Kam will always be a Seahawks legend. I’m happy we got to see a guy who is 6’3 and 220 paired with ET, it’s funny how much single high Kam was able to play given his size, it just gave us so much versatility in terms of our scheme.
That being said, bye Sherm, bye Kam, Avril and Bennett too, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Our rookies and developmental players need their playing time, part of the reason we didn’t draft as many probowlers has to be the lack of experience, it’s hard to get on the field behind legends, it’s even harder to develop your craft when you never get to put the practice to use. I’m happy those guys are gone because it means we get new Seahawks legends. I’m excited to see guys like the Griffin twins and Naz earn more play time. I think Jarran Reed is going to have a breakout year. The hawks are young and fast again we might see some gang tackling and I think this team is primed to surprise everyone

Question for the blog , do we retire #31 as a show of solidarity and gratitude for the All-Time Seahawk that is and forever will be Bam Bam? i would be hard pressed to find another more worthy ring of honor member until #54, #3 (and possibly #29 if JS and PC will PAY THE MAN) decide to hangem up.

As always love seeing new content on this amazing blog and i know i’m not alone when i say you and your team have made this off season something special for all of us. This season cannot come any faster thanks to you! Cheers! and Go Hawks!

    • Lil'stink

Retire his number? Unlikely. That’s reserved for guys who make the HOF. Ring of Honor? Hopefully.

If Kenny Easily can have his number retired and enshrined in the ring of honor….
I’m more than confident that Chancellor will make it there one day.

+100 All i was intending was to say that Kam should be remembered for generations to come and that would be a special way to do so!

Wife was out of town so I went out to eat at one of my regular places. Hostess was getting my spot at the bar ready, next to what looked like Kam doppelganger on the small side. Sat down and low and behold, it was Kam just hunched over. Didn’t say anything. I asked if they liked what they got. He said it was good. I ordered a salad without the cheese. He asked if I was allergic, and I just responded that I didn’t like it. We literally talked for 30 minutes about food and restaurants. It was awesome. As he and his wife were finishing up, he introduced himself, we shook hands and they left. It was pretty cool for me talking food with Kam and his likes/dislikes, and probably cool for him that I didn’t bug him with football nonsense.

Probably corny story, but since the last two articles have been about Kam, thought I would share how chill and down to earth he is.

Was hoping to hear some world cup talk!

Rob, what’s been the best game so far for you?

I can’t forget that Spain Portugal thriller, personally, and Mexico-Germany was really fun to watch

    • Rob Staton

Best game? Still probably Spain vs Portugal. But it’s been the best World Cup in my lifetime.

I said before the tournament I thought there’d be a possible surprise winner. We’re possibly on for that. I just really hope England can take this into the final week.

      • Kenny Sloth

I wasn’t sure if I was overreacting to the games I saw, because it was so entertaining. Hard to miss the US at this point lmao.

      • Kenny Sloth

And let’s be honest; outside of an overrated Colombian side, you’ve had about as favorable a draw as possible.

To my eye I’d say it was dominant stuff against Sweden. And this Croatia team are out of gas after being taken to the wire against thr hosts

Looks like you may have your wish and see one of France or Belgium in the finals. Though I wouldn’t bet on England against either.

        • Rob Staton

There’s no great team in this World Cup. It’s been wide open practically from the start.

And that’s why I think the whole favorable draw thing carries little weight. Spain were in England’s side of the draw too and went out. Germany could’ve been but went out. All the ‘big’ teams that would’ve given England some street cred had they beaten them…. went out to the teams they are now playing.

To me France have had a similar route. Easier group, shambolic Argentina and then Uruguay missing Cavani (and benefitted from the goalkeeper throwing one in his own net).

Wide open tournament. It’d mean everything to us over here if England were to get to the final. I’ll be a nervous wreck come Wednesday.

          • H

            Preach.

          • H

Im hoping for an England France final, so that either way a spurs player can lift the trophy.

Wont stop me being any less distraught if England cant go all the way
            #itscominghome

          • Kenny Sloth

Good point. Ive seen Belgium as a dark horse, but didn’t think France would go this far. Too mutable and inconsistent. I mean. They did literally JUST draw the US in a friendly.

Croatia is super beat up, the way England have performed, professional and clinical especially on set pieces, I could easily see a finals berth. Harry Kane is just putting on a show of fundamentals soccer while leading the golden boot. (I always call him Hurri- kane in my head)

  9. Mark

Kam will always be a Seahawk legend. I’d love to see Pete Carroll give him a role in the coaching staff. I think he’d be a natural.

Game time is at 7am PST tomorrow morning here on the west coast. Gascoigne, Beckham, Owen, Campbell, Gerrard…so many great players who never got to raise the trophy. I’ll be pulling for your boys here stateside. Bring it home. 🙂

  10. VM

Rob, you make an excellent point about the negativity — I’m sick to death of it.

Very happy that you and Kenny will produce these regularly. It’s my favorite football podcast.
(Though I do miss the old theme music that sounded like it was playing on a 70’s portable cassette recorder.)

  11. Bankhawk

Ed, regarding your Kam story above-I really, really rêspect whatever instinct it was that led you to just kind of let him be and give him the space to introduce himself of his own accord. When I was a younger man I worked in situations that placed me around people in show business and saw first hand the way that fan enthusiasm and the lack of privacy in everyday life can take its toll on those with a celebrity status. Your rêspect for his space shows your maturity and your personal dignity, my man!

  12. CharlieTheUnicorn

100 years war upcoming soon (England vs France) in World Cup final?!?!?!

    • Rob Staton

      I’ll take it! 😉

  13. Kendo

There’s been a little bit of chatter about the World Cup but how about a little home town pride for the Seattle Seawolves winning the championship last night in the inaugural Major League Rugby season? I hope to see rugby grow more in this country. I remember being in South Africa in 2010 during the Super 14 season and watched the championship match between the Cape Town Sharks and Pretoria Bulls at the airport. The best cheer I heard was after I put on a Pretoria Bulls jersey I bought for a friend; “THE YANK’S A BULLS FAN!!!” I got plenty of free beers during that match.

    • Georgia Hawk

I dont know what it is about rugby, but the camaraderie is better than any other sport. I play for a local club team and part of why I love it is the socials and general attitude to the other team immediately following violent matches. Doesnt matter that you just spent 80 min beating the dog piss out of each other, at the social everybody is a brother. Fandom is the same way. Doesnt matter what team you root for, watching rugby makes you awesome. If you are a fan of the same team you are automatically a brother.

    https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2018/7/10/17548304/world-cup-women-fans-crowds-tv

A lovely and impassioned piece on some of the “fundamental attitudes behind societal structures that alienate women, sometimes violently, from the beautiful game.”

    • Rob Staton

I think we spend way too much time picking out the flaws in society and not enough time acknowledging we’ve never had more equality, opportunity and understanding.

‘The World cup needs to send a different message to women’

No it doesn’t. Two blokes in their 50’s said some daft things, one bloke tried to kiss a reporter and looked like a plonker in the process. That’s basically it.

Didn’t see a SB Nation article about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D03h8JSgW04

      • Kenny Sloth

Two wrongs dont make a right Rob. Objectification of athletes and fans, men and women is bad no matter who is the subject and who is the perpetrator.

Just because they are using that platform to talk about womens rights and equality doesnt mean they are ignoring mens rights.

Noone is saying the world cup is bad. Noone is saying men aren’t harassed.
But the broadcasters do constantly flash to shots of beautiful women in the stands.

I just think we spend too much time patting ourselves on the back for a society that has a long way to go. It’s a mountaintop that we’ll never reach, but it’s about realizing the constant struggle of getting to a place of actual equality. Not a superficial and quietly vitriolic crucible of misunderstanding.

It’s not just two dudes in their 50’s and one fan.

Some reporters around the world are abused in ways they shouldn’t be. From what I’ve seen.

        • Rob Staton

Sorry Kenny we’ll have to agree to disagree here.

It seems like every day the media is constantly trying to outrage themselves into another societal problem.

It’s an extension of what I discussed briefly recently. EVERYTHING is politicised these days. And it’s draining.

          • Kenny Sloth

You’ll get no argument from me.

It can be really unhealthy to buy into those divisive ideologies. With the speed that ideas are spread today, it’s no wonder they constantly clash.

          • Kenny Sloth

Oh excellent recent pods too. I was grinning wide when I heard the new music. I listen to lots of podcasts and always on fast forward to almost 2x speed, except yours!

            • Rob Staton

              Thanks man 👍🏻

          • Hawk Eye

I have no problem with political views entering into discussions EXCEPT WHEN THEY BELIEVE THEIR SIDE IS ALWAYS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING.
The problem seems to be the extreme positions taken by either right or left (or worse, democrat or republican) that ignore truth and create more problems.
so with the in mind, better to have a haven

      • Kenny Sloth

So funny we always seem to butt on that point. Where you hope to celebrate the growth of humanity while I struggle to be positive about such things

Well I’m from the north of the border and couldn’t be happier. Sorry rob but not sorry. Also betted on Croatia winning the whole thing away back in May so it’s been a win win for me this evening.

          • Kenny Sloth

I can be glad and sorry at the same time hahaha

        • H

Heart broken, but immensly proud of a team that made us believe again.

Croatia are my sweepstake team, so i will begrudgingly be supporting them in the final.

I’m sorry Rob. It was a he’ll of a run

    • Rob Staton

One day maybe they’ll do it.

  18. Georgia Hawk

The end of the England – Craotia match yesterday was a good example of the difference between Sportsmanship and Gamesmanship. After Croatia knocked in the second goal, you saw one of the players (name escapes me) go to ground multiple times, stay on ground for quite a while, and decline all offered help from English players. the goal was prevent England from advancing/attacking while letting the clock run. To me this is the ultimate savvy veteran move, something reminiscent of what Bill B (may 1000 fire ants infest his bed) would have his players do: take advantage of the rules in any way they can. Unfortunately it was also the ultimate d$%* move and horrible sportsmanship, and a very good example of why soccer struggles to gain popularity in the States.

I love watching and playing soccer, but stuff like this makes it almost unbearable even to me. Neymar and his meme inducing flops hurts me in my soul; I refuse to watch Brazil 100% due to him. Mt personal belief is that Soccer needs an “advantage” rule similar to Rugby. Give the players a reason to keep playing and not flop around looking for a call. This rule basically says that in the event that a foul is committed, the aggrieved team can keep playing if they have “advantage” or until they lose it, in the ref’s opinion. If they cannot maintain the advantage, play is stopped and the ball returned to the spot of the foul for a restart. It give the team an incentive to keep playing and not go for the flops. It encourages both gamesmanship AND sportsmanship at the same time.

I think you would see a lot of players suddenly become way tougher and overall play would be much more watchable.

Anyways, just a thought a super dry point of the Seahawks season.

    • Rob Staton

I wish there was a Seahawks game tomorrow to take my mind off last night.

      • Georgia Hawk

Hate that for you brother. Closest I can come to that feeling of this being YOUR year but ultimately suffering the letdown is the Mariners in 2001.

        • Rob Staton

It’s the hope that gets you. That moment you start to think… ‘this might just happen’.

And then it doesn’t. And you’re left crushed.

          • Georgia Hawk

            Absolutely.

Of course in a cruel irony it is also the hope that gets you emotionally invested and makes the victory so much better when it finally comes. Feb 2, 2014 will be a day I remember all my life for that very reason.

            Keep the hope, brother!

          • CestrianHawk

I can empathise with that feeling. As one old enough to have watched our first World Cup win I’ve been able to follow the subsequent ups and downs with equanimity . It’s been my good fortune to have witnessed our first World Cup win and Seattle winning the Superbowl – and I can now die a happy man.

            • UkAlex

Cestrian…..are you from Chester UK by any chance?!

              • CestrianHawk

Yup, a cestrian born and bred as they say. Been to many parts of the US, and the PNW (and Seattle) is my favourite part by far. So I’ve been a Seahawks fan ever since (from the early eighties).

                • UkAlex

I live in Chester too! Moved up from Devon a while back for University. Are you still in the city or stated in one of the great places you have visited?!

            • Rob Staton

I said to my wife the day before the game… if I see England win a World Cup and the Seahawks a Super Bowl, I’ll die happy. I won’t be able to ask for any more in a sporting sense.

Just hope I get to see that World Cup win one day.

    • Kenny Sloth

Who y’all have for the awards?

Pickford and Akinfeev stood out at GK.

Kane should have the scoring title unless Lukaku explodes against them in the 3rd place match.

Best player is either Luka Modric or Kante for me.

Youngster is clearly gonna be Leroy San- ohhh wait.

Better just give it to Mbappe

      • Kenny Sloth

Sane would’ve been too old for the young player award actually*

  19. Roger Davis

Rob: Great days in British history: 1066, 1966, er… Perhaps 2866?

    Hope springs eternal!

    • Rob Staton

      I’d prefer 2022 to 2866 😉

  20. halktalker#1

Everyone happy we didn’t make a move on any of the supplemental draft candidates?

I liked Beal, but not for a 3th round pick.

    • 12th chuck

I think it is still pretty fresh in their minds not to borrow from the future, so I am glad that we didn’t pick anyone up.

  21. Hawktalker#1

Rob – Just curious. Are you having to moderate every post now or are some people’s posts auto-approving and other not? Mine now all seem to be delayed. Thx

    • Rob Staton

I don’t really know what’s going on. I haven’t changed any settings. I’m moderating some posts but not yours. Not sure what the issue is.

      • Hawktalker#1

OK thanks for the reply. I know they used to post immediately. Perhaps we can take some of that crowd funding money someone collected (if they aren’t on an extended vacation with it) and have a WordPress developer take a look? 🙂

  22. Coleslaw

Maybe a limited role is all he needs but I’d like to see Prosise used more as a Dion Lewis or even as more of a wide receiver. He’s really just an offensive weapon. But hes too fragile to be a RB too often, so motion him out wide into 2 back sets instead, or have packages for him. He’d be a much better off staying healthy as a big possession receiver with YAC ability than he is being hurt on a fast track to the CFL

    • Coleslaw

*motion him from out wide into 2 back sets*

  23. Georgia Hawk

Earl came out with the “put up or shut up” post on IG yesterday. I’m firmly on his side on that one. Its time to either extend him or trade him. Dragging it out for no reason other than “we’re the Hawks and we stick to our guns, daggum it!” is a waste of everybody’s time and is doing nothing to help the team.

    • Rob Staton

Here’s the thing though. What if the Seahawks haven’t received any trade offers? Or what if the Cowboys are only offering a fourth or fifth rounder?

Should they just give him away because Earl says so?

That’s the problem with Earl’s message. They’ve been trying to trade him and couldn’t. If they just give him away it sets a precedent for everyone else. Does Frank Clark then hold out and demand to be traded to the Rams for a fifth rounder? Where does it end if you go down this route?

I’m sure Seattle would deal him for a fair trade. But if such an offer doesn’t exist, posts like Earl’s are completely pointless.

      • Gerorgia Hawk

Totally understand the arguments here, Rob…and I don’t disagree at all. His post doesn’t help the situation at all. My thoughts are more pointed towards the overall health of the team going into camp and the season. Kam’s holdout wrecked the first few games of the season and ultimately did nothing. Can the Hawks afford to have that hanging over them again, with arguably a more important player than Kam?

I get that you can’t just say “trade me” and its done just like that. I imagine the Hawks have set the bar pretty high on desired compensation, and rightfully so. I’ve long been in the camp that says Earl has more value on the team than in a trade, even if it is a 1st. Personally, I think Earl is the single most valuable component of the Hawks D, as it has been designed over the last several years. Of course that may change moving forward.

I’m 100% on the extend Earl train, have been since day 1. Generational talent like Earl doesn’t grow on trees and is not readily replaced. I want to him to retire a Hawk and be considered one of the greatest to put on the Blue and Green.

If the Hawks and Earl are THAT far apart on extension talks and there is no way he is going to sign their max allowable offer, then cut the losses. Even a third rounder at this point is better than a lame duck season where Earl likely doesn’t put his body on the line as much knowing he’s playing for the following year in Dallas. We can argue about franchise tags and all that and how we control the next several years of Earl, but chances there are slim.

Yes, the Hawks have the upper hand at the moment. But what is the cost to the team as a whole if they keep prolonging it, knowing there won’t be an amicable solution that keeps him in Seattle?

        • Rob Staton

It’s a legit concern, the long term impact of Seattle playing this out.

But I think any possible short term damage might be more palatable than caving and giving Earl away for peanuts. Frank Clark would have every incentive then to demand a trade too.
