NC State’s defensive tackle Alim McNeil is a ‘wow’ talent

October 10th, 2020 | Written by Rob Staton

Alim McNeill is a special player

It’s not often you find players with the size, proportioned body weight and ability to drop the anchor as a nose tackle with the elite athleticism to work openings in the pass rush and move across the line to present attacking opportunities from different positions.

NC State’s Alim McNeil is a rare find.

I watched him against Virginia today and it was an exciting experience. Not just because he managed to tip a pass into the air, catch it himself and then run it back (while breaking a tackle) for an 18-yard touchdown.

He’s listed at 6-2 and 320lbs. You can load him up inside and he can handle blockers to control the running game. Double teams can’t shift him. Against Virginia he dominated with NC State giving up just 63 yards on 26 carries (2.4 YPC) until late in the fourth quarter and the game was over.

That’s not the exciting bit though. You can always find big, powerful nose tackles. It’s the athleticism that goes with it that is exceptional.

I’ve not see many men his size move with the freedom he does. He has a first round athletic profile.

At SPARQ he ran a fantastic 4.96 forty and then, unbelievably, followed it up with a 4.27 short shuttle. To put that into perspective, Joey Bosa ran a 4.21 at his combine. Montez Sweat ran a 4.29. Bradley Chubb ran a 4.41. Malik McDowell ran a 4.53.

Players with his size simply don’t possess his level of agility.

He’s also highly explosive — jumping a 34-inch vertical.

If he gets anywhere near these numbers at the combine — there’s a distinct possibility he will fly up draft boards.

Tony Pauline graded him in round four during the summer but for me he’s destined to go much earlier. He is going to rise when people get to know him.

Watching him today and on tape from other games is a real treat. His ability to shift across the line has to be seen to be believed. He’s like a stunting EDGE. He has complete control of his feet and he uses minimal steps to work to openings and explode into the backfield. When he engages at the LOS he drives defenders deep into the pocket with power. He locks on and finishes. He’ll take a center for a ride and bull rush to the QB.

McNeill has a terrific swim move to break free from initial contact. You can line him up at the five technique to attack the B gap. He’s just too slippery, too quick — yet with the frame of a bulldozing defensive tackle. It catches blockers off guard.

Incredibly he has minimal bad weight. He’s a big dude — but he looks in fantastic shape. There’s amazing definition in his arms and he isn’t carrying a big gut. Dare I say — he almost looks a little bit like Aaron Donald at times. He’s compact, explosive, cat-quick and put-together. He blows up the interior the same way Donald did at Pittsburgh too.

Yet you can also use him on early downs to control the interior running game:

Let me be clear — he isn’t Donald. Nobody is. It’s just very unusual to see a complete defensive tackle with the power, size and control McNeill possesses combined with unique agility.

I’ve not been this excited about a defensive tackle in a long time. If he continues to play like he did today against Virginia and if he tests as well as expected at the combine, I doubt Seattle will have much of a chance at drafting him. Yet he’s amazingly talented and worth keeping an eye on just in case. He could be a big riser over the coming weeks.

Violent, balanced, strong. Great prospect. I cannot help but feel even more negativity towards the Adams trade. That R1 is going to look real nice come April 2021. There’s probably no real chance of us grabbing an interior guy like this in R2 (if we keep it). Seems too good.

  2. clbradley17 says:

He’s on Bruce Feldman’s 2020 Freaks List. Feldman noted that McNeill’s most freakish attribute is “explosive strength.” McNeill makes it four years in a row a Pack defensive lineman was on the list. “Meet the next one, a powerhouse 326-pound former four-star recruit who had 28 tackles, 7.5 TFLs and 5.5 sacks last year,” Feldman wrote. “McNeill, despite his massive size, vertical jumped 32 inches. Don’t be surprised if the junior runs in the 4.9s by the time he’s ready for the NFL Combine. He also benches 445 pounds and squats 640.”

    Texas vs Oklahoma

    Wacky game.

  4. AlaskaHawk says:

The Texas vs Oklahoma game has been something else. Three overtimes. Lots of good plays. I really like the Oklahoma defense through the first three quarters.

    • clbradley17 says:

SEC having some Big 12 tendencies today. Past standout Ds at Florida and LSU giving up 40+ in losses. FL lost 41-38 to Texas A&M on a last FG and LSU lost 45-41 to Missouri when they couldn’t score with a few seconds to go.

26 guys on the injury report. Team has some nagging injuries, bye week coming just in time.

    • clbradley17 says:

I usually like for us to have out bye week at least halfway through the season so we can be fresher for the playoffs. But the last 2 weeks we’ve had so many injuries it will be a relief to break early so Adams, Green and many others can get well.

  6. Gohawks5151 says:

Cool find! In first impression he looks like a quicker, compact Dontari Poe. Hopefully he didn’t fly up the boards like Poe did. I’m interested to see more

  8. Ashish says:

Rob, your upcoming talent article will be difficult to read this coming off-season. Without first, third and six my eyes was searching which round he possibly go.

  9. clbradley17 says:

Saw a little while ago that both the Bears and Chiefs have new cases of Covid today. Need to get a handle on this or the season could be canceled if they keep having to delay or re-schedule games. Heard an idea that although we can’t have a bubble like the NBA, they could try and keep each team quarantined at a hotel for the next 3 months. May be one of the few ways to make sure no one brings it in from family and friends to infect more players and staff.

    • Rob Staton says:

“Need to get a handle on this or the season could be canceled”

I’m going to delete any future comment that says this.

There is absolutely NO WAY the league is going to cancel the season.

The whole world is having to get to grips with the fact we have to live with this disease. People are going to get it. People are going to pass it on. This is life now.

Most people have mild or don’t even have symptoms. They go home, isolate, then return to work.

If one trainer or one practise squad player gets it, we don’t need people coming on here (or anywhere else for that matter) claiming the league is going to be cancelled.

      It isn’t.

This is an industry worth billions. They are managing the unique challenge of this year well. A quarter of the season has been played and so far only ONE game has been postponed until weeks later. That’s it. Players are going to get the virus, they will have to isolate, and other games will be moved or will be in doubt.

      THIS. IS. LIFE. NOW.

The sooner people stop overreacting to every bloody positive test the better.

      • Lewis says:

While some have rolled their eyes at the repeated COVID questions during PC pressers when there are more pressing matters, there was some interesting discussion about this Friday. While it was clear he didn’t want to discuss details, they apparently have a plan for when players have family, etc coming into their “bubble” that can’t be avoided. It sounded like the team is handling getting people tested in those situations. It also sounds as if the team is supplying them with meals to take home so they don’t have to go out to restaurants.

At any rate, this is life, at least for now. Some teams are doing a good job in managing this. Others are not. Hopefully the Seahawks can continue to do well in this area. Don’t want to think about having to play games without Russ orBobby, etc

      • CaptainJack says:

College football at this point is barely paying attention to this. At least most of the country.. (looking at you pac 12)

    • Steve Nelsen says:

Option 1: Delay game to Monday or Tuesday
Option 2: Reschedule game and move bye week
Option 3: Extend season one week. Add extra bye week
Option 4: Team unable to play forfeits game
Option 5: Extend season more than 1 week: reschedule playoffs
Option 6: Not all teams lay 16 games
      ……..,,,,,
      Option 1097: Cancel Season

  10. Trevor says:

I have to really check out this guy now Rob. I can’t remember the last time you seemed so excited about a prospect and knowing how you feel about Donald to even mention him means this kid is definitely worth a look.

  11. clbradley17 says:

Rob or anyone, who’s looking good at RB in case Carson signs a big contract elsewhere next year? Spencer Brown of UAB has the size at 6’0″ and 220, one of the CFB leaders so far this year, but don’t know about if he has the speed or Seahawks/Carson style they like. 2 first picks would probably be DL and DB or LT. Just wondering if there are any good options for day 3, since we could possibly lose Carson and Hyde.

  12. Nick says:

Gang—must watch analysis of the Seahawks secondary. Really, really good insights.

Big takeaway is that Dunbar is very key to this secondary getting better (beyond the pass rush, obviously).

  13. clbradley17 says:

Another Big 12-like SEC game. Alabama just scored again with 3 min. to go, leading Mississippi 56-45 with 14 total TDs in the game.

  14. CaptainJack says:

McNeil seems pretty good, I can see a guy like him sneaking in late round one and at the latest going early to mid round 2. So out of range for where I hope we’ll be picking. And he doesn’t fit either of our two big times offseason needs… 1. Pass rusher who can win one on one matchups off the edge 2. Duane Brown successor

So, interesting prospect and great write up but I don’t see him in a hawks uniform any time soon.

  15. charlietheunicorn says:

    Rob (and all)

Are their any guys you find really fun to watchin for the 2021 draft class? Any position?

  16. Ureka says:

I can only imagine how difficult it will be for you to scout potential Seattle draft choices if we in fact trade our 2nd pick . Not picking until day 3 hard to get excited about any players you may write about knowing we have very little chance of getting them. Perhaps you should try and look for 4-5th rounders with great potential or traits. Anyway thanks for your blog always enjoyable.

  17. Trevor says:

There has not been a lick of defense in the NFL or CFB this year. I know people like offense but this is ridiculous it is like flag football now.

    • Rob Staton says:

      It’s shite.

Whether it’s the weird covid-impacted season or not, the total lack of competent defense isn’t fun to watch.

I found Alabama vs Ole Miss boring. Like watching a game of tennis, waiting to see who couldn’t hold serve.

    • cha says:

The penalties seem more punitive this year as well.

KSU-TCU, Hubert got called for roughing the passer on what should have been the last play of the game. Hubert literally extended his arms and pushed Duggan to the ground AS he was throwing the ball! No helmet to helmet contact, nothing. I wouldn’t even call it a shot, just an honest attempt to affect the QB throw.

But no. Flag, and a targeting review (ruled not targeting thankfully). Gave TCU an untimed down and another shot at the end zone.

      Ridiculous.

    • DC says:

      It benefits Seattle though 😉

    • Volume12 says:

There’s a big difference between teams scoring points because they’re making good throws or beating coverages. What we’re seeing ain’t that though. Real lack of the basics, like fundamentals. Everyone also wants to make the big play instead of assignment sound.

  18. Rob Staton says:

Was never a fan of Dwayne Haskins. Thought he was massively overrated in the draft. A product of Ohio State’s relentless ability to churn out production at QB in their system.

But this? This should put off every team: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/10/11/reports-dwayne-haskins-home-with-stomach-virus-sunday/

    How convenient. A ‘stomach bug’.

You can’t take your bat and ball home when you get benched. You can’t have a sulk and refuse to go to work.

Why would anyone trade for him?

    Rubbish.

  19. Happy Hawk says:

The list of NFL teams that will be the highest over the cap in 2021:
    1. Saints- $82.8M
    2. Eagles- $72.6M
    3. Falcons- $37.5M
    4. Steelers- $28.3M
    5. Rams- $23.9M
    6. Chiefs- $22.1M
    7. Texans- $14.6M
    8. Vikings- $14.1M
    9. Raiders- $13.3M
    10. Bears- $7.7M

Most likely it will be one of the teams the Hawks might deal with to get some line help at the trade deadline.

    • Lewis says:

Falcons seem most likely. Eagles still have every shot to win their division

      • Rob Staton says:

        People keep saying this.

They still can’t end the league year at MINUS EIGHTY MILLION DOLLARS.

        • clbradley17 says:

SF, Miami and Cleveland were 70-90 mil. under the cap a few years ago. Don’t think I’ve ever seen teams that far over, and the Eagles and Saints are close to or over double the 3rd worst team. Unbelievable. They will almost have to make at least a couple trades by the deadline or lose several good players after the end of the year for nothing.

        • Lewis says:

Can’t they, though? Not saying they should, mind you, but could they not make moves after the new League year starts?

    • SeahawkGenX says:

2021 FA will be glorious for the Hawks, it’s kinda unfair to the rest of the league for being dumb dumbs with their contracts, But hey you just never know & for the Seahawks they are ready.

  20. cha says:

Great opening drive by the Rams. Game plan executed well to nullify the great WFT defensive line.

Those quick passes to the flat were really well done.

  21. Big Mike says:

Falcons down 20-7 to Carolina. How much longer does Quinn last? Jets down 14-3 to AZ. Same question for Gase.

    • clbradley17 says:

The floodgates of firing coaches could open now that the 1st one has gone in Houston. I like seeing the Raiders playing KC tough 24-24 just before halftime if only to know that it can be done.

  22. Trevor says:

This just in Aaron Donald is goooood!

Funny how the lack of holding calls don’t really seem to be affecting him. Schotty and Russ better start planning a scheme to limit his impact like now.

The Rams paid him and Ramsey as the top defensive players at their position and they are playing like it. Time for Bobby to start doing the same thing.

  23. TomLPDX says:

So cool to see Alex Smith back on the field and looking good!

    • cha says:

Third play in Aaron Donald jumps on his back and smith takes him for a two step piggy back ride. I think the leg is ok!

  24. Trevor says:

I know Montez Sweat has a misdiagnosed heart condition at the combine but he was a D.K. Metcalf level freak and would have been a perfect LEO in our scheme. If we had him instead of Collier I would feel a lot better about the DL going forward.

    • Darnell says:

Yeah, they unfortunately missed out on him with the trade down with Green Bay. Though some of that compensation was used to draft DK. The pros and cons of manoeuvring around a draft.

  25. Volume12 says:

Mahomes footwork can be downright atrocious at times.

  26. charlietheunicorn says:

  28. Peppapig says:

    LOL 49ers.

  29. TomLPDX says:

I’m honestly at a loss for words about the Falcons. So much talent and 0-5. I loved DQ when he was here and have rooted for him since he took over at ATL. What happened??

  30. Trevor says:

It is going to be critical tonight with rain expected that the Hawks stop the run on D and establish the run game on O. It will be a great test to see how this team plays when the can’t rely completely on the explosive passing game.

31-24 Hawks with Cousins throwing an INt on the final drive as the Hawks seal the win. Cason has his first 100yd rushing effort.

  31. charlietheunicorn says:

    HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS…. LMFAO

  32. Rob Staton says:

Dan Quinn is going to be fired.

Before anyone demands his return to Seattle — the Falcons’ defense is a disaster under his leadership. The whole team has been awful since the Super Bowl.

He doesn’t get to bring the 2013 LOB & D-line with him.

    • Lewis says:

Yeah, I don’t get the people that think he is going to come back and fix personnel problems.

  33. Gohawks5151 says:

Ryan Kerrigan hasn’t made a big impact since week 1. Didn’t start last game. No stats today. No sacks or qb hits the last few weeks. I know many were pinning hopes on him but is he now worth a 2nd? Is it compounding mistakes of the off-season to pay it anyways. He has seemed nicked up so maybe it’s not all as it seems

  34. charlietheunicorn says:

Dare I say, the Giants look competent today. Freeman running well and Jones making good throws.

  35. charlietheunicorn says:

I was just reading a ESPN article about the Broncos. Long story short, the HC is subtly calling out some o his own guys about practicing during a “unscheduled” bye week. A guy who popped on social media about not liking the routine was Shelby Harris. Perhaps, keep an eye on him as a trade target for Seattle.

Just checked over the cap, he is on a very affordable deal….

  36. charlietheunicorn says:

Tunafish taking it to the 49ers.. ugly game so far.

  37. Trevor says:

SF is worse with Jimmy G. When can they get out of that mega deal they gave him.

    • cha says:

They had an out by April 1 to avoid guaranteeing $15m of his salary.

Remember there was talk they would dump him and go get Brady?

This makes our win look even better, right? They hung tight against the pats and bills, manhandled the jags, and destroyed the 49ers

          • Rob Staton says:

            Not really.

Teams fluctuate week-to-week. It’s why the term ‘any given Sunday’ exists.

I always said last week would be a tough game and didn’t constitute it to be a ‘trap game’ like others suggested. It was a solid win last week and it’s a solid win now.

  41. Big Mike says:

Refs just literally handed the 9ers a TD with a total shit roughing the passer call that kept their drive alive. Must’ve got a call from NY telling them to get SF back in the game for ratings purposes

  55. charlietheunicorn says:

      • Trevor says:

It is embarrassing. Pete must feel like throwing up. It is really hard to watch because there is nothing on the defensive side to even have hope about.

        No pass rush

        Bad LB play

        Poor coverage in the secondary.

Just tells you how good Russ and the offense + special teams has been
Because her is no way this defense should be 4-0.

  57. CaptainJack says:

    Ryan Neal getting worked early

  58. Trevor says:

The lack of pass rush really shows on 3rd down. That is why our 3rd down defense has been god awful for 2-3 years now. Just abysmal in getting off the field. Already 3-4 could conversions on this opening drive.

Wagner has to pick it up he has not been good this year IMO.

  59. cha says:

Barton blocked right out of Cooks’ way.

  60. CaptainJack says:

Not a great start, the pass rush was soft, coverage was slow

  61. Denver Hawker says:

Bobby is off, not good. He’s slow to react, off a step in speed, and getting blocked out on that TD.

    • Trevor says:

He has not been good since he signed his deal. They let Clark walk to give him a record deal and he certainly had not played at that level IMO.

  62. Ishmael says:

Just a bit lol at Cody Barton, he’s so clearly not up to it. Not his fault that he’s not good enough, or that he got drafted where he did, sure he’s a great guy, but the Seahawks have to realise at this point that it’s not going to happen.

  63. cha says:

  71. Kyle R says:

You need to run a play on that third down that sets up at least a reasonable field goal or 4th down attempt.

  72. Rob Staton says:

Get Cody Barton out of the game.

    For crying out loud.

I just sit here every week and cannot fathom how on earth any team — ever — could state pass rush being the priority fix and end up with this D-line.

  76. Trevor says:

Soon teams will realize they can just run on 1st and 2nd down then if they don’t convert they can pass on 3rd down with little pressure and just eat up the clock to keep Russ and the offense off the field.

  77. Rob Staton says:

Telling you now — if someone doesn’t slap this team into life we’re going to see New Orleans, Baltimore and Arizona from last season.

That first quarter was a massacre. Men against boys. One team looks amped, sharp, clinical and balanced. The other is slow, chasing shadows, looks like it’d rather be anywhere else and isn’t enjoying the wet and the cold.

  78. Big Mike says:

You all know this is about to be a 99 yd drive, right?

    What is a “pass rush”?

  79. Tony says:

Gonna be “that” type of game. Ugh.

  80. Pran says:

They are always going to go for 4th down and keep Russ off field..is it.

  81. Rob Staton says:

    As I was saying…

Good run defense? A complete mirage.

Dalvin Cook has more runs in two drives than Seattle have faced from running backs in complete games in their first four games.

  82. cha says:

Are they blitzing Neal? Because he’s not good at it.

  83. Matt says:

Sincerely one of the worst defenses I’ve ever seen.

Cody Barton shouldn’t even be on the practice squad.

    • Tony says:

For all our barton hate, he has a couple decent plays tonight. He manuevered well between blocks to stop a screen fora huge play. Also put a good hit on cousins on that sack.

  84. Rowdy says:

Why not just forfeit the game if you guys don’t even want to show any effort

    • Matt says:

It’s like they don’t know that they have a bye next week. Leave it all out there for goodness sake.

  85. Rowdy says:

Weird, trying to get in field goal range from that spot

  86. Aaron says:

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️…this defense is absolutely painful to watch

  87. Tony says:

TOP is ridiculous right now. Brutal start. Offense needs a big drive.

  88. cha says:

17 plays 10:18 of game time, a FG. That’s a winning formula right there.

  89. Shadrey says:

Gee, who could have guessed that the team with the top RB (maybe?) would be using their rushing attack/screens to keep Russ off the field. And yet, it not only looks like the run d can’t stop the run, it looks like they aren’t prepared.

  90. Pran says:

Defense gave up 10yards for a easy FG. Same situation We run right in the middle with a RB bad at doing that and punt… awful performance all around.

  91. Hawkcrazy says:

seattle needs some points on this drive

  92. Rob Staton says:

It’s amazing how Twitter seems to think replacing Ken Norton Jr with the architect of the second worst defense in the league who’s about to get fired will be the cure-all.

    • Gohawks5151 says:

Russell not playing well. Classic rainy Russ

    • Trevor says:

As you said they need some new blood and outside influence on the defensive coaching staff but unless they get some talent it won’t matter who is coaching them.

    • Shadrey Sands says:

You mean replacing Clowney with the equivalent of no one in free agency OR the draft and then losing the player you panic traded for can be easily fixed by hiring one of the worst jinxed coaches???

  93. Rob Staton says:

Offense as hopeless as the defense tonight.

    • Aaron says:

Offense and Defense are unprepared, slow, lethargic, mental errors, bad execution, etc etc etc

      This could get ugly quick…yikes!!!

    • Pran says:

Why swain gave up on that 3rd down instead of fighting for 1st down…did I miss something.

  94. Tony says:

Ugh. This is about to get bad.

  95. Trevor says:

Doesn’t matter how good your offense is if the defense is on the field for 75% of the game because they can’t get a stop.

    • Hawkcrazy says:

Well offense has done zero so far. Play calling has not been good. Not sure if they are late developing plays but Russ has to avoid the sacks and he just isnt. Offense and defense bad so far.

    • Pran says:

At this pace, Zimmer need to beg PC to give his offense some rest

  96. Rowdy says:

But the offense is just as bad

  97. Rob Staton says:

This is also what I’ve been warning against.

It’s OK dicing up the Falcons, Cowboys etc.

When you come up against a serious opponent, who get on you, this is what I thought would happen eventually.

And it will happen against the Rams. And it will happen in the playoffs.

If the offense doesn’t apply scoreboard pressure, this team will struggle like this.

    • Aaron says:

I’m still sticking with my 10-6 prediction, so .500 the rest of the way.

    • Matt says:

I understand we are 4-0…but what confidence do people actually have in Pete Carroll and John Schneider, at this point? I mean, this team is not a serious contender. Everything is way too easy for opposing teams.

I absolutely buy all the RW noise with Florio – why would you want to waste your prime on this?

    • Bmseattle says:

For the 2nd week in a row, Lockett is nowhere to be seen, early in the game.
One advantage we *should* have is our receivers vs their corners.

  98. Max says:

The only reason this defense is bad is no fan noise and ken Norton.no other reason 😂

  99. Denver Hawker says:

Vikes going right at Barton last drive. He made some plays though, credit to him.

  100. Nate says:

Not that they’ve showed much on offense but if they can get things going they have a chance to flip the game here.

  101. Ben Ft. Worth says:

I’ll take Mychael Kendrick back at this point over Barton.

  102. cha says:

Did they just call the exact same screen play after the first one got blown up??

  103. Aaron says:

    Russ is seeing ghosts

  104. Gohawks5151 says:

Like watching the New Orleans game last year

  105. Matt says:

This legitimately feels worse than the Rams game a few years ago – at the least the Rams were an uber-talented team. This is just disgusting.

  106. Trevor says:

He comes the wasted play with a draw or dump off to Homer.

  107. Shadrey says:

How can we reconcile that the same brilliant football minds who put together the amazing roster turnover in 2011 put this roster together?

It was one thing when they were sending out an abysmal offensive line, but this is an entire half of the team that has maybe 3 above replacement level players right now?

Truly one of the most bizarre experiences as a fan.

    • Matt says:

      Honestly…they lucked out.

Found 3 HOFers R3 and later. Since then…they have utterly failed to address dramatic shortcomings on the roster.

  108. Trevor says:

Why can’t Russ play in the rain?

  109. Pran says:

A 1-3 team playing like a 4-0 team and 4-0 team playing like 0-4 team. May be Pete can take a refresher on rebuilding defense from Zimmer.

  110. Rowdy says:

This team already threw in the towel. I fully expect them to give up another score here

  111. Hawks_Gui says:

Man, imagine to play a good team like chiefs baltimore or GB
We are going to be murdered

  112. Big Mike says:

If collinsworth is right, why isn’t schotty running shorter, quick pass routes?

    • Tony says:

Could be russ just holding the ball some. But weve faced 2nd and long and 3rd and very long last 3 drives.

  113. Trevor says:

Dickson was the only player on the Hawks who played well this half.

  114. Bmseattle says:

The Vikings are able to keep 2 safeties deep, and still get pressure rushing with 4.
We’re going to have to adjust our gameplan, cuz the deep routes aren’t gonna be there tonight.

  115. Matt says:

My goodness Russell legit sucks today. Not getting help but his instincts, everything is just off.

  116. CL says:

Nothing better than standing up at 2:20 AM to see a game like this… can we.. just not have a D at all? this is pathetic.

  117. Gohawks5151 says:

Get some easy completions. Slant, hitch, bubbles. All long 3 man routes vs 2 deep. Tight ends are easy money

  118. Pran says:

There goes the #1 offense without a fight

  119. Trevor says:

If Pete gets asked about Covid protocol after this game instead of the defense I might loose it.

    • Bmseattle says:

I hope they ask him about the difficulties of keeping his mask on while trying to communicate.

    • Aaron says:

“Hey Pete, what do you think about the performance of Dickson tonight with the rain and all…real gritty right?”

  120. Rowdy says:

The vikings are literally running a generic offense and the hawks incapable of even just standing in the way

  121. Trevor says:

For all those hoping Russ would get his first MVP a game like this on prime time really hurts.

  122. Pran says:

It looks to me defense is helping Vikes offense conserve time and move quickly to get some points…team effort.

  123. Noah Parker says:

Seems that Russell and Shotty have never seen a Cover 2 defense before. Good lord. I am starting to drink the hard stuff…..

  124. Ben Ft. Worth says:

I feel like I’m watching a count-down timer until the game ends, of some kind of constructed Seahawks torture device.

Of course it has to be raining. Not that it’s affecting us, it just pisses me off even more.

  125. Trevor says:

Rob how dare you spend time dwelling on the Hawks failure to address there self proclaimed weakness (the DL ). I can’t believe you are not just putting your rose coloured glasses on and admiring the quality of this defensive unit.

  126. DC says:

Russ’ worst half ever? 31 yards??? I mean really, MVP Russ’ with 31 yards at the half? Only 6 attempt? What a nightmare.

  127. Noah Parker says:

I say we go in for half time and NOT come back out. FUCK IT. Forfeit.

  128. Bmseattle says:

It feels like a huge victory to be down by only 13.

  129. Volume12 says:

Just need a couple big plays. On Russ to get his guys going/make something happen.

  130. Tony says:

Silver lining…we played an absolute garbage first half and are only down 13. And get ball to start half. Maybe we can start hot. 2nd half adjustments please.

  131. 12th chuck says:

the only highlight of this half outside special teams, we had one 3 and out. first one in a couple of games. pathetic

  132. Trevor says:

Russ clearly struggles in the rain. I am surprised that the Hawks have not tried to come up with a scheme involving more short passing and running. Makes no sense really when even as a fan I can see Russ struggles in these conditions almost every time.

  133. Pran says:

As bad as defense is Offense is utter shit..50 yards, 4 sacks.

Props to defense for not letting this be a blow out in first half.

  134. Trevor says:

Vol12 how about our boy Claypool for Fantasy today!

    • Volume12 says:

He went off today! That was something else. Steelers are just a WR assembly line.

      • Trevor says:

Clemson in CFB and the Steelers in NFL are the WR factories. He is going to be a star once he actually learns to run routes.

  135. Hughz says:

Any chance we kept our real game plan for the second half?

    • Volume12 says:

Everything went right for Minnesota that half. They couldn’t if drawn up it any better. Opposite for Seattle.

      • Volume12 says:

A FG at the end of the half certainly wasn’t ideal, but it was a 2 score game that’s still a 2 score game

  136. Trevor says:

Cook looks almost identical to what Alvin Kamara did to us last year in the wet weather.

  137. Noah Parker says:

    2nd Half:

    1. Get off the field on D
    2. Learn how to play offense

    Simple, really.

  138. Noah Parker says:

oh oh.. 1A… score out of the gate!

  139. Trevor says:

This team usually can make adjustments and you know Russ will battle so the Hawks are far from out of this despite that awful 1st half.

  140. Pran says:

It’s surprising to see just 2 known players Yannick and Kendricks on that D, yet shutting down Hawks like LOB defense.

  141. cha says:

3rd and 22 draw play to Homer. I still can’t believe it.

Get a RW scramble, or a slant to DK for 6 or7 and set up a FG.

Schottenheimer and PC basically said “nah offense, let’s rely our defense.”

    Think on that.

    Think on that.

    That’s insane.

  142. Trevor says:

This first drive in the 2nd half is huge.

  143. Gui_Hawks says:

Adams will be out for 2 games including this one, and he still will be pur sack leader

  144. jopa726 says:

It is not insane. It just dumb. People do dumb stuff all the time. They’re called first marriages.

  145. Rob Staton says:

    Three-and-out.

The Seahawks are getting beaten up.

    Embarrassing.

  146. CaptainJack says:

    Terrible terrible terrible …

  147. Noah Parker says:

Did Russell say that he wanted to be the “best to every play the game”? Hmmmmm…………………….

  148. Bmseattle says:

So… we can’t throw deep… or run the ball.
    Excellent.

  149. Ben Ft. Worth says:

Why are we not just running play-action Russ scramble every damn play????!

  150. Aaron says:

The 2020 Hawks are SOFT…soft as a gelly doughnut. They remind me of many of those Packer teams before McCarthy got fired…just sayin.

  151. Ben Ft. Worth says:

Seriously would not mind some Kaepernick play action magic here.

  152. Tony says:

4-1at the bye isnt the worst. Get a couple guys back and get ready for the big 5 game stretch. That will determine our season.

  153. Ben Ft. Worth says:

    NFL God are reaching down.

  154. Pran says:

Every time there is a call for MVP, Russ lays a giant egg. I would say let him keep chasing the dream always..

  155. AlaskaHawk says:

Team needs a double espresso and a kick in the ass. Come on guys.

  156. Aaron says:

Let me wallow in this moment Tony…haha…*cries

  157. cha says:

    Atlanta Falcons
    @AtlantaFalcons
BREAKING NEWS: General Manager Thomas Dimitroff and Head Coach Dan Quinn have been relieved of their duties, effective immediately.

  158. HawkfaninMT says:

They’ve been down worse than this before. I’m not saying they’ve played well, but I’m not writing this off as a loss just yet.

  159. Hawkcrazy says:

Seahawks are going to come back and win this ugly as it may be

  160. cha says:

Hey look the Seahawks have tight ends!

  161. Lewis says:

I want to punch Collinsworth for suggesting the team got energized because Dalvin got hurt

    • HawkfaninMT says:

Because it’s true? From that play on momentum shifted. It’s a double effect also, he didn’t point out the demoralizing effect losing a star player can have on the team that lost the player. Like it or not, it’s a thing. And it’s his job to pint that sort of thing out.

If it’s simply the optics, I get it a bit. Not quite as bad as Dingy pointing out (then correcting himself) that Daks injury was a blessing in disguise, but it doesn’t sound good.

      • Lewis says:

Yes, momentum shifted, but I don’t believe for a minute the team was excited because an opposing player was injured.

    • Tony says:

Wonder if he said the same for the giants today.

    • CaptainJack says:

It was a trashy comment but may have not been so inaccurate

  162. Ben Ft. Worth says:

    YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  163. Tony says:

Wait! We can do offense things?! Is this allowed???

  164. Volume12 says:

    Nice, quick score

  165. Big Mike says:

Yeah horseshit low blow. Energized by the d getting a 3 and out

  166. Noah Parker says:

OMG I TAKE IT ALL BACK. UNCLE WILL!!!

  167. Volume12 says:

    Samia getting worked

  168. AlaskaHawk says:

Is that Bullards first significant play?

  169. Volume12 says:

    Here we go. Tides turning

  170. Walt says:

    Nice play Bullard

  171. Volume12 says:

    Fumble!

  172. cha says:

If Cousins has lost control of the ball but his arm pushes it forward, that’s a fumble yes?

  173. CaptainJack says:

Bullard- this years Quandre Diggs? Making plays.

  174. Pran says:

Will Falcons trade with out a GM. Who can we get..

  175. Noah Parker says:

    Fumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  176. Volume12 says:

    And just like that fellas.

  177. cha says:

See this is what pass rush gets you guys. Hats off to Damontre Moore for a great play.

    Now go get more help.

  178. AlaskaHawk says:

Why was everyone worried? Ha ha – Seahawks are the Robin Hood of the NFL, stealing wins.

  179. Noah Parker says:

    This is better!

  180. cha says:

    KJ!!!!

THE STICKUM ON THE HANDS WORKED!!

  181. Gohawks5151 says:

    Cut KJ Wright???

  182. Volume12 says:

Finally KJ gets him 1. Dude deserved it

  183. DC says:

So can when Adams comes back, just have him play Barton’s spot and KJ at SAM and keep Neal on the field.

  184. Trevor says:

The injury to Cook was the turning point. Gave the Hawks life and they look like a different team now.

KJ has been our best LB this year not Bobby.

  185. Volume12 says:

What a MF run. My goodness

  186. Trevor says:

I love when Carson runs like that. If he can stay healthy he is an absolute stud.

    • Ben Ft. Worth says:

When I first read this, I thought you said,

“I love when Carson runs like this. If he can stay healthy he can steal you’re soul!! Lmao!

  187. Tony says:

Momentum is totally not a thing lol.

    • Trevor says:

Anyone who has ever played any type of sport at any level knows how huge it is. I am like you I laugh when I hear people say it is not a factor.

Look at this Hawks team since that Cook injury.

  188. CaptainJack says:

Bullard is getting a lot of work. Cool pick up.

  189. cha says:

Rob you didn’t give up and go to bed did you?

  190. Noah Parker says:

Rob!!! I wanna hear something positive!!!

  191. Forrest says:

I’m just laughing at how quickly this has turned around. Momentum shift and a half :’)

  192. Noah Parker says:

I’m sure we will still F it up…

  193. Volume12 says:

    What?!

  194. Trevor says:

Just need a stop here to keep the momentum. I thought that was a good hit by Flowers but they are playing flag football now,

  195. Noah Parker says:

great heat by Neal! saved a TD!!

  196. Volume12 says:

If Neal gets his head around that’s a pick. Still a really good play

  197. Rob Staton says:

That drive emphasised the lack of a difference maker on defense.

They just needed someone to blow things up and get off the field.

    Although Cousins was also exceptional.

  198. Trevor says:

On 3rd down the Cousins locks onto Theilen. Might want to try rotating coverage to him.

  199. Gohawks5151 says:

Collier getting good penetration. If he gets a counter move off of the bull rush he may be OK

  200. Trevor says:

    Why is Homer getting snaps?

  201. Noah Parker says:

Why do we run it to Homer? Seriously, one reason. Im waiting…

  202. Trevor says:

Would never have guessed it but that was Russ’s first incompletion and Moore had a shot at it.

  203. Rob Staton says:

    Punt team is on fire.

I still fear this defense. Need to keep scoring. Can’t stall now.

  204. Noah Parker says:

    MICHEAL BIG DICK FUCKING DICKSON

  205. CaptainJack says:

Man… the Moore drop was killer

  206. cha says:

    Joe Fann
    @Joe_Fann
Quinton Dunbar is headed to the locker room. Staying healthy has always been his biggest issue. He’s already missed two games this season with a knee injury.
    7:29 PM · Oct 11, 2020

  207. Rob Staton says:

For crying out loud the defense is so frustrating

On the two and it’s the easiest conversion to launch another drive.

Get off the field. Come on.

  208. Bmseattle says:

They are wisely picking on Flowers

  209. Trevor says:

Please cover Thielen on 3rd down. Come on man unreal you know that is where Cousins is going. Wtf

  210. Pran says:

    This is going backwards again..

  211. Rob Staton says:

    Too easy again.

  212. Leonardo says:

If you took their names off the jerseys this year, you would absolutely think KJ was the all-pro LB, not Bobby.

  213. Rob Staton says:

    Waste a time out.

    Won’t need that 🤦‍♂️👀

  214. Gohawks5151 says:

Clean up crew Cody. Jumping on the pile late and waiting for the back to run into him. Brooks going to have that job.

  215. Big Mike says:

This defense is utter misery to watch

  216. DC says:

Here we go. Need MVP Russ’ to show up and save the day again.

  217. Rob Staton says:

    This defense 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  218. cha says:

A brilliant game by the punt unit being wasted. A 97 yard drive.

  219. Tony says:

All on the offense now. RW make your claim to mvp by bailing us out every game.

  220. DC says:

Griffin has been getting abused by Thielen.

  221. Volume12 says:

    15 plays, 97 yds. Gross

  222. Pran says:

I don’t have faith in this offense to go distance. All the points came when they were given good starting position. Come on Russ and Schotty. Wasted two drives close to FG range..

  223. DC says:

Half jokingly, Pete should fire himself over how bad this defense is.

  224. Tony says:

That stat of 5 drives of 10+ plays…ugh. definition of a defense not getting off the field.

  225. Leonardo says:

Ken Norton isn’t the best coordinator but I can’t fathom why Seahawks twitter thinks Dan Quinn would solve all our problems, like he can conjure a pass rusher out of thin air. The coach of an 0-5 team with a bad defense is our panacea evidently.

  226. Scot04 says:

Definitely not an MVP play by Wilson

  227. Tony says:

    Ugh game.

  228. DC says:

But man, how about that run defense?!

  229. Scot04 says:

This defense was do to cost us a game. Wilson has to be perfect almost for us to Win

  230. Pran says:

I hate this game. They run the same play hundred times and still get 20 yards. Suck it Pete.. go win on junky Giant jets and Washington to pad up wins, and call it a winning season ..

  231. Big Mike says:

I thought our run d was good

  232. Big Mike says:

The decline of Bobby Wagner is pretty painful to watch

  233. Matt says:

Boy…I won’t be surprised if we are 4-5 after week 10.

  234. Donovan says:

Put Barton on Practice squad. They’re running at him and killing us

  235. AlaskaHawk says:

I fully retract and apologize for previous comments made about the Seahawks great run defense!!!

  236. Leonardo says:

At least we don’t have to hear about how great the run D is anymore, I don’t trust them to stop a run on 3rd and 30.

  237. Trevor says:

You know Cousins is going to target Thielen here on 3rd down. Just double him for gods sakes make someone else beat you.

  238. DC says:

If I’m MN I run it here

  239. Tony says:

Wow, the tackling is literally just letting them fall forward for 5 yards

  240. CaptainJack says:

When you get shut out the first half and can’t stop the run the entire game you’ll lose every single time.

  241. Trevor says:

The Vikes would be crazy not to go for it here and finish off the Hawks

  242. Gohawks5151 says:

I wonder if Ryan Neal can play corner.

  243. DC says:

Just saw Carson only has 8 carries….

  244. Nate says:

Calling it now: Vikes kick a FG, Hawks score too fast and get the 2, lose on a FG at the buzzer 😂

  245. Volume12 says:

    OMG! Here we go.

  246. Gohawks5151 says:

I will hear nothing negative about Bobby! 😉

  247. DC says:

    MVP Russ for redemption

  248. Trevor says:

Wags finally made a big play! Well done

  249. Trevor says:

Would love to see Russ run a ton this drive

  250. Trevor says:

Wtf is Homer doing on the field!

  251. Volume12 says:

    DK!

  252. AlaskaHawk says:

They have to review that end zone play. What sort of reffing bull is this?

  253. Tony says:

Apparently punch out in endzone is cool

  254. Volume12 says:

    Let’s goooooo! DK!

  255. DC says:

    MVP!!!!!! DK is lit!

  256. DC says:

Now don’t get too excited, the D has plenty of time to lose it!

  257. Trevor says:

Wow Russ you are one incredible competitor! Even when not playing well he just battles and never gives up. Just a special competitor.

  258. Trevor says:

Hawks D just needs one play come on man.

  259. Trevor says:

Just one sack come on please.

  260. AlaskaHawk says:

Oh sure – they review this play but not the endzone play. What was the rush before?

  261. Volume12 says:

He was looking for DK every time down the field that drive except for twice. Baby GOAT

    • Trevor says:

He is only going to get better too Vol because he appears to be like Russ in his love of the game and the amount of work he willing to put in.

    • Tony says:

Cause dk is a beast. A if they dont double him, its a mismatch.

  262. cha says:

    MVP
    MVP
    MVP

  263. Tony says:

    Wow. 5-0, ill take it.

  264. Volume12 says:

    What. A. Game!

It’s raining so hard in Seattle & so windy, I’m not sure how Russ was even slinging it tonight.

    • Trevor says:

Just a special competitor that always believes he can do it. Some guys talk the talk but time and time again he walks the walk.

  265. Leonardo says:

I know the “clutch” gene isn’t borne out statistically but what else can explain how this defense is crap for 58 minutes but world beaters at the end of every game? Amazing

  266. AlaskaHawk says:

I was ready to watch the Seahawks batt down a Hail Mary. This ending is just as good!!!! Seahawks pull a win out of the hat!

Seahawks Lose (oh wait) ~ Rob rewriting his article title

    😉

  268. Supra22ssv says:

As much as I hate Barton if not for him we don’t win that game

  269. Trevor says:

The ugliest 5-0 ever but I love it!

  270. Forrest says:

My heart and liver can’t take this kind of damage anymore. They need to use this week off to plug some holes in the defense. I’ll take 5-0 any day of the week though, so go Hawks!!!

    • charlietheunicorn says:

With the offense C game and still pull off a win.

Defense had some low points, but they also had some tremendous plays… KJ Wright was amazing

      • Forrest says:

Sure, I just mean in general, I think guys coming back from injuries will help a lot. The defense looked okay this game (KJ WAS amazing), but still give up way too many chunk plays. The offense was pretty much a C+ today (A+ on a few drives), but that and ST have been carrying this team so far this year (with a few heroic stands from the defense thrown in).

  271. Trevor says:

Heard Nate Burleson say DK would be the best WR in the game in a year or two and I think if he stays healthy that is quite likely with Russ as his QB.

  272. charlietheunicorn says:

    Action green = Undefeated lol

  273. charlietheunicorn says:

Zimmer not going for the FG…… hum that was a tough call late

  274. Trevor says:

The NFL must love the Hawks on Primetime because they have some crazy games.

  275. Noah Parker says:
