Seattle and Kansas City among those in the mix to take a swing on one of the guys in the top group. Would they do it in Round 1? We’ll see. The consensus I’ve gotten has Georgia’s D’Andre Swift as the top guy. But someone whose name keeps coming up is LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire. I’ve had more than a couple guys say they’d turn on the Tigers’ tape to watch someone else, and be drawn to the diminutive but hyper-versatile back’s skill set. One team mentioned him to me as a potentially perfect sidecar to Tom Brady in Tampa. The backs could start coming off the board late in the first, or maybe with these teams dealing back into the top of the second round.

Clue #5 is up: a scene from “The Other Guys”

    https://twitter.com/PeteCarroll/status/1253462508339261442

    • Coleslaw says:

So they aren’t trading up lmao

    • Volume12 says:

      Hahahahaha! 😂😂

      ‘You drafting a bisexual?’

    • Sea Mode says:

Dang, this one has me stumped. Ideas from Twitter:

Will Ferrell here and in Zoolander clue. USC? Austin Jackson?

Isaiah Simmons.. (shooting up-trading up for new weapon/black Panther reference/ length-toy story wingspan reference)

Fast lineman in the trenches, 88 inch wingspan, 5.09 40, protection for russ, working two jobs as a basketball player and tackle… going with Alex Taylor

WAIT…. What if the black panther clip means we are trading up to Carolinas pick, which would be #7 , and we could get Isaiah Simmons there. Plus in zoolander, he uses a 2nd look, Isaiah Simmons plays multiple positions, meaning different looks.

Darrell Taylor. 2 jobs. He can play DE and LB similar to Bruce Irving

A little bit of a Gamble…. Darrell Taylor?

A new weapon? (WR/RB) for Wilson

  8. John_s says:

Looking back through PC’s draft history, Seahawks have drafted a lineman (OL or DL) with one of their first two picks every year. They have drafted an OL + DL with the first two picks twice.

  9. charlietheunicorn says:

1917 – Run like the wind (Speed to burn)
Toy Story – Always falling forward (Get tough yards)
    Zoolander – M or W (Throwing Star)
Black Panther – The realization/making of a King (Epic Production)
Desk Pop – Don’t think Just Go (Hit the hole hard)

Leads me to think, Jonathan Taylor

  10. Robert R says:

Just wanted to thank Rob for the blog and all your writing. Also wanted to say keep an eye on Asi asi the Tight End. And finally———Go Hawks!——-

  11. Coleslaw says:

Please don’t say who’s been picked until its announced on TV. This is always a problem. Please dont be that guy.

    • Pickering says:

And please don’t be the first guy to say ‘I can’t believe JSPC picked X instead of my draft crush’. 🙂

  12. Chuckles says:

Rob would be awesome to see you do side by side picks. Who you would select whenever the hawks come up and then we can look back how your selections versus the actual picks performed.

  13. Kenny Sloth says:

Im in the seahawks zoom to boo Goodell

  14. charlietheunicorn says:

Watch Round 1 tonight starting at 5PM PST on ESPN, NFLN, and ABC!

Wowza, going to be monster ratings

  15. Sea Mode says:

Clue #7 is up: Rambo First Blood chase scene

    https://twitter.com/PeteCarroll/status/1253469427837726720

  16. Jace says:

So excited for tonight! My final mock. Thanks again Rob for all that you do!

Trade down W/ Green Bay for 30, 94
    Trade down W/ Indy for 34, 122, 160
    Trade up W/ Chicago 59 and 122 for 50
    Trade down W Miami 160 to 173 and 227

RD2: 34- RT- Isaiah Wilson- Georgia
I think the Hawks would love to draft Jonathan Taylor or Jalen Reagor, but I see both guys being gone by this point. So I’m going with the guy I started my mocks with and that’s Wilson who is a monster size lineman, just the way Solari likes them. Was a leader on one of the best OL’s in the nation last year.
Alt- Ezra Cleveland, Josh Jones, Austin Jackson

RD 2: 50- DE- Julian Okwara- Notre Dame
A long quick DE that can fill the LEO role. Athletic with some twitch to him. I could see him playing the old Bruce Irvin role.
Alt- Jabari Zuniga, Josh Uche, Curtis Weaver, Darrell Taylor

RD 2: 64- DT- DaVon Hamilton- Ohio St.
His best football could be ahead of him. Stout run defender with great power. One year starter at Ohio St. 6 sacks last year.
Alt- Justin Madubuike, *Raekwon Davis, Jonathon Greenard

RD 3: 94- LB- Willie Gay Jr- Miss. St. Testing numbers very close to B Wags. They need more speed at the LB position.
Alt- *Jordyn Brooks, Troy Dye, Davion Taylor, Malik Harrison

RD 3: 101- WR- Van Jefferson- Florida
One of the best route runners in college football. Sticky hands.
Alt- Bryan Edwards, *Chase Claypool, Devin Duvernay, *Michael Pittman Jr

RD 4: 133- CB- Bryce Hall- Virginia
Would have been one of the top CB’s in the class if it wasn’t for injures.
Alt- Michael Ojemudia, Troy Pride JR, Terrell Burgess, K’von Wallace, Amik Robertson

RD 4: 144- OG- Damien Lewis- LSU
Another grown man to add to the OG competition.
Alt- Shane Lemieux, *John Simpson, Logan Sternberg

RD 5: 173- DT- McTelvin Agim- Arkansas
Agim can get into the backfield with a quick first step. Posted 5 sacks last year.
Alt- Tyler Clark, Trevis Gipson, Benito Jones

RD 6: 214- RB- Michael Warren II- Cinci
His nickname is “The Truck”. Runs tough and kind of remind me of Marshawn.
Alt- Deejay Dallas, Josh Kelley, *Zak Moss

RD 7: 227- WR- James Proche- SMU
They add another receiver, but this time one that can add to special teams either by returning kicks or punts.
Joe Reed, K.J. Osborn, *Antonio Gibson

**** Side note: Sleeper Picks not included AJ Espenesa, Jordan Elliot, Clyde Edwards Helaire, JK Dobbins.

  17. veryal says:

Colts GM on the Pat McAfee show just mentioned Schneider as THE guy to trade with during the draft. says he’s a magician at what he does and was impressed with what he did last year

    • BobbyK says:

He’s definitely great at maneuvering. Just wish LJ Collier wasn’t part of the equation last year. That’s kind of like drafting a 4th round guy in the 1st round. I’ve been texting with my former student scout this week. He works for the Cowboys now but said the Jets had a “day three” grade on Collier last year. Please, just draft a stud or BPA this year right off the bat – get us a Jonathan Taylor (or JK/Clyde). Maybe with a slight trade down if all three happen to be there at 27.

  18. MSL says:

What’s the best place to watch draft coverage?

  19. Sea Mode says:

Lol. Mooch is wearing shorts with his suit top.

  20. charlietheunicorn says:

    Virtual NFL draft

So, just like everyone who does a fantasy draft every year for the last 15 years

    *crying*

  21. Volume12 says:

    Well… I Always have fun with ya’ll. Let’s draft!

    • Sea Mode says:

      Let’s do this!

Also, did you notice in The Other Guys clip he says at the 0:15 mark: “so, we’re gonna dance in Highsmith paperwork?”

      Am I hearing that right?

  22. I love Harry Conick but this is dreadful.

  23. First pick should have been done by 510 dang it. Let’s move this glacier.

  24. KD says:

And thus, I have opened beer #1

  25. Volume12 says:

F**k off Goodell. Move it along.

  26. charlietheunicorn says:

Tua has a tight suit, nice threads.

  27. mishima says:

I’m going to need some espresso.

  28. Coleslaw says:

Goodell: “Due to technical difficulties the draft will be postponed.”

  29. Sea Mode says:

Daaaang. Kingsbury’s war room destroys everybody…

    https://twitter.com/AZCardinals/status/1253477953251340288

    • mishima says:

      Dayum.

    • LantermanC says:

      Only 2 screens… and a TV.
J Schneider supposedly knocked down 2 walls so he could have 25 screens up at the same time.

      • Volume12 says:

        Schneidz ain’t f**kn’ around.

      • mishima says:

Yeah, but he’s watching Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy on 2 of those screens.

      • Sea Mode says:

Maybe I’ll be proved wrong if we get a glance at the feed, but from when I listened to the press conference, when JS said “like 25 screens”, he meant it just as a general way of saying “a lot of screens”. But then Condotta and others took it literally and started writing about it.

But I could be totally wrong. JS did say he is a visual person, but from the pics we’ve seen so far, there are big physical boards just like in the draft room, so I highly doubt he has literally 25 screens.

  30. Coleslaw says:

Is this the “trade time” for teams on the verge of a trade?

  31. DougM says:

My wife is watching with me. She says Joe Burrow’s mom needs to hire an interior decorater.

  32. Volume12 says:

Oh god. Why is ‘Booger’ here?

  33. charlietheunicorn says:

    *shocker*

  34. SoCal12 says:

This is so weird seeing these kids at their home for this like they’re waiting for their report card and not the biggest moment of their life.

  35. Gohawks5151 says:

Laying on a little thick. He’s good enough on talent. Stop pretending he grew up poor.

  36. Volume12 says:

Won’t happen next year. ‘Sunshine’ will go 1st overall. ’22 it’ll probably be Oregon’s Thibodeaux or USC’s Drake Jackson, but I wish we had a dilemna at the top of the draft.

  37. KD says:

The time between “the pick is in” and the actual announcement is insufferable

  38. charlietheunicorn says:

Finally, now the real draft starts! Pick #3

  39. mishima says:

Welp. That’s the last we’ll hear of Joe Burrow.

  40. SoCal12 says:

Chase Young could use an interior decorator as well.

  41. Volume12 says:

    That Skins D-line is loaded.

Montez Sweat, Chase Young, Jon Allen, Da’Ron Payne, Tim Settle, Matt Ioannidis. Kerrigan off the edge. Good lord.

  42. Frank says:

Time for this to get interesting, Gettleman is a wild card.

  43. Cameron says:

Rob is 3/3 so far (though of course the first 2 were slam dunks). 🙂

  44. drewdawg11 says:

I’m surprised that the lions didn’t trade down and still get Okudah. Maybe nobody really wanted to move up there, which speaks to the lack of buzz over the QBs.

  45. Ashish says:

    OT selection next

  46. KD says:

Screw it! Watch the giants take Tua here lol

  47. charlietheunicorn says:

Giants look like they might be trying to work a trade……. thumbs moving fast texting

  48. Volume12 says:

Was Shawn Springs the last corner to go #3 overall?

  49. KD says:

Alright MIA, do you trust those medical reports?

  50. mishima says:

Thomas family currently winning the drape war.

  51. CojackTX says:

Rob, you are once again validated with Andrew Thomas being a top-5 pick and the first OT off the board. Probably a guy punch to the Dolphins at 5.

  52. Hawkster says:

OK, so I’m derailed, had Simmons to NYG. Got that over with

  53. SoCal12 says:

Rob you’re so spot on with you’re evaluations sometimes. Why I respect ya.

  54. SoCal12 says:

Tua’s house looks the nicest so far.

  55. Ishmael says:

I think that’s a great pick for the Giants. Reckon Jeremiah et al are dead wrong about Thomas. Fans should be very happy, that’s Barkley and Jones sorted.

    • Henry Taylor says:

It’s a classic example of people like DJ being terrible at their jobs. Happy for Rob on this one, but it always seemed obvious to me.

  56. bv eburg says:

So much for us trading with the Redskins, completely blows my draft board. Wait til next year SDB!

  57. Volume12 says:

The right pick for them. IMO.

  58. Grand Ridge says:

Dolphins trying to right the wrong of passing on Brees…hope for the best but seeing glass

  59. MoBo says:

Dolphins take the risky part and take Tua

  60. KD says:

    Gotta be Herbert here, right?

  61. CojackTX says:

I’m not usually one for spectacle, but I have to say that the draft seems less exciting without the crowd and players in the green room.

    • mishima says:

I’m digging it, esp. the pacing. Thought last year’s NashVegas debacle was unwatchable.

  62. TomLPDX says:

Good for Miami. Let him sit for a year and learn

  63. Sea Mode says:

We play in Miami this season.

  64. charlietheunicorn says:

At this rate, Seattle picks after 9PM pacific time.

  65. Ralphy says:

So DET trades really good DBs for next to nothing and then turns around and blows the #3 pick on a DB. So ridiculous IMO. Get Derrick Brown and make your front four legit.

    • BobbyK says:

That’s why they’re the Lions. He’s going to be a great player, sure, but they could have had a pair of lockdown CBs.

  66. Volume12 says:

Chargers go w/ Herbert, an OT, or are we in for our 1st surprise?

  67. K J Smith says:

Any chance we take a shot with a trade to Carolina at 7 to get Simmons?

  68. Matt says:

Herbert…San Diego will be on the market for a QB in 2022.

  69. Pretty vanilla so far.

  70. TomLPDX says:

The Chargers are still gonna be just so close…but not quite there.

  71. Ishmael says:

I just don’t think he’s that good? Good luck to the Chargers I guess

    • Matt says:

4 year starter in a joke conference that didn’t improve from his Sophomore year. He looks like a 1st year starter who needs time. Oregon coaches clearly didn’t trust him.

  72. charlietheunicorn says:

Derrick Brown better not slip to the 49ers

  73. Dinosaw13 says:

    Seahawks trade up for simmons…

  74. Denver Hawker says:

Is this broadcast on delay? They seem to spend a lot of time talking about the player that ends up getting picked.

  75. Frank says:

Little surprised about Tua over Herbert or Love, but so far an extremely predictable draft. It’s gotta b Brown or Simmons next I’d think.

  76. Hebegbs says:

Herbert pretty obvious pick for chargers. Here comes Simmons to Car.

  77. charlietheunicorn says:

    Final 2020 mock draft
#1 Cincinnati — Joe Burrow (QB, LSU)
#2 Washington — Chase Young (EDGE, Ohio State)
#3 Detroit — Jeff Okudah (CB, Ohio State)
#4 New York Giants — Tristan Wirfs (G, Iowa)
    #5 Miami — Andrew Thomas (T, Georgia)
#6 LA Chargers — Justin Herbert (QB, Miami)

Rob, not bads actually…. 5/6 on guys picked

  78. Hebegbs says:

Love may be moving up or was that it in the run for QB for awhile?

  79. Doug says:

I want that trade for Simmons to happen!

  80. Trevor says:

Fist time in 20 years I have accurately picked the first 6 picks in the mock we do at work. Need Derrick Brown to Carolina. Come on Panthers!

  81. Max Morrison says:

I sometimes feel that injuries at College level get overstated. At young 20’s these men can recover very quickly. I get that there is always a risk. But from recent memory…. Jaylon Smith/Myles Jack who we’re huge injury risks have taken the league by storm. I struggle to think of an ‘injury’ plagued player to be taken and actually not be healthy. Thoughts??

  82. Yes. My adopted hometown team picked wisely!!!

  83. KD says:

Not a whole lot of obvious trade scenarios left if JAX goes with Love

  84. Volume12 says:

Ceedee Lamb, Simmons, or an OT for ‘Zona?

I think CJ Henderson might go to the Jags.

  85. Donovan says:

At what point do Hawks consider trading up to get Isaiah Simmons?

  86. Volume12 says:

Simmons, Bucannon, Reddick. They have a type.

  87. WallaSean says:

Starting to feel really uneasy about who the Cards and 49ers get, I do not want to see Simmons in division games.

  88. Henry Taylor says:

    Noooooo

  89. Matt says:

    God dammit…Simmons to the Cards.

If we do our usual first round nonsense…gonna race towards 3rd in the NFC West real quick.

    • Matt says:

Such a smart move…wait til R2 to get OL – man, this division is so damn tough.

    • CHawk Talker Eric says:

If high draft picks were all it takes to win a division, then teams like ARI and CLE would be winning Super Bowls. Not saying I’m happy about facing Simmons twice a year, but it’s a team sport.

      • Matt says:

Take away our QB and look at the rosters in our division. We have to nail this draft because ours is t very good.

        • Scottie says:

Nonsense. Can you come down off hyperbole mountain for a few hours… the doom and gloom schtick is old.

        • CHawk Talker Eric says:

No doubt we need to replenish the roster. But just because ARI lands a phenomenal defensive prospect doesn’t mean they’re gonna leapfrog to the top of the division.

  90. Cameron says:

Interesting, 8 picks in and no trades.

  91. AndrewP says:

Bummer they’ll play against Simmons, but, really glad Derek Brown is not going to be in the NFC West… One Aaron Donald is enough.

  92. Jets and Browns doing back flips as tackles fall. What now for Jax? Kinlaw?

  93. TomLPDX says:

Damn the Cards! They are gonna be a tough out for years to come.

  94. MoBo says:

We’ve got to see Simmons two times a season. Ouch

  95. Aaron says:

    Cards got Simmons…S#&!

  96. KD says:

NFC West just got a bit tougher

  97. SoCal12 says:

Cardinals always pick my favorite guys. Gotta stop having favorites.

  98. Trevor says:

Crap! Needed Becton there to the Cards.

  99. Dinosaw13 says:

    Damn… Cards

  100. Coleslaw says:

The rest of the west always drafts so well… F%#$

  101. pdway says:

well dammit – – things falling into place pretty nicely for the Cards. They’re like the anti-Rams right now.

Seeing Simmons go to them felt like a fantasy draft where you know the guy ahead of you is gonna take the player you’re hoping they don’t . . .

  102. Cameron says:

It’s inevitable. Fall in love with a prospect, watch an NFC rival pick them.

  103. drewdawg11 says:

Physically ill. Was hoping Simmons left the board sooner. Can’t stand that they got this guy.

  104. charlietheunicorn says:

Only 1 OL has gone, which is a bit surprising.

Should be a run soon….. real soon

  105. Cameron says:

Gotta be Wirfs to TB here, right? Most explosive lineman by far, to protect Brady?

  106. SoCal12 says:

Simmons the best house so far in my living room power ranking, with Tua right underneath.

  107. Sea Mode says:

Wait, Rob, who is reading whom? Or are you two on conference call…?

    Lance Zierlein
    @LanceZierlein
    ·1m

I Simmons is a safety in a backer’s body who is learning to play linebacker. He can rush, cover the slot, has played on the back-end and can run and chase like a mother. He needs to work on recognition of blocking schemes near the line, but he can guard Kittle & spy R. Wilson

  108. Volume12 says:

Here’s the thing with Simmons. He’s gonna have to settle on 1 position before you cash in on his versatility or you’ll end up with a Bucannon or Reddick. 1-2 year wonders.

    • Matt says:

I disagree. He did that his entire college career. Buchanon and Redding did not. There are a lot of snaps of him doing it all at the highest level.

      • Volume12 says:

He was a rover at Clemson. He got to roam free. The NFL is much more structured and disciplined. Won’t happen.

        • Matt says:

That’s way oversimplifying what he did. But to each his own.

          • Volume12 says:

That’s exactly what he did though. He’s not a plug and play guy.

            • Matt says:

You are acting as if they just put him on the field and said “do whatever you want.” Not how it works. And sure, he is not a plug and play – but you don’t draft Simmons as a traditional plug and play guy. That’s like buying a Swiss Army knife to only use it as a bottle opener. If that’s what you want, but a bottle opener.

              • Volume12 says:

That’s my point. Your gonna ask him to play all those different positions year 1 ?!? In the NFL?!? In the SEC of the NFL?

                • Matt says:

                  “Isaiah, shut down George Kittle.”

                  “Isaiah, spy Russell Wilson.”

                  “Isaiah, destroy McVay’s her sweep.”

That’s 6 critical games for him to be a total weapon.

                  • Volume12 says:

He’s not covering Kittle. Have you seen his movement skills in coverage? He’s a jack of all trades, master of none. What will he hang his hat on?

                  • Matt says:

Volume12 – then I guess you should be pumped they made a terrible pick of an overrated player. No harm, no foul.

          • Kenny Sloth says:

He didnt have a complicated job Idk what ur point is?

That role doesnt exist in most base schemes

            • Matt says:

There is no reason to over complicate things for a player who is 6’4” 240 and runs a 4.39. His job will be to eliminate TEs, pass catching RBs, and mobile QBs. In today’s NFL – that is crazy value to have 1 player fill that role.

    • mike says:

2nd coming of the honey badger. I think they’ll figure out how to use him, unfortunately.

  109. Tony says:

Cards were either getting brown or Simmons. We were screwed any way. Id rather keep the elite DT outta the division.

    • WallaSean says:

Good point, but they have had similar types previously, probably better off not dealing with Brown up the middle for ten years.

  110. Volume12 says:

    There it is.

Right guy, wrong pick in 1st… I call it a wash!

  112. Michael Hasslinger says:

Pauline: With Derrick Brown off the board, the Cardinals take the next best defender in Isaiah Simmons. He’s a sensational athlete that impacts as a pass rusher while also possessing the skills to drop 25 yards downfield in coverage. He can do a lot of things, but Arizona best develop a system and position for him as Simmons is not a plug and play defender.

  113. Trevor says:

Who is the first WR off the board?

  114. Frank says:

I’m thinking Wirf to Browns, then Ruggs to the Jets.

  115. Nathan says:

Tampa can get one of these tackles now without having to move up.

  120. CHawk Talker Eric says:

I don’t see Wills as a pro LT but who am I?

  121. Matt says:

    49ers gonna get Ruggs, huh?

    • Producehawk says:

      Ceedee? We shall see

      • JC3 says:

9ers got a brand new Buckner with 20 millions saving, why can’t we do that instead of stockpiling S?

        • CHawk Talker Eric says:

Straight up, with the same pick (after 1 spot trade down) they got from IND for Buckner. Save a ton of cap space and replace a pro bowl caliber DL with the same for free.

  188. WallaSean says:

Kinlaw will be a problem, but i’m glad the 49ers went defense. Their DL is still downgraded over last season and we know Jimmy G is the weak link, hope they pick a bust at WR later, I hear they can be had in the 4th round.

    • WallaSean says:

i just wish they didn’t fleece a 4th of the Bucs

    • KD says:

This. It’s a lateral move that freed up some cap space for SF. He’s a replacement for a proven commodity, so as good as Kinlaw is, it’s not necessarily an upgrade over Buckner.

  189. Hawkcrazy says:

Kinlaw at rookie contract so much an upgrade over Deforest Buckner. 2 of my favorite players going to NFC West with Simmons to Arizona and Kinlaw to San Fran. Sad day so far. Hope the Hawks add a player near as talented – Taylor or CEH – would act as salve for the hurt I feel.

This draft is playing perfectly for the Seahawks to trade down. Only 1 name off Rob’s board of 15 names with 7 picks left. Oh Boy!

  245. Donovan says:

Four of Rob’s RD 1 talents from his Big Board still available: Ruiz, I. Wilson, and the two RB (Taylor and CEH).

Should be at least one available. Will be interesting to see what they do.

I still suspect a trade down out of the first. And, with all the mocks we all practiced, I tend to think it would be the right move.

  246. Paul Cook says:

On a side note…it’s just unbelievable as much as I know why…how diminished the RB position is in today’s NFL.

  247. Volume12 says:

    Gotta replace Ngakoue .

  248. Bruce Smith says:

Hopefully Jordan Love lasts until the Seahawks picks which should give us greater leverage in a trade down scenario.

  249. charlietheunicorn says:

Entering the danger-zone for RBs being selected.

  250. Paul Cook says:

Chaisson makes round one after all. Betting on potential.

  251. KD says:

    Yaaaaawwwwwn pick

  252. DirtyDoc says:

Any worries about the Seahawks chances of moving down considering the lack of trades thus far?

  253. Cameron says:

Glad some team feel for Chaisson early, pushing more (and better) prospects down.

  254. SoCal12 says:

Chaisson’s got a Top 3 house. Might be the best next to Simmons.

  255. DC says:

Pre-planning for shipping out YN before the 2020 season starts?

  256. Volume12 says:

    Gotta be a receiver here

  257. DC says:

    Mims to Philly?

  258. Hawkster says:

So NE can take a shot at Love?

  259. Kenny Sloth says:

    Jefferson, Mims here

    Maybe Reagor

  260. WallaSean says:

Bullet dodged, one of the players i hoped we would avoid, like Gay, Chinn, Duggar later. Now someone else please take Gross My Toast.

  261. Paul Cook says:

    Is Reagor gone here?

  262. KD says:

I think ESPN already tipped it :/

  263. chris says:

brock is furious that chaisson is off the board.

  264. Paul Cook says:

    Yup. Gone. As thought.

  265. Scot04 says:

So far NFC doing very well in draft. Hreat pick for Philly

  266. CHawk Talker Eric says:

I’m watching the ESPN feed and did I just hear someone say Chaisson is the 2nd best edge in this draft?

  267. Paul Cook says:

Outside of Wilson, Ruiz, Taylor, Cleveland…someone I’m forgetting…it might be trade down as expected….

  268. Cameron says:

    There goes my WR crush.

  269. Sea Mode says:

    Watch MIN select Diggs… lol

  270. You get this feeling we are making our pick at 27.

  271. Paul Cook says:

Ohh…I forgot about Jefferson…do you have to take him if he’s there???

  272. Big Mike says:

Ruiz or one of the RBs or Wilson gonna be there for Seattle. Do they pull the trigger?

  273. Kenny Sloth says:

    NE moving down. No Love

  274. Are the Patriots going to trade with the Chargers?

  275. Ben Ft. Worth says:

Yes they will. And no they shouldn’t. Too much talent on the board to not trade down. You gotta get more picks if possible. You can still get great players in the early 2nd and grab a 4th or 5th.

  276. Big Mike says:

    where that info from?

  277. Tony says:

    gotta say.

I’m really enjoying this draft. Less spectacle, more focus on football so far. Liking the look into players homes. Less dress up and guys trying to brand during draft. Plus less bs from media, green room crap and random fan crap. Just football and pick talk.

  278. WallaSean says:

really starting to worry about trading back, John is the man, but it takes two..Taylor at 27 is still there, Wilson, Ruiz too but if they are not I feel we would lose a lot of value if we had to pick.

  279. Paul Cook says:

Did anyone else see that one coming before they could type it?

  280. Scot04 says:

Ugh NE trades back to chargers

  281. Troy says:

Still no RB off the board, wonder which team will be the first to take a RB?

  282. Sea Mode says:

    Nice call on Jefferson, Kenny.

    • Kenny Sloth says:

Thanks im having a really good year thanks to everyone’s hard work esp Rob and you. And Vol of course 💚💙

  283. SoCal12 says:

Roger’s awkwardness makes this feel like an Eric Andre skit

  284. Paul Cook says:

Okay…what sexy late first round picks are left for us?

  285. Scot04 says:

Hope Seattle able to get good value if able to trade back

  286. KD says:

So if Love goes here, we’re running out of trade bait by the time we get to 27, or we can make a trade at 27, but not far enough back for value compensation if it means sacrificing our (PCJS) #1 target

  287. Sea Mode says:

Dang, that’s exactly the kind of trade we want. Let’s see.

    Field Yates
    @FieldYates
    ·4m

    Patriots trade: Pick 23.

Chargers trade: Pick 37, Pick 71.

  288. Hawks4life says:

wow the chargers really wanted pick 23. NE SCORED

  289. CHawk Talker Eric says:

Damn Patriots make the trade we were looking for.

  290. Paul Cook says:

    Murray?

  291. HOUSE says:

Chargers grabbing Murray or Queen here?

  292. Volume12 says:

Ooohh. Man the Bolts have themselves some kind of defense.

  293. Paul Cook says:

    Got it. Lucked out.

  294. Producehawk says:

Feeling pretty good about my house at least lol

  295. HOUSE says:

2 RBs in the next 3 picks… I feel it

  296. CHawk Talker Eric says:

Nice pick by LAC. Murray is the best traditional LB in the draft. Simmons is a hybrid.

  297. Big Mike says:

Now guaranteed that one of CEH, Taylor, Ruiz or Wilson will be there at #27

  298. Sea Mode says:

    I know it’s over-used in today’s culture, but CRINGE…

    https://twitter.com/DangeRussWilson/status/1253519375836954624

  299. Kenny Sloth says:

As overrated as Chaisson is thats how underrated Okwara is

  300. Paul Cook says:

As a Hawk’s fan, I’m feeling severely left out and behind. Again. Maybe we have to take a RB just to make a talent splash. Or Ruiz or Wilson.

It’s day two again for us, though I’m starting to think we will select tonight.

  301. Ben Ft. Worth says:

    WOO!!

  302. charlietheunicorn says:

Fells like CEH to Saints here….. some queasy feeling

  303. matt says:

let’s trade down, need more picks and one of them’ gotta be the Canadian Bulldozer.

  304. Volume12 says:

Kenny don’t tip the pick. 😉

  305. DC says:

Are the Colts interested in moving up for Love or will they go all-in with Rivers? Or just wait and see at #34 & #44?

  306. Donovan says:

Kudos to ESPN for their story on Kenneth Murray and his adopted siblings. Very cool piece. I’m now a fan of his.

  307. Zane says:

Miami might be the last obstacle for a chance at Taylor, can’t see NO or MIN taking him

  308. Hawktalker#1 says:

No cow tipping, draft tipping, or any other kind of tipping.

  309. chris says:

    i’m starting to get anxious!

  310. charlietheunicorn says:

DaVon Hamilton might sneak in to first round at this rate.. or Hunt

  311. Still rooting for that trade back to 35 to gain 85 with Detroit.

  312. mishima says:

Let’s get Miami on the phone: 27 for 39 and 70.

  313. rowlandice says:

If Miami wants a RB, they might take one at 26. Otherwise, we may just need to get in front of their pick in R2 to get our choice of RB

  314. Paul Cook says:

Ruiz gone. Getting that musical chairs feeling in a big way now.

  315. CHawk Talker Eric says:

Surprise but strong pick for NO

  316. Tony says:

    damn ruiz gone

  317. Troy says:

Fuck!!! Saints get a center for the next decade, after getting Unger from us!! Fuck!!!

  318. Sea Mode says:

    ❤️️ Ruiz

  319. Paul Cook says:

Big props to Rob about Ruiz.

  320. KD says:

Certainly a potential SEA target, but if one of those targets had to go first, this is the least damaging.

  321. WallaSean says:

someone has to be looking at love or a OT, trade back looking better

  322. Aaron says:

Ruiz gone…NOOOOO!!! He literally went to NO.

  323. TomLPDX says:

The just got a center last year. WTF!

    • Kenny Sloth says:

BPA cant ignore someone like that. There arent as many Cs as other positions groups

  324. jujus says:

I hope we trade with Denver

  325. Kenny Sloth says:

That was a BPA pick. And what a p he is.

  326. Zane says:

Great pick for NO, but I never felt he was a realistic target for us, not enough positional value

  327. Big Mike says:

    aw shit 9ers back in

  328. Hawks4life says:

    SF trades up…. for who

  329. Hawkster says:

Clevaland, the McKinney then SEA trades to GB cause they want Mims

  330. CHawk Talker Eric says:

    Damn these late R1 trades…

  331. Producehawk says:

    Niners are killing me

  332. Paul Cook says:

49ers…back into first round. Is it Aiyuk?

  333. Sea Mode says:

    Rob, here’s the reported plan:

    Albert Breer
    @AlbertBreer
    ·2m

The Saints are taking Michigan C Cesar Ruiz. I’m told the plan is to move last year’s outstanding rookie center, Erik McCoy, over to guard.

Not sexy. But investing in the OL has served New Orleans well.

  334. Frank says:

Wow starting to look like Joshua Jones might make it too the Hawks pick🤯.

  335. Richard aka DesertSeahawk says:

San Francisco trades in front of Seattle. WR

  336. Volume12 says:

    Mims here? Aiyuk?

  337. Scot04 says:

    Brandon Aiyuk?

  338. Kenny Sloth says:

    NONOONONONONONO PLZ NOT JOTAY

  339. Sea Mode says:

    Adam Schefter
    @AdamSchefter
    ·31s

Niners traded picks 31, 117, 176 to Minnesota for 25, per source.

  340. Coleslaw says:

Wow, 117 and I believe a 6th to go from 31 to 25? Seattle really might pick at 27. If you’re getting a mid 4th to go to 40 why would you trade down?

  341. Volume12 says:

    9ers are killing it. 🤷‍♂️

  342. Cameron says:

    Please please please not Aiyuk.

  343. That’s fine for the Niners. They still dont have any picks forever now.

  344. Paul Cook says:

They did that just to eff us. I’m getting pissed now. Our rivals are getting talent I like.

    • Scottie says:

You think SF made a pick just to upset Seahawks fans? Come on, do better. Step back off the ledge.

Why is it every year people get “upset” cause other teams draft players “they” like? The Hawks don’t get 300 picks… they can’t draft every player. Other teams are allowed to draft good talent.

  345. Hawkster says:

    ooops, SF, ouch

  346. Scot04 says:

My favorite receiver gone. What makes it worse is he goes to th 49rs

  347. chris says:

at least there was a trade.

  348. Aaron says:

49ers get another WR in Aiyuk…F&@#!!!

  349. Volume12 says:

Phins would be smart to add a RB here.

  350. Matt says:

    Dolphins go Taylor??

  351. Catharsis50 says:

Niners with two great picks. They’re going to be good again.

  352. DC says:

It’s not taking much draft capitol to move it this year. Might not get much return trading down.

If we stay at #27, our trend would be to take big boi Wilson.

  353. Ashish says:

Only possible trade is with Greenbay like Rob had in his last mock

  354. Paul Cook says:

Rob was right…WR started slow in the first round, but man did they come on with a vengeance.

  355. charlietheunicorn says:

Seattle might very well go skill position now… RB or dare I say WR.. if they do not trade back from 27…. hold your water everyone…. wild ride time!

  356. Kenny Sloth says:

Brandon AiYAC going to the most dangerous blocking scheme in the NFL

    Dynamic pick.

  357. Schism says:

The PFN simulator got me way too excited, there I was thinking Aiyuk would be available at 59 lol

  358. KD says:

I don’t see what SF had done today as much more than two lateral moves. Lost 2 players and replaced them at the same position. Granted, I think those are good picks, and freed up some salary with extended contracts, but these are lateral moves nevertheless until those freed up resources are put to use.

    • Sea Mode says:

When those “lateral” moves are replacing an all-pro DT and a productive veteran WR with cheap rookies with similar upside, all using basically the picks they got in return for trading them, they win.

  359. chris says:

get ready for a seahawks twitter meltdown!

  360. Sea Mode says:

    Lance Zierlein
    @LanceZierlein
    ·29s

Brandon Aiyuk is the ultimate YAC-daddy in this draft.

Another Deebo, but longer and possibly even faster, on the opposite side. I think I’m gonna be sick.

Props to John Lynch. He’s absolutely killed it with both trades and drafting since he’s come in.

  361. Big Mike says:

if phins dont take him, CEH makes sense in that he would fulfill the role they envisioned for a healthy Prosise

  362. Volume12 says:

Seattle could go in any direction here. If they stand pat.

Have their pick of the litter at RB, only 2 EDGEs gone, some good O-lineman left, Mims is there.

  363. rowlandice says:

GB will want to jump in front of BAL for Queen. Our usual trade partner.

  364. Coleslaw says:

With the lack of value for trade downs so far, I’m hoping for Isaiah Wilson or Ezra Cleveland. Or Jonathan Taylor.

  365. chris says:

    is Miami trying to trade?

  366. brad linn says:

Just awaiting the ‘Seahawks are on the clock’ commercial break! lol

  367. DC says:

Dang Rob, we might get your boy Isaiah Wilson. You definitely called his name well before anyone. I’d be stoked to add him. ANY RB can run behind him.

  368. Kenny Sloth says:

Lord Please give us a back to own the future

  369. You would think they go Swift here?

  370. Paul Cook says:

The 49ers are just clearly better than us now, especially in the front office and coaching. They’re getting better, and we’re not as much. If it wasn’t for RW, I’d be deflated now.

  371. charlietheunicorn says:

    Dolphins must be after RB

  372. HOUSE says:

With the 27th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select…

  373. KD says:

If MIA does not take I.Wilson here, I predict Wilson to SEA

  374. jopa726 says:

    Miami on the clock.

  375. Scot04 says:

    Miami made our trade

  376. Damn it, that’s our trade.

  377. MoBo says:

    Dang. GB trade with Miami

  378. Magmatizer says:

Oh snap, GB traded up with MIA.

  379. Coleslaw says:

Packers trade up. Watch them go I. Wilson to replace Bulaga…

  380. Ashish says:

Go figure, there goes our trusted trade partner. We are selecting today?

  381. chris says:

crap, packers traded ahead of us!

  382. Andrew Monusko says:

GB makes the deal with Miami.

  383. chris says:

with the draft the niners have had we can’t afford to miss on this draft.

  384. Volume12 says:

    WTF?!?

  385. Kenny Sloth says:

They were about to take Swift if Green Bay didnt move in.

They want our RB they want to keep him in Wisconsin.

  386. Albert Butler says:

I suppose with Cesar Ruiz and Erik McCoy, you could line up with a George Fant sytyle six man line and when you break the huddle you could never be certain who was snapping the ball.

  387. jopa726 says:

    Wow!

  388. Scot04 says:

That hurt our trade value alot

  389. Wow on Jordan to the Packers.

  390. Big Mike says:

oh my, Erin gonna be PISSED

  391. WallaSean says:

looks like the pack wouldn’t deal, we must like their guy

  392. Paul Cook says:

Am I going to need shots after this pick?

  393. Donny Henson says:

Aaron is going to be pissed…

  394. Eburgz says:

Gimme Taylor, Wilson, Gross Matos, Uche, Claypool if we can’t trade back

  395. Volume12 says:

Same situation Favre found himself in.

    Shocked.

  396. Justin Mullikin says:

How the tables have turned Aaron…

    • KD says:

Hedging for the future. Nothing wrong with that,

      • Justin Mullikin says:

Some of my family are GB fans and they have mixed feelings on the end of Farve and the beginning of Rodgers. It just is very interesting he finds himself in the opposite position late in his career.

  397. KD says:

    AND
    HERE
    WE
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    GO!

  398. DC says:

    Sweet!!!

  399. Sea Mode says:

    Wow!

  400. Zane says:

Damn! Convinced it would be Wilson

  401. chris says:

wow! we lucked out on that if we are keeping our pick. if we wanted to trade it sucks because a qb is off the board.

  402. bv eburg says:

    SF
Trading up for Super Bowl difference makers.

  403. CHawk Talker Eric says:

Another trade goes by. We on the clock.

    I’m all over Taylor here

  404. Kenny Sloth says:

    STUNNER

I heard Jo- and was sure they took the back from Wisconsin

  405. Hawks4life says:

wow didn’t see that coming. We on the clock either looking for a trade or talking to J Taylor as I type

  406. Paul Cook says:

Taylor, Wilson, Chase, or Cleveland??? Or who???

  407. Troy says:

Lol Green Bay jumped us to take…Jordan Love…they could have waited to our pick, seems like the jumped the gun on that

  408. Ben Ft. Worth says:

Unless!!!!! We already have a better deal in place than the Packers were offering.

  409. chris says:

if we were gonna pick our guy we would have done it already. we are trying to trade

  410. Volume12 says:

Wouldn’t hate Antoine Winfield, jr here. I’m just sayin’.

  411. jopa726 says:

Jonathan Taylor! Jonathan! Jonathan! Come on Hawks..make Mel Kiper’s head explode.

  412. charlietheunicorn says:

    Sexy Time!

  413. KD says:

THIS IS WHY I HAVE BEEN DRINKING BEER ALL NIGHT

  414. Kenny Sloth says:

    you CAN choose ur team

  415. charlietheunicorn says:

Damn, that is some wild hair on the reporter gal… jesus.. get a comb

  416. Coleslaw says:

Fingers crossed for Cleveland unless we actually get a 3rd to trade down.

  417. chris says:

    we trading!

  418. Sea Mode says:

Clock running down. Are we trying desperately to trade down?

  419. Seahawks using all the clock.

  420. Hawks4life says:

    THE PICK IS IN…….

  421. Ashish says:

    Pick is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Taylor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  422. WallaSean says:

CEH Taylor or Wilson, otherwise why no Trade back? No Gross My Toast, please.

  423. Magmatizer says:

    No trade down!

  424. Cameron says:

Hopefully Schneider isn’t on mute again.

  425. Tony says:

you know that screwed us outta trading back.

  426. Scot04 says:

    No trade

  427. Hawkdawg says:

    Pick is in!! No trade?!?!

  428. charlietheunicorn says:

    WOOOOOOOOT

  429. SoCal12 says:

I’m really curious who wants to deal with us at this pick.

  430. Big Mike says:

    predicting wilson

  431. KD says:

    PICK IN!!!!!
    PICK IN!!!!!
    PICK IN!!!!!

  432. Sea Mode says:

    PICK IS IN!

    We’re actually picking!

  433. Frank says:

I was wondering if they where trying to jump the Titans for Love. I thought the pack would be in the Hunt for Tua, but wow what a score for the Pack!!

  434. Cameron says:

    THE PICK IS IN!!

  435. charlietheunicorn says:

Watch, they will cut to commercial before the Seahawks pick…. : I

  436. Catharsis50 says:

    LB?

  437. DC says:

    Secretly rooting for Mims…

  438. Dawgma says:

HOLY CRAP, PICKING IN THE FIRST ROUND IS THAT EVEN LEGAL?!?!

  439. Coleslaw says:

    Gut tells me Okwara

  440. Scot04 says:

    Hoping Cleveland

  441. BobbyK says:

    Brooks?

  442. SoCal12 says:

Damn. I wonder if we couldn’t get a good deal or are we rushing to the podium for someone?

  443. Paul Cook says:

    Come on!

  444. charlietheunicorn says:

    They don’t look thrilled

  445. Big Mike says:

    FFS ANNOUNCE THE DAMNED PICK!!

  446. Kenny Sloth says:

    OOPS

  447. Georgia Hawk says:

Woah, did NOT see that coming…

    Brooks?

  448. Hawkcrazy says:

Seattle picks at 27 so no trade. Wow wtf pick

  449. I hate that pick.

  450. Volume12 says:

    OK.

  451. Paul Cook says:

    I need a drink.

  452. Rik says:

    Holy smokes? What?!

  453. chris says:

    they did it again

  454. charlietheunicorn says:

    WTFFFFFFFFFFFF

  455. CHawk Talker Eric says:

    WTF

  456. Matt says:

    Holy cow that’s awful.

  457. MoBo says:

    It is Brooks, LB, wow

  458. Producehawk says:

    Missed that one wow

  459. Scot04 says:

Wasn’t expecting that with pick 27

  460. Sea Mode says:

    Wow. Sorry, Rob

  461. Volume12 says:

Some of ya’ll wanted a LB. Here he is.

  462. Schism says:

    Absolutely speechless

  463. Troy says:

    Brooks…wtf Schneider…jesus

  464. KD says:

Well, at least we can look forward to tomorrow…… :/

  465. bv eburg says:

There’s your super bowl difference maker

  466. TomLPDX says:

HaHa, leave it to John to come out of left field…again!

  467. SoCal12 says:

Who had Brooks in their competition list? You deserve like 12 points.

  468. Rashi says:

What is funny to me is that this just proves that us arm chair Gms do not know what we talking about. The data they have available to them is something we just don’t have.

    • Volume12 says:

Bingo. They always come out of left field. One reason I don’t do mock drafts. They’re impossible to predict.

  469. Cameron says:

    What…. just what…

    My head hurts.

  470. Enjoy your last year Bobby.

  471. charlietheunicorn says:

    Bobby Wagner Replacement

  472. Paul Cook says:

    W. T. F.

  473. DC says:

    Ahhhhhhhhhoooooooo…

  474. Scot04 says:

    Russel gets his difference maker

  475. Volume12 says:

Show of hands. Who had Brooks?

I’m just releived it ain’t a RB. Whew.

  476. mishima says:

    Wow.

  477. charlietheunicorn says:

    Good news,

Rob had him on his board.. in the 4th round

No way this guy was higher rated than some of these other guys… Wilson at OT for example.

    • jopa726 says:

Yes, he did but, to be fair, Lance Zierlein had as a second round selection. His first is spelled Jordyn not Jordan. It is misspelled a few places.

  478. Hawkcrazy says:

Just looking at Rob’s spreadsheet at least he was on the list of linebackers. Of course in the 4th round behind a ton of others.

  479. You wonder where that leaves KJ? Or Barton? He isnt really a SAM.

  480. Paul Cook says:

They’ve got some splaining to do…

  481. Sea Mode says:

    Well, I guess that’s a “sort of” hit for me…? 🤷‍♂️

    Sea Mode says:

Jordyn Brooks getting R1 consideration? (per Ben Standig of The Athletic) I could see it If you need a pure, aggressive, ILB tackling machine, he could be your guy. But doesn’t offer much in coverage, and I’m pretty sure that will knock him into R2-R3 in today’s NFL.

Wow. First LB I am really impressed with what he can do. Similar size to Bobby. If we want speed on defense, take a look at this guy:

I have never before thought that the coach and GM should be fired. Today I am joining that chorus.

  483. Ben Ft. Worth says:

    WHAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!??????

Who the fuck is Jordan Brooks!??????

    Schofield, LB?

    MF@#$%%@#!!!!!!!!!!

  484. dcd2 says:

FFS. Why do we do this every year? Talk me off the ledge Rob. I know nothing about this guy.

    • Volume12 says:

For everyone raving about Isaiah Simmons, they have the same thing with this guy in mind. I’d bet on it.

      • Thomas Wells says:

I respect your opinion a lot v12. Can you expand on that? From my limited knowledge simmons is vastly ahead of brooks in all aspects: level of competition, individual tape, leadership, athleticism, versatility. I would have much rather seen us take a chance on Gay if we were taking a LB. I’m frustrated

        • mike says:

After shouting my “WTF are you thinking!?” and getting that out of my system, I watched some of his tape. He does have some speed. We do have the top DB coach/whisperer. Maybe Carroll plans on coaching him up in coverage skills to be the do everything playmaker. Right now though, he isn’t good in coverage. Not really a pass rush guy. But he can shoot gaps well and has good discipline more often than not.I think this just says our scheme on defense is gonna be different, or we are in for a disappointing season.

  485. Trevor says:

There isn’t no way to justify this pick Amanda say it makes sense or is a good pick. I am disgusted. I thought Collier was an awful pick last year and this pick is even worse. Is JS drunk this off season.

  486. Hawkster says:

If they had traded Wagz two weeks ago for first and a second, then I would like the pick.

  487. SoCal12 says:

You know this makes me wonder about the possibility of a Bobby or KJ trade?

  488. regan says:

Why cant he play the SAM and replace Wright?

  489. Big Mike says:

Why do we pick guys 1/2 to 3/4 of a round early all the time?

    • charlietheunicorn says:

They might have been trying to trade down, but couldn’t get what they wanted.

  490. Ashish says:

What’s wrong with JS/PC with first round????????

  491. KD says:

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Isn’t this just typical!?! Everyone now go to the tape and lets figure this out!

  492. Cameron says:

I tell myself not to do this every year.

But we could have had Wilson. Cleveland. CEH.

I’m so angry. I don’t have any right to be, but I am.

  493. Brooks did have 20 TFL’s last year. He would be a good partner for Bobby if they released KJ. Still not sure what you do with Barton then.

    • Volume12 says:

Same type of reach as Collier and Penny.

      • HawksGal says:

This exactly! My Buddy asked me why I was pissed before our pick, I state no trade partners left and we are about to blow another first round pick with another reach!!! Ugh….

  494. Kingdome1976 says:

Again….who really knows who we will pick with our first pick? Nobody knows…..nobody.

  495. DC says:

That whooosh sound was the entire blog deflating…

Can he contribute less in his rookie year than our recent 1st round picks? That would be challenging.

  496. Paul Cook says:

I’m stunned. I’ve got some investigating to do, but what in the eff do they have in mind for him?

  497. Mike says:

    hahahahha..

like why do we even follow this team..this guy wouldn’t have been available in the 3rd round??

  498. Matt says:

This is comically bad. “Struggles in pass coverage but is a thumper.”

Do Pete and John know it’s 2020? Guy is also 2 years older than Patrick Queen…horrendous.

    • Matt says:

I mean…your LBer should be able to rush the passer or excel in coverage. And we took a run defending LB. This is just hilarious.

  499. DavidM2 says:

JORDYN BROOKS, LB, TEXAS TECH No linebacker in the country has more total QB pressures than Brooks, despite rushing the passer only 86 times this year (26th-most). Brooks leads the country’s linebackers with 34 total pressures, including five sacks, four QB hits and 25 more hurries, while he’s also second in the country with 48 total defensive stops. Brooks has allowed just 81 yards in coverage on his 199 snaps in which he’s dropped back, and he’s recorded 39 stops (third) in run defense, proving to be a complete, three-down linebacker in contention for top linebacker in the country by year’s end.
An every-down threat for the Red Raiders, Brooks finished the year as the country’s fifth-highest graded linebacker after earning impressive grades across the board. He was dominant against the run and strong in coverage, but when he did blitz the passer, there was almost no one better at the position. Brooks finished the season with 44 total QB pressures, tying for the national lead with Chris Orr, but Brooks needed 16 fewer pass-rushes to do so. Rounding out his incredible season was his sure tackling and reliable coverage; he missed just 12 of his 121 total attempts on the year and didn’t allow a touchdown or a pass reception longer than 32 into his primary coverage.

    Per PFF

    • Bob Johnston says:

Thanks – I needed this. (not sarcasm, I really needed this).

    • mike says:

Well, that is at least interesting and maybe a bright take. We need that lol.Of course Penny was the highest yards after contact RB of his class. Kinda masked the fact he was running through holes big enough to drive a bus through and was breaking through desperate dives from defenders that had no chance of tackling him. Penny aint terrible, but he also wasn’t he best value for that time. I think Brooks is the same. Not bad, but not the best available. And not even a Collier pick where we pick based on biggest need. this isn’t the biggest need or the best available…leaving just a desperate hope that we are all painfully uninformed over the future and plans of the seahawks.

  500. Sea Mode says:

    Jim Nagy

Seattle just took a guy that reminded me of Bobby Wagner when I watched him. Jordyn Brooks was one of the funnest players we watched this year for the
    @seniorbowl
    .

  501. MaxC14 says:

He is a player who probably won’t start right away because of Wagner, they didn’t trade back and only have 6 more picks, and wasn’t even the biggest need, plus resigning Wright, extending Wagner, and trading up for Barton, and he probably still would have been there a round later. What are we doing?!

  502. charlietheunicorn says:

Local Seattle Sports Radio will be lit tomorrow

  503. Rob Staton says:

    I don’t get it.

    I really don’t get it.

Queen & Gay… they’re fast too. They don’t have an injury history. They’re…. better.

    • Henry Taylor says:

Gay is the one I’m really stunned they didnt take if they were gonna go this way. Seattle’s odd offseason gets even weirder.

    • charlietheunicorn says:

This is not helpful Rob. You are the voice of reason. ;D

    • Matt says:

They don’t have a coherent plan on fixing this team. There literally is no plan…and if this is a plan – it’s a God awful one.

    • Kingdome1976 says:

      Finally an admission of ignorance.

      • Kenny Sloth says:

        🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑🗑

    • Zane says:

Brooks’ tape is miles better than Gay’s

    • WallaSean says:

i like the idea of a hybrid or fast lb, I liked both of those guys as well, or even Chinn or Duggar, just don’t get it, they could have traded back to 60 wtf

    • David Ashton says:

Respectfully hope you’re wrong. Would never have thought it’d have been a linebacker but let’s hope better than Queen. Easy benchmark.

    • Luca Brasi says:

Have to assume they couldn’t get a trade, explaining the pick at 27. Two potential partners came up to higher spots, so probably they were SOL. As to the plater, they decided they like Brooks over the others (let’s hope it’s more than grit), maybe for his long term role. And maybe the competitive strategy is to cut KJ to raise EDGE money. After another year or two he replaces Bobby in the middle. I can’t figure anything else that really makes sense. True enough they were very soft against the run, and I thought slow in the LB corps. Hopefully this guy plays super fast, smart and violent.

  504. William C says:

Lol Patrick Queen going one pick after Brooks is like Okereke going one pick after Barton fml

    • Volume12 says:

Don’t remind me. I had people on here telling me Barton would be a better pro than Okereke. I would pound the table for Okereke.

      • William C says:

Yup, my dad was a Ute so I asked about Barton when we drafted him, he was like “who?”

    • Davido says:

It’s purely a matter of fit there. Brooks is much more of a Seahawk LB than Queen is.

      • mishima says:

And Seattle’s idea of a LB is outdated. Queen, Gay, Uche, etc. all better at almost everything Brooks does. LBs that can’t cover are dead to me.

        • Davido says:

You might be right but the Seahawks have seen things differently to the rest of the league for years now. Not saying it’s always correct but who knows?
We also don’t really know if he can cover or not. He just didn’t do it a lot in college. He didn’t allow many yards so far.

          • Matt says:

The roster and team has gotten progressively worse and is bailed out by an elite QB. We need to stop the excuse making for what has become a travesty of roster construction.

        • Kenny Sloth says:

PFF loved Brooks’ coverage bruh. Git gud

  505. Brazilian Hawk says:

Truth be told, our LB corps was underwhelming last season, and wasn’t set to improve.

  506. Paul Cook says:

But even if the guy turns out good, they overpaid in draft capital. How could one think otherwise at this point?

    • dcd2 says:

The problem is valuation. I like Amazon Stock, but I’m not going to pay $5000/share when the going rate is half of that. We seem to do this exact thing every year!

There is a decent chance this dude is there with our #59 pick. There is ZERO chance Taylor or CEH or 2 dozen other guys will be there.

What makes him the guy we couldn’t pass on?

It’s like a guy named Biff convinced John that he’s back from the future with all of the pre-ordained results of a future NFL.

  507. Hawkcrazy says:

Rob I hope you can pull me out of the hole I am in. Simmons to Arizona, Kinlaw and Ayuk to San Fran we draft Brooks with Wilson, Cleveland, Taylor, CEH and others still on the board. I wouldnt have liked Brooks at pick 101. I didnt like Irwin where we drafted him and thought it was a reach but omg this is a reach stretch then reach.

  508. Aaron says:

We didn’t go RB, O line, D line, or even WR??? Is this about replacing KJ after 2020 or trading Bobby? Is this just about replacing Kendricks given his legal status up in the air??? I’m okay with a LB at some point in this draft, but not this early. The puzzling offseason gets more puzzling. Are PC and JS past their prime?

  509. Bluenlime says:

Same reaction we had for collier and penny. Just straight insane. John is soo full of himself and trying to find gems like 2012. Those are 4 straight years of early rounds bursts.

  510. CA says:

Take a deep breath and stop me if you’ve heard this before: PC and JS
got their guy. They don’t care about what your or the “experts” mocks rank them as.

As always, thank you Rob I’ve been a huge fan for years. Excited for the rest of the draft. We’ll see our pass rushers and other holes filled by the end of the weekend.

    • STTBM says:

Like Irvin, Harvin, Carpenter, Collier, Michaels, Mcdowell…how many whiffs does it take before rhey get called out?

      • Hawkdawg says:

Those players were not all whiffs, and the ones that were whiffs were whiffs for different reasons.

I think that the best way to put it is that at the bottom of the first round, our GM/coach get a little too cute sometimes…but I’m not paid the big bucks to evaluate talent, so there’s that.

  511. KD says:

I’m watching the tape right now vs. Baylor. First impression: great gap discpiline

    • KD says:

      very good awareness

    • KD says:

Just watched all of his snaps vs. Baylor and even though he showed some good awareness and gap discipline, he didn’t have much of an impact if any. Watching Oklahoma next, but wtf is going on?

  512. Producehawk says:

Could have had him at 64. Queen, Uche ? LB @ 27? Maybe I am just stupid.

  513. STTBM says:

Hubris. They got cute, like Tim Ruskell. Time will tell, but I think they pulled a major boner. And this isnt the first time…

  514. SebA says:

I’m regretting staying up till 6am for Brooks, I have to say 😂😭

  515. great. Another 25 year old rookie that won’t have an impact for 3 years. I’m sure he has a great personality.

  516. drewdawg11 says:

Was telling my buddy chuck last week that Brooks was a demon on the field and I thought he would go round two. He laughed and said no way… I guess I showed him…? Wow. Mims and Taylor and several
Tackles available. No clue what these guys think anymore.

  517. Joe says:

Man that pick was a reach! Very disappointed. The best rb was still on the board! How about DE?

    • Davido says:

There are still plenty of options with Dobbins, Taylor, Akers and CEH all still on the board. If they really want to get one they can still make it happen!

  518. DC says:

To me feels like Collier 2.0

    • Saxon says:

Why are people so down on Collier? He was an injured rookie who got few snaps. Can we allow our rookies to develop before we right them off at the beginning of their careers?

I still have hope for Collier.

      • Kenny Sloth says:

        Have you met seahawks fans?

      • Matt says:

He was a 24 year old rookie with a limited ceiling as a pass rusher. He was inactive the entire season despite Seattle having one of the worst pass rushes in the league. That is horrendous.

  519. Ukhawk says:

Flummoxed, PCJS continue to genuinely surprise.

  520. Cheese22 says:

We had to be picking for someone else. The fact Baltimore took a LB right after us could mean Baltimore was taking Brooks and somebody wanted to jump ahead of them for Brooks.

    • STTBM says:

Who care? Baltimore has great Defensive coaches, Seattles are a laughingstock. This is wild…cant wait to watch this unfold…

    • Nathan says:

Just heard Brock Huard say, one guy who woulda known what this guy could do was Matt Rhule.

Was coaching in big 12 when he was there.

  521. Volume12 says:

Isaiah Wilson in front of Derrick Henry? Printing $ baby.

  522. Nathan M says:

Is this the first time we get a positive reaction from the bobble heads in the first round? No one calling it a reach.

I think this means we say goodbye to a fan fave veteran…

  523. charlietheunicorn says:

We are going to work on the trenches early and often….

hum, this rings hollow right now. Maybe they got some tricks up their sleeves still.

  524. Tony says:

ok im.trying to get this and starting to wrap.my head around it

Tops in missed tackles last year. Lack of speed on defense. Barton looked awful. So I get it in that sense. Jordyn is a tackling machine. Blazing fast apparently. So I see the fit. Please just hope come November, we’re applauding this. Laughing about how amazing our defense looks.

  525. pdway says:

I’d take a breath. I don’t claim to know college personnel nearly as well as many of you – but we did need more speed at LB. bobby and KJ aren’t the explosive playmakers they once were. and i didn’t see anything from Barton (limited sample size) that made me think he was a difference maker.

    better re-sign clowney though.

  526. CL says:

Wow, just woke up… it’s almost 6 AM here… kinda drunk lol… Guess I gotta go back to sleep.

There were a quadrillion of players I liked, still available.. then they picked Brooks… This gotta be a nightmare lol

  527. Paul Cook says:

OMG. After all this quarantine shyt…after watching all that talent off the board…they serve that pick up for me? Sometimes I think they out think themselves.

  528. Ukhawk says:

Notes: Bad – Trade value a bit shocking this year. Good: Possibly RB isn’t a worry nor DE ??

  529. Big Mike says:

And there’s Tenn taking Wilson. Couldnt we have had him and Brooks in round 2?

  530. Rik says:

I’ve enjoyed this run with the Seahawks, but their draft picks in the first round have been underwhelming for years. I think they’ve lost their way. Draft failure means a slow decline for the team. So many impact players still out there …

    Ugh

  531. Hughz says:

Everyone needs to chill out. Time will tell if this is a good pick.

  532. Jordan says:

Wow… Im shocked. Are we going to let go of Wright?? I do not understand this pick.. They must’ve had him in their tier 1 list of guys…. Maybe we have a deal already with Clowney lol… Just not revealing until after draft is done. idk. Wow. The guy who went to BAL right after was projected to be a better player.

  533. Scotia Seahawk says:

I guess TV didn’t expect he’d go high enough to warrant a home camera.

    • Volume12 says:

That’s the thing though. Seattle DID need more speed startong on the second level. They DID need someone who wouldn’t miss tackles or get pushed around. They DID need a thumper in the most physical division in football. At 27?!? This feels like Collier & Penny all over again.

Can’t wait to hear about what a great STer he is and how some mystery team was gonna pick him if they didn’t.

      • STTBM says:

…and how hes never injured. Cue the injuries and excuses and Ifedi/Penny Entitlement Issues….

  534. Nate says:

So full disclosure this is probably a flaming hot take (with a heavy pinch of salt), but has this offseason been anything but an utter disaster for the Seahawks so far?

We didn’t do anything meaningful to improve the pass rush, we’re in a standoff with our best option in Clowney, and now….we spend a 1st round pick on a ILB reach that doesn’t even really address a weak spot since we already have Wagner.

I would’ve even preferred grabbing Taylor in the first than this….at least the dude is a top-20 talent and we could somewhat justify it with the RB injuries.

Continuing to hold out hope and would love for somebody to talk me off the ledge, but right now I’m increasingly failing to see how this team has improved their Super Bowl aspirations compared to last year. If anything, it seems to have taken a step back due to the weaker pass rush.

    • Matt says:

Complete dumpster fire. They don’t have a coherent plan. It’s really that simple.

      • Eric says:

Sounds like what people said when Bruce Irvin was picked.

        • Matt says:

The plan with Bruce Irvin was that they drafted the most explosive speed rusher in the draft when they needed pass rush help.

Here…they draft a run stuffing LBer with an injury history during a pandemic when they can do medical checks like a normal year.

This is apples to potatoes as a comparison. And Bruce turned out to be a very meh pick – so I’m not sure I’d hang my hat on that one.

          • Eric says:

If a draft is built on first round picks alone, I guess we can give back that Lombardy trophy as well.

Also, I’m pretty sure that was the 2012 draft…and there were a couple other picks that changed the franchise. One pick doesn’t make a team…unless it’s JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf…then yeah…it does.

    • mishima says:

I have not seen a worse pick from anyone on this site for the past 6 months.

  535. chris says:

john and pete have gotten stale on draft day. watching san fran moving around and getting good players while we always pick crap players with our high picks makes me sick.

    • Producehawk says:

I think they just didn’t want the raiders to be the only that had a major reach. I look at the first round and Seattle is the most disappointing by far. Again could have had him much later. I am reading for JS to go to Green Bay.

  536. Albert Butler says:

From the looks of his profile photo, I’m guessing he won the staring contest at the combine. Great solo tackler with lots of tackles for loss. This is a Ken Norton pick. His stare sorta reminds me of Marvin Haggler. Ken Norton’s father broke Muhammed Ali’s jaw once, knocking him out.

    • CD says:

Isn’t the Big 12 kind of crap, not sure I trust their stats. Some real shitty teams in there and short pass/pass happy. A feast for a LB.

  537. Brooks is a great player and I
