Sunday Seahawks draft notes & trade deadline rumours

Bengals might be sellers, albeit unreasonable sellers

Jason La Canfora is reporting that Cincinnati are more inclined to trade veterans this year, 12 months on from a bizarre approach to their roster rebuild.

Owner Mike Brown is notoriously stubborn and runs his franchise like a local pub. Trying to trade with him can be a nightmare.

Will anything change?

“I think they are more open to it, yeah,” one general manager said. “I’m just not sure how realistic they’re going to be about the value of these players. We’ll see. I know they’re getting calls and there a bunch of players who want out of there ASAP.”

Therein lies the problem. It’s OK being willing to trade. If he’s going to ask for a second round pick for Carlos Dunlap and A.J. Green, the end result will be the same.

“Who knows, man?” another executive said. “Every time we talk to them it feels like a waste of time because they can’t pull the trigger.”

Dunlap in particular is trying to orchestrate a trade. The Bengals should grant him his wish, move on and try to reshape their roster over the next two years. He’d be a good option for the Seahawks for a late round flier — someone with a history of getting sacks and can play early downs in a four-man front.

I’m just not convinced Cincinnati will be reasonable with their asking price.

However, Ian Rapoport says he could be inactive today ahead of a potential move — so this is one to monitor.

The Texans are gearing up for a busy deadline

La Canfora also notes the Texans are gauging the market for Whitney Mercilus and a number of other players, including receivers Will Fuller and Brandin Cooks.

Houston needs two things — more draft picks and cap space. They’re currently without a first or second round pick in 2021 and they’re already $16m over the cap for next season.

However good Deshaun Watson is, that’s not an appealing situation for any prospective GM or Head Coaching candidate.

Having blown the cheap years when Watson was on his rookie deal, they’ll now have to operate with one of the most expensive players in the NFL on their books (not to mention Laremy Tunsil’s record-setting contract too).

While the likelihood of a blockbuster trade is minimal, there seems to be sufficient interest in enough players to facilitate a transaction or two by the deadline.

They’re not going to get a mega-offer in the top two rounds but they can pad out their depth for day three and save salary by making smart moves now.

Mercilus is the most interesting one for Seattle. He’s 30, quick off the edge and could do a job. Yet the market for a somewhat expensive, ageing pass rusher has to be something like a sixth rounder. It’s a salary dump.

I’m not sure the Texans will be willing to make that move. After all — their cap problems for 2021 are not as severe as the Falcons, Eagles or Saints. They also don’t have any reason to ‘tank’ the season. If anything, continuing to lose from a 1-5 position will be infuriating. Imagine if they end up gifting Miami a top-five pick that they use on Penei Sewell for a fraction of the cost of Tunsil? Ouch.

They almost have to find a way to win games to save face.

Minnesota Vikings open to further trades

Reportedly it’s possible Adam Thielen could be dealt. I’m tempted to say if the Seahawks were willing to risk their reputation on failing to sign Antonio Brown, they should be keeping an eye on the receiver market in general.

Thielen is 30 but Brown is 32. He’s a pillar of consistency — one of the savviest receivers in the game. He already has seven touchdowns this season and he has 22 in the last two a bit years.

Do I think he’ll be moved? No. If anything, he’s someone the Vikings should be desperate to keep hold of. It’d probably take a deal even greater than the Yannick Ngakoue trade to make it happen.

It’s also been confirmed that both the Seahawks and Tampa Bay were only willing to offer the veteran minimum to Brown — so they weren’t breaking the bank there.

Forget the cost though. Seattle was willing to take a major, substantial risk on Brown the person — both in terms of potential disruption and reputational damage.

If they really want to add another dynamic weapon to both support and appease the one player dragging this franchise along — they should be seeing what it’d take to get Thielen, Odell Beckham Jr, Will Fuller or any other talented, dynamic receiver.

Forget about Quinnen Williams and Ryan Kerrigan

According to Ian Rapoport:

Though more than a few teams have called inquiring about DT Quinnen Williams, source said it will take much more than the rumored second-round pick for Gang Green to part with him. GM Joe Douglas will consider anything, but for a player as highly regarded as Williams, it’s more of a question of, “How many second rounders?”

I can’t imagine anyone stumping up multiple second rounders.

Rapoport also says Ryan Kerrigan is unlikely to be dealt:

“Though other executives appear curious if Ryan Kerrigan is available, that doesn’t seem likely. Instead, it’s former second-rounder Ryan Anderson who has drawn calls and appears to be available for an edge-needy team.”

Anderson has short arms, ran a 4.78 forty and a 7.73 three-cone so he’s unlikely to be on Seattle’s radar.

Ohio State center stands out

With the Big-10 starting, a lot of focus was understandably on quarterback Justin Fields. However, it was the player snapping him the ball that drew my attention against Nebraska.

Josh Myers is 6-5 and 312lbs and a former four-star recruit. He has an ideal combo of physical power to move players off the line of scrimmage and the athleticism and agility to reach to the second level and handle blocks on the move.

At SPARQ he ran an impressive 5.11 forty and an even more impressive 4.49 short shuttle. Those are terrific numbers for an interior lineman at his size. He had the highest SPARQ score (109.35) among all offensive linemen in 2017.

For me there’s absolute no doubt he has the potential to be a first round selection. He’s everything that teams look for in a high O-line pick — physical, athletic, consistent and with high upside.

Keep him on your radar for the rest of the year. He’s only a junior so might not declare for 2021 but he has the potential to go early in the draft.

Seth Williams deserves more attention

He was on our watch-list for the season but Williams kind of gets lost in the wash. There’s not a lot that’s right at Auburn but their top receiver continues to make an impression.

Williams basically won them the game against Ole Miss with eight catches for 150 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion. He was unstoppable on slants, creating early separation and always offering an easy-out to Bo Nix. He showed great hands and he extends his arms to high-point and catch the ball.

On one slant he darted upfield and hurdled a defender for YAC. On another occasion Nix basically threw a Hail Mary with 3:26 left in the third quarter. Williams boxed-out his man and caught it in double coverage on the goal line. He showed incredible concentration, positioning and finish.

He made an incredible play to win the game with 1:16 left. Trailing by a point he caught a difficult sideline throw. It was aimed at the back shoulder but the defender had reasonable position and Williams had to contort his body and stretch out to catch it. He then avoided a slipping defender and sprinted from half-way for a 58-yard touchdown (before adding the two-point conversion).

Testing will be important for Williams but he just has a natural ability and he looks the part of a NFL receiver.

Other standout players

It feels like we’ve been talking about Wisconsin tight end Jake Ferguson for years. He could finally be delivering on his massive potential. Against Illinois he rebounded from a costly fumble to record seven catches, 72 yards and three touchdowns. He has ideal size, 4.6 speed, he jumped a 35-inch vertical at SPARQ and ran a fantastic 4.15 short shuttle. He has the profile, now he just needs the production. He could easily be a day two pick if he builds on this start.

It was only against Texas State but BYU quarterback Zach Wilson was superb again with four more touchdowns and 287 yards. He continues to be one of the most impressive players in college football and his stock should be rising quickly.

Michigan’s Kwity Paye has outstanding physical potential and he flashed that with two sacks against Minnesota. On one sack he lined up inside despite not being a natural fit there, then swam by the left guard and exploded into the backfield. He had a hand in another by using pure power to drive the left tackle into the backfield, disengage and then compete to the QB. He was on our watch-list for the year and he has a great shot to get into the first round discussion.

Glad you got past your pique re. the Brown postings and got this published, good assessment of the moment and future prospects. There’s been a bit of speculation about trade activity being more active early this week accounting for the Covid time influences. That’s a two edged sword though as the sellers understand it too and will likely reach a bit on value early in the week. It may be that the more realistic deals will still occur closer to the deadline with teams accepting that they’ll have one less game of use of the player.

While I don’t have much confidence that PC/JS are going to do much if anything D line wise, I can’t help but wonder if they should end up getting their butts handed to them tonight might that provide added motivation. We’ll see.

  2. cha

This is part of the issue when you wait until the last minute to address your self-stated priority. The options are few and possibly expensive.

    • Scot04

      Exactly Cha,
That’s why we spent two 1sts and a 3rd on a Safety. But i do hope the do something to address the Pass Rush

  3. Lee

My AB and Ngakoue/Kerrigan dreams smashed….

I wonder why the Seahawks didn’t go all in, and deal the late 2nd rounder for Ngakoue? Wouldn’t he have made the difference< kind of like Frank Clark with the Chiefs last season?

    • Rob Staton

Presumably because they felt like chance of retaining Ngakoue and that would’ve left them with no picks, all for an 11 game rental.

      • cha

        Franchise tag was an option.

        • Chris Alexander

An EXPENSIVE option. If Seattle wasn’t willing to pay Clark or Clowney top dollar, I’d be surprised if they changed that for Ngakoue (or anyone else).

          • cha

Not necessarily. It could be just to retain his rights and recoup some draft capital in trade.

            • Chris Alexander

That’s fair. I was working under the assumption that the tag would be to keep him here.

      • Lee

But they’d have an extra 3rd comp pick in 2022, if they couldn’t re-sign him…

Would be weird without a pick in the first 3 rounds though

        • Rob Staton

Not if you sign replacement players. You won’t get a comp pick.

          • Lee

If it’s anything like this past free agency, i think that 3rd should be safe

            • Lee

unless I’m mistaken how the cancelled comp pick thing works

            • Rob Staton

Actually based on this past free agency it wouldn’t have been.

Irvin, Finney, Mayowa, Shell, Dorsett — I think I’m missing others — they all would’ve cancelled out comp picks.

  4. hawkfanforetenity

If they are thinking about upgrades on offense, and if they considered Brown they obviously are, I wonder if they’d look at Brandon Scherff from Washington. Iupati at LG has had to be managed all season long, and is out again tonight. Upgrading and stabilizing LG would probably have a more significant effect on our offense than upgrading our WR core. We still have to face Donald twice this year, Scherff would hold up better than Simmons would, certainly.

That being said, Scherff is playing on the franchise tag this year, and would want to be paid as the top guard after the season. Washington may also have no interest in moving him, I haven’t seen him demanding to be traded like Dunlap has.

    • cha

I doubt they would. The Hawks have lots of options at LG.

After Iupati, they’ve got Simmons. Then they’ve got Finney (if they feel comfortable elevating Fuller to #2 C) and they might get Haynes back before too long.

    • Rob Staton

I think another WR would be a significant upgrade vs a new left guard to be honest. Especially with the need to score points.

      • GerryG

Agreed. Not sure how easy it would be to slide a new LG mid season into what is a decent unit too.

      • Chris Alexander

Agreed. Seattle currently leads the league in scoring but 4 of their 5 wins have been by 1-score. If the defense doesn’t start getting off the field sooner / more frequently then adding additional weapons on offense is certainly a decent “Plan B” (with Plan A presumably being to add defensive players).

  5. Chris

    Rob,
I’m fairly new to your blog but I was wondering how you choose which college players to write about? Do you pick players/positions that would fill a “need” for the Seahawks? Or just exciting players you feel like talking about?

    • Rob Staton

I just watch games and write about who stands out. Or sometimes I watch a specific player based on a recommendation or review I have read.

      • Chris

Sounds solid to me! Keep ’em coming, they’re definitely a good read.

  6. Gaux Hawks

i know we’re 5-0 but i was relieved this morning when i saw the cards, rams and niners schedules to finish the season… there are going to be some tough losses across the board.

    • Chris Alexander

Yeah, depending on which site you look at, their “remaining Strength of Schedule” varies somewhat, but all 3 of our NFC West brethren are in the Top 5 for toughest remaining schedule. Seattle, meanwhile, is in the bottom 5 or 10.

  7. GerryG

I’m pretty bummed that NFL has seemingly moved on, or forgotten about Josh Gordon. I was never really counting on him, but man his ability to move the chains on those slant plays he made last year (admittedly on very limited target) seems to be something this team could use. As good as the offense is, they are not good on third down.

Dunlap would be a great get, but man, you’re pretty screwed when you’re needing a reasonable deal from the Bengals to salvage the DL issues (facepalm AF).

    • Chris Alexander

I’m wondering if it’s a case of Josh having “slipped” or not done enough to get a “Yes” and maybe the league just doesn’t want / “need” to say “No.”

      • Rob Staton

We also don’t know what the NFL knows.

I suspect there’s more to this than people think.

        • BruceN

Even if he had a relapse, didn’t follow the process and did drugs again (likely pot), that would not be in the same level of what AB has done with multiple accusations of sexual assaults, harassments and lawsuits. One has done harm to himself, the other has allegedly committed multiple felonies and crimes against others. This just doesn’t smell right.

        • GerryG

Probably right, but if that’s the case, fine, just let it be known. I find it annoying the NFL thinks of itself as some top secret clandestine organization.

          • Chris Alexander

I don’t think they’re being secretive; I think they’re simply “protecting Josh’s privacy” (assuming, of course, that there’s a “reason” they haven’t ruled on his reinstatement application and aren’t just “sitting” on it).

    • Tecmo Bowl

Mike Garafolo speculated this morning that Gordon could be back week 10. That would complete a full season suspension, if thats what Goodell wants. It would be cool if Goodell added some or any clarity regarding Gordon. Keeping JG in a holding pattern is a disservice to the hawks and player.

Haha yeah expecting Mike Brown to be a reasonable trade partner is a losing battle. Dunlap would be a nice get though.

    • Uncle Bob

No disagreement on Gordon re; moving the chains and reliable hands. But shouldn’t that be why they took on Olsen? He’s made a career of that sort of thing in addition to the blocking help. Why we haven’t seen more of that is a wonderment to me. Perhaps, if tonight’s game plan, in part, is to keep Murray off the field as much as possible (and “hide” the defense) then we’ll see more of him…………and Carson.

      • GerryG

Yes, I’ve wondered that a lot too

    • Rushless pass

I think if he is reinstated it will be week 10 or 11. That makes it a one year suspension

  8. Chris Alexander

I’m in the camp that would have liked for Seattle to add AB, but the $2.5M (max) he’s getting from the Bucs would definitely have made adding help on the D-line harder than it already is.

Given the current / reported “status” of available players, my vote(s) would be for Dunlap and/or Tak McKinley.

    • Rob Staton

Well the price of AB won’t matter if they don’t add anyone before the deadline.

      • Jordan E

Hopefully they arent done with their roster and do make a trade

      • Chris Alexander

Very, VERY true. At the moment, I’m a little less annoyed about the Hawks opening courting him and then NOT signing him based on what he got from Tampa Bay. But, yeah, if the didn’t sign him and then also DON’T ADD ANYONE ON DEFENSE . . .

It will be super frustrating if that’s what happens. But also sorta “par for the course” given how the entire offseason played out.

        • Rob Staton

He got the veteran minimum with bonuses tied to SB wins and playoff appearances.

I’m not sure why this deal has put you off.

  9. Hoggs41

Who are people rooting for in a trade?

    Kerrigan
    Dunlap
    Fackrell
    McKinley
    Someone Else

  10. Sea Mode

Along with what Tecmo Bowl posted above about Gordon possibly coming back week 10, Garafolo also confirmed that it was RW driving the Seahawks’ interest in Brown, and adds that the team itself may not have been so on board… hmmm…

    https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/1320381642490466315

  11. Sea Mode

Looks like Dunlap will be active:

    Mike Garafolo
    @MikeGarafolo
    ·1h

If #Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap was trying to pull a Costanza by posting the team’s DL rotations yesterday, it didn’t work. At least not today, anyway. He’ll be active vs. the #Browns.

    • Rob Staton

Mike Brown… ‘if he gets a tackle we can ask for a R1’

      • Big Mike

        🙂

    • Lewis

      Dunlap is not inactive.

  12. Jordan E

Great write up here Rob. I really hope the Hawks make a move at DLine or WR. I dont if they could afford it but OBJ has a reasonable contract and wants to get out of Cleveland. Brandin Cooks too but his contract is a bit much for his talent. Thielen would be outright nasty if we got him. Great character guy there too.

Again, our locker room is strong and we should maximize Russ’s ability. We need to support him just as the Chiefs support Mahomes. Mahomes has like 4-5 pro-bowl/all-pro talents to support him. We have 2-3.

I think the DLine market might be too overpriced. Dunlap though would be a great fit. Im not too sure of Mercilus. Havent watched enough tape.

Hopefully Hawks do make some move though. I really hope they have more moves in mind besides practice squad signings.

  13. Rob Staton

    So per Jay Glazer:

    — Russell Wilson had been campaigning to sign Antonio Brown for months
    — The Seahawks ‘thought’ they had a shot to get him but they did not

    Good grief.

    https://twitter.com/PFN365/status/1320404763322798082

    • cha

      yuck

    • AlaskaHawk

Yahoo sports had a long writeup about how AB torched most of his previous connections. The only person he didn’t torch was Tom Brady (and apparently Russell Wilson). He felt that Tom was sympathetic to his issues. In any case, it payed off for AB when he got signed up with Tampa Bay.

    • lil’stink

I guess I don’t see the huge deal here. We were linked to a controversial player and failed to get him. In terms of it being a bad look for the Seahawks no one is going to care in a week.

Just look at that Bruce Arians quote in the tweet from Warren Sharp. When you have a star QB that is either undermining or overriding the front office it isn’t a good look. PCJS should have been more careful about confirming their interest in AB. Wilson should have been smarter about who he publicly pushes the team to sign.

      • Rob Staton

They weren’t ‘linked’. They pursued him.

And just because people won’t care in a week doesn’t mean they shouldn’t.

    • swedenhawk

Rob, how do you think this will effect Wilson’s credibility with his teammates? He’s embarrassed himself badly here. Brown disrespecting him so publicly might cause some damage, imo.

      • Rob Staton

I don’t think it’ll have any negative impact with his team mates.

I think it might cause a little bit of an issue between the team and QB.

      • Lewis

How did Brown disrespect him? If this is about his tweet from January about wanting to play with Brady, that would have been before they worked out together in the preseason. Wilson has plenty to be embarrassed about, but not that.

        • swedenhawk

Wilson put his reputation on the line by publicly supporting Brown and actively recruiting him. For Brown to then sign with the Buccaneers to play with Brady is a slap in Wilson’s face.

          • Lewis

I disagree. It’s a business. Brown made the decision to sign with a QB he had some familiarity with. That’s not a slap in the face. Perhaps Wilson should have made sure what Brown’s intentions were before he stick his neck out for a guy like that. Suggests to me they aren’t all that close, which makes it all the more bizarre Wilson did.

            • swedenhawk

Fair enough. In any case, Wilson showed extremely poor judgment and needs to be held to account. Let’s just hope it doesn’t result in any on-field issues.

  14. CaptainJack

I have a sinking feeling that PCJS will just roll with what they’ve got at this point. Gut feeling.

    • Simo

I tend to agree, unless a sweetheart deal falls into their laps. They are shopping in the bargain bin I’m afraid, and have no intention of trading the R2 pick. So, if they can get a Dunlap or McKinley for a R5 pick or so they might pull the trigger. Any more expensive than that, they will move on IMO.

    • Big Mike

      Agree 100%, sadly.

    • AlaskaHawk

My general feeling is that they already blew their budget with 60 million in free agents and two first round draft picks dealt. Now they are working on the next two years budget.

  15. David Ashton

Could Dunlap be a player that takes us over the edge? Admittedly, the Bengals havent been a team I watch much.

    • CaptainJack

Generally I think Dunlap would be a good acquisition, but you’d have to limit his snaps to keep him fresh. And he’s likely a rental. He could marginally improve the pass rush but I doubt he takes the defense from terrible to even ok.

    • Lewis

If taking the defense from bottom third to middle of the pack qualifies as taking us over the edge, then yes.

    • GerryG

Even K Mack would only make this defense ok. There’s just not enough thump on the DL.

      • Scot04

This is why you don’t spend two 1sts and a 3rd on a safety. He can’t fix a poor pass rush no matter how good he is.

    • JC3

Look, they won’t even pay 6 mils to a pro-bowl DE during the off-season, what make you think they are willing to ditch out another 10 mils plus draft picks for Dunlap?

  16. Pran

Hawks are trying to save whatever picks they have left from 2021. May be a late rounder or player swap..I guess that’s it unless they start chipping in to 2022 draft picks.

They were banking on veteran cuts on the cut down day which didn’t happen..now they are hoping for mid season cuts?

  17. Trevor

So we pass on MOntez Sweat who was not hurt in college then dominated the Senior Bowl and Combine but had a misdiagnosed heart condition to draft Lj Collier.

Then we trade up to draft Darrel Taylor a guy who was hurt his entire college career and could not compete at Senior Bowl or combine.

That makes a ton of sense. Sweat is exactly the type of speed rusher this team badly needs.

Have to wonder about our medical staff considering every rookie class seems to struggle with injuries.

    • cha

Philip Dorsett was a big miss as well.

      • Trevor

Seems like there have been a ton of medical / injury issues particularly with the young players.

        • CaptainJack

Our medical staff has to be one of the worst in the league.

    • Tecmo Bowl

Felt all along that the Hawks should have stuck at #21 and selected the best DE available, which was clearly Sweat. He fit all their physical ideals with good production. Then trade down with pick #27 to fill in the middle round picks. JS saw something else. No idea what it was. Collier has been looking decent this year, but he’ll never have upside any where close to Sweat.

There was also a big cliff of DE (Winovich, Crosby, Nelson)that dried up by the middle of round 4 in that draft. JS traded up to draft Barton. Just brutal.

Trading up for DK has saved that class from a very poor grade.

  18. Gohawks5151

Man, I wonder the price on Will Fuller. He is hurt quite a bit but whoa man would he be filthy with Lock and DK.

Dunlap really is trying to get out. I always heard about the way Brown runs the team and that if a vet really wanted out he and his “family business” style would work to accommodate them. This is a chance to see if that’s true. The price though…

Seth Williams is underrated. He has real skill and carried the load on an OK team. He kind of reminds me of Bryan Edwards last year. Maybe he goes in the same range?

  19. Trevor

I think Russ and Kyler are going to put on a show tonight.

41-38 Hawks as Russ throws for 4 TDS. Murray becomes the first QB to run for 100 + yds / Pass for 300 + yds in a loss.

  20. Big Mike

    Cowpukes tanking for Lawrence?

    Win never to get Trevor.

    • Jordan E

Cowboys could easily bounce back next year and be really good if they got Trevor. That low QB cap hit… plus cedee looking real good. Just need to build that defense with the remaining money

      • Blaine

I feel like I hear this every year..

        • Rob Staton

          Dallas are a mile away.

The famous O-line is no more. The defense is a mess. They have a bloated roster full of players on massive contracts.

They need to reset but probably won’t. And they need to recognise Mike McCarthy is their Jim Mora.

  21. Trevor

Every time I was Montez win with a speed rush around the edge them think about LJ Collier I want to throw up.

  22. Trevor

Rob one of the guys you liked a couple of years ago Tim Settle has looked really good today.

    • CaptainJack

Another big Seahawks miss that this community would have drafted. It’s truly sad how a small group of hobbyists can identify talent far more effectively than professionals who get paid millions to do it.

    • Rob Staton

Yep, Settle has been good for a while.

  23. Sea Mode

Nasty shot on Andy Dalton. Disgraceful.

    • cha

Bostic needs to get suspended for that hit.

  24. Gohawks5151

Strap for in for the end of Pit-Ten. I need the fantasy points Tanne!

    • Gohawks5151

Man, Ole Miss had DK and AJ Brown and did nothing. At every level football is a QB league

  25. charlietheunicorn

    Welp…. good job Titans

  26. charlietheunicorn

    Bengals game has been entertaining

  27. Rob Staton

    Clyde

    Edwards

    Helaire

    • Jordan E

Chiefs actually support their QB.. Russ has to beg for it. Again, so mad with this failure to get AB!! Why did we also not draft a WR in this years amazing WR class!?? All we got Russ was superstar Greg Olsen.

      • Lewis

I’d have loved to have drafted a guy like Claypool (after addressing the DE position in free agency), but acting like Wilson lacks weapons is not a rational take.

        • Rob Staton

I’ll tell you what though — I guarantee Wilson is looking at the Chiefs adding Bell and the Buccs adding Brown and thinking ‘hmmmm’.

        • Jordan E

Not saying he doesn’t have any weapons but they could support him even more. We still need that 3rd option who is dangerous YAC and a possession type of guy. I just think Russ can be even better than what hes been already. He is better than Mahomes in my opinion but doesnt receive the same amount of support.

          • Rob Staton

Mahomes has Hill, Kelce, Watkins, Hardman, CEH and Bell — all expensive or high picks.

Wilson has Metcalf, Lockett, Carson and then a collection of reasonable TE’s and Penny who hasn’t really shown enough to warrant a R1.

Meanwhile Brady has an obscene arsenal of weapons.

It’s not that Wilson doesn’t have any support — it’s just that the guys he will compare his situation to have more. And that will piss him off.

            • Lewis

Fair, but they have tried at least (Penny) and if Dissly hadn’t had two huge injuries it would look that much better, in all likelihood. Of course, they can always do more.

              • Lewis

And it goes back to the Dline too. If they had gotten that done in the off season, maybe they pick up a Claypool or a CEH

                • Rob Staton

But they messed up the D-line and couldn’t.

Which will piss him off too (probably).

Wilson was liking tweets (including one of my own) about skill position players pre-draft.

              • Rob Staton

Ultimately though whether they tried or not won’t matter to Wilson. He wants them to hit on players, not try and hit.

                He wants to win.

Mahomes won last year and TB are doing everything Brady wants to try and win this year.

Wilson could easily be looking at this situation and wondering why the hell Seattle hasn’t done more to support him — especially with the defense but also with an extra weapon.

                • Lewis

You mean spending big $$ on Finney doesn’t appease the guy? 🤣

                  • Rob Staton

I bet anything he has a whatsapp with friends where he takes the piss out of that signing as much as we do.

            • Jordan E

^ THIS!! Especially after that loss.

  28. Sea Mode

  29. UP Hawk

Watching the hot garbage of Dallas makes me wonder if they would turn and trade Everson Griffin. Their team is going nowhere and could use some money for a Prescott extension even though the contract won’t be as large as originally thought.

    • TomLPDX

      That’s a good thought there…

    • UP Hawk

Heck, even Aldon Smith would be an Irvin replacement- not a world beater but a reasonable situational pass rusher option.

      • Lewis

He is a world beater compared to anyone we have. Why on earth would they trade him, though? Griffen makes more sense from that standpoint.

    • Rob Staton

      Go and get him.

      • Lewis

        Hell yeah.

    • Denver Hawker

At this rate, they are in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Prescott who?

      • Rob Staton

I can’t see the Jets winning more than once

  30. Rob Staton

Patriots playing like an absolute joke.

    Bye week for the Niners.

    • AlaskaHawk

Yes – the Patriots defense is making the Niners offense look good! I hoped for more of a game.

      • Rob Staton

The Niners offense is good. Challenges you in so many ways. They lose a whole bunch of players and Shanahan just schemes up ways to make it a total non-factor. They are superb.

Next week they better have an answer for all this outside stuff in the running game. They better have an answer for Kittle. And they better score points.

        • AlaskaHawk

I’m hoping the Seahawks have improved over the bye. They should at least be rested. Should be an interesting comparison between the niners, cardinals and seahawks today.

I agree that the niners offense looks surprisingly strong. And that’s without some of their best players who were injured. Maybe they have better depth than most teams. Of course the Steelers looked strong early in their game and then faded.

          • Rob Staton

            It’s Shanahan as I said.

He’s an offensive genius and one of the best coaches in the league.

            • Rob Staton

I’ll also say this — the Seahawks had no answers for San Fran’s offense in week 17 last season. It’ll be a long game next week if they don’t do a lot better.

              • Gohawks5151

And yet that game was down to the wire. No Clowney, Carson or Penny that game. Division games are a war

                • Rob Staton

It came down to the wire because of Wilson leading a fourth quarter rally.

                  Pure and simple.

              • Lewis

I think it starts with a plan to limit the damage done by Kittle. If you can’t do that at all, it’s going to be a long day.

                • Rob Staton

You’ve both got to set the edge (same vs the Rams) and defend Kittle.

Which is incredibly difficult when you’re always eyeing the outside zone or a sweep.

            • Trevor

Rob couldn’t agree more. Shanahan is to the run game what Andy Reid is the passing game. Others like Payton and McVay and good but Shanahan ans Reid are at a whole other level IMO.

            • Adog

A offensive genius does not blow leads in two superbowls.

              • Rob Staton

                Wrong.

              • Trevor

That is just silly almost like saying great QBs don’t throw interceptions on then 1yd line with a chance to win they Super Bowl.

A lot went into all those instances than the plays the coaches called.

  31. Rob Staton

On Dunlap — Cincy fans are ready to get rid for anything.

I’m starting to wonder if he’ll just be cut.

    • TomLPDX

      Works for me.

    • Gohawks5151

      Yes please

    • TheOtherJordan

What you’re saying Rob is a team will sign Dunlap that wants to improve their pass rush and defense overall while having a sound, strategic plan to manage their roster. So, he’ll be a Raven.

  32. Tony

Watching pats, im thinking the real cam has finally showed up. We saw peak cam week 2, but he hasnt looked good at all since. No touch at all. Not to excuse our terrible defense but this pats team last 2 weeks looks like a bottom 10 team.

On another note, its amazing that edelman has disappeared completely.

    • Lewis

Cam is a tremendous athlete, but he’s overrated as a qb.

    • charlietheunicorn

To be fair, the team has lost multiple practices due to CVOID issues. They have been challenged unlike almost any other team (except Titans) … and to top it off they had large scale roster changes (QB/TE) in the offseason. More or less, it is catching up to them now.

  33. Big Mike

I know the whole let Russ cook thing has been pretty great so far but we saw how well Minnesota controlled the game vs. Seattle when the Hawks tried that approach. I believe in order to beat SF next week, the Hawks need to run the ball a LOT and try to control the clock themselves. Doubt that’s what we’ll see, but the less the 9er offense is on the field the better.

    • Rob Staton

I think there’s only one way for Seattle to play this year — scoreboard pressure.

    • Rusty

imo the biggest factor for Minnesota controlling that game was Seattle opening with 4 straight punts

    • AlaskaHawk

I don’t care whether it is passing, running or a combo of both. They just need to play well and score enough that it makes up for any defensive issues.

  34. Rob Staton

Terry McLaurin — always liked him. Always rated him.

    • TomLPDX

Just seems like he is perpetually injured though. When the dude is healthy he is awesome, but that seems like less than 50% of the time.

    • Gohawks5151

On board with this. I said the same above. And yes he is hurt all the time. But maaaannnn would that guys look good with Lock and DK

    • Volume12

lol, wondered that same thing when I read this piece. He’s perfect for what they do and want.

  37. charlietheunicorn

I putting a big circle around the Cowboys as trade targets…..

You remember that guy, Everson Griffen… go get him for a 6th.

    • Scot04

It would have to be a 2022 6th round pick. No 6th in 21′

      • charlietheunicorn

Hum, Aldon Smith and/or Everson Griffen both would look good in Seattle about now…….

…. I see some comments above about both these guys…. I love you guys…. you are thinking what I’m thinking…. How about them Cowboys!

    • Simo

So how has Griffen been playing this year? Haven’t heard much about him since Dallas’ defense is awful!

      • charlietheunicorn

Around 20 tackles / 1 sack….. but as part of rotation, I’ll take it.

        • charlietheunicorn

They are using him at OLB, which is not really a strong position for him, he should be a 4-3 DE

          • TomLPDX

            You’re kidding! He’s not a LB.

            • charlietheunicorn

There is a reason why DC Mike Nolan might be shown the door very shortly….

              • TomLPDX

                And possibly Mcarthy as well

              • Rob Staton

They should fire the whole staff.

                • charlietheunicorn

I was just watching the big hit on Dalton… and no one came to defend him on his team or rough up Bostic. Completely unacceptable in a team sport. You might be right, time to fire some fools in the coaching staff.

                • Tallyhawk

Until they fire the GM they will continue to be a dumpster fire

                  • Rob Staton

Maybe but for all the crap Jerry gets — look at their drafts.

The ‘GM’ and his son have found a franchise QB in round four and UDFA, they’ve built a fantastic OL, hit on numerous early round picks.

They’ve had that team in a lot of 8-8 situations but they’ve also had 13-3 seasons.

They were too loyal to the last coach and picked the wrong replacement — but the Jones’ get undeserved stick overall IMO. They’ve done things that other teams can only dream of. Grabbing Romo then going to Prescott for the grand total price of a R4 is incredible.

    • pdway

Griffen is a smart target. Cowboys obviously going nowhere, Griffen likely really values a chance to go to a playoff team at this point im his career, and there’s still the Pete/USC connection.

      lets make it happen.

      • charlietheunicorn

There was a ton of speculation prior to the season he was interested in coming to Seattle…. not a huge stretch they also wanted him, but were holding out hope for another player.

    • Trevor

If he can stay healthy I think he should be extended not Griffin.

  48. Gohawks5151

Gotta tap that toe old man!

  49. Rob Staton

Shame that. Really liked that design on the Olsen throw. And we need him and the TE’s to step up. Unfortunate he just couldn’t get that leg down in bounds.

    • Volume12

Thought he had that. Some kind of throw too

  50. Trevor

This offense is unstoppable when teams can’t get pressure on Russ. Chandler Jones being out is a huge bonus for the Hawks.

    • Tony

We dodged a huge bullet there. Chandler has career days vs us.

  51. Rob Staton

Wilson had good pass-pro there. Would like to see the coverage.

  52. Rob Staton

    Tackle him please Bobby.

    What a missed opportunity.

    • Tony

      That miss is huge.

  53. Tony

    You had him! Wrap up!

    • Rob Staton

Wagner has to make that play. $18m.

      • Tony

I hope that number goes down to team friendly in a year.

      • Trevor

Bobby has been just average IMO and not nearly playing to the level of the highest paid mlb in history. He needs to pickup its play.

        • Rob Staton

I haven’t seen enough of the other LB’s in the league to judge if he’s only average.

But for $18m a year you expect elite.

He cost them a TD not wrapping up on the third down missed sack.

          • Trevor

I would argue that he has not even been the best LB on the Hawks.

            • Rob Staton

Well that much is obvious. K.J. Wright has been Seattle’s best LB so far.

  54. Denver Hawker

Love seeing Mone dive from behind to make that tackle.

  55. Rob Staton

    This defense AGAIN.

    My god it’s dreadful.

Wagner whiffs on the sack to get off the field. Then Dunbar never gets his head around and has no idea where the ball is on the TD. Another big, huge stonking play against Seattle’s cornerbacks.

    Just awful.

    • Bmseattle

Both plays we were in position to make a play and failed.

    • Trevor

If you have a chance to sack Murray and end a drive You have to make that play. If not he is so much like Russ in that he will make you pay.

    • Volume12

Why is he playing the receivers hand and not the ball? That’s so incredibly frustrating

      • Volume12

        * hands

        • Rob Staton

Was just thinking as it fell… turn around, turn around, turn around.

          He’s right there.

No idea what he was doing.

  56. CaptainJack

Kyler Murray is insanely fast. Like 4.3 fast. Hard to defend that.

    • Rob Staton

Not when you’re cradling him in the backfield.

      • CaptainJack

Just in general Murray is uniquely dangerous

  57. Trevor

The Hawks Over has been a lock all year. Like the easiest bet on the board at Vegas. I thought 55 was low for this game

    • Matt

True that. I took them at -3.5, betting with emotions again…

  58. Rob Staton

Why is Chris not getting these carries?

    • CaptainJack

Hyde has been garbage this season

    • Trevor

Was just going to ask the same thing.

Nice to see them get the TE involved a little today though.

    • Matt

Trying not to give Carson a reason for the big bucks!

  59. Bmseattle

We gotta start involving Metcalf soon, right?

  60. Trevor

FGs won’t cut it with our Defense.

    • Rob Staton

I don’t want to see Deejay Dallas as a third down target again when you have Metcalf, Lockett, Olsen etc.

  61. Rob Staton

No idea what Nuk was doing there but thank you VERY much.

    Great play by Poona too.

    • Trevor

  62. AlaskaHawk

  63. Noah Parker

    OL is looking really good

  64. Rob Staton

      What is Wilson doing???

      • Bmseattle

He rushed to make that throw?!
        What a huge gaffe!

    • Trevor

Why run him Rob he is only averaging 7 yds per carry?

  65. Henry Taylor

Horrible play, but insane hustle by DK

    • Henry Taylor

Which ends up saving all 7 points, what a play.

    • CaptainJack

  69. CaptainJack

That DK rundown plus the fourth down stop? This team has grit.

  71. Rob Staton

Carson’s got to be hurt, right?

  72. Shadrey

Don’t laugh at me too hard, but I’m surprisingly impressed with this defensive performance so far. This the best half of defense for the season by far right?

Not to give the front office a pass for this clear liability, but wanted to give the players credit for performing!

    • Rob Staton

We have to credit them for the stop and the turnover.

It’s just a shame they can’t cut out the huge, glaring errors.

    • MatiG

I’m able to cheer for them. They play hard, and occasionally make good plays. In some sense it feels like it’s not entirely their fault that they aren’t good enough.

  73. CaptainJack

    Ughhhhhh

    Lewis down. Finney time?

  74. Bmseattle

    • Lewis

Like how they went on and in about the Cardinals stopping us in droves in the red zone that weren’t actually IN the red zone?

  80. Volume12

That block from DK on the TD run was monstrous. Wished more stuff like that was graded & put in the box score

    • Rob Staton

      Should be a BAMF column

    • SoCal12

Honestly I think there’s a case to be made that Russ and DK are our most important players so far this season.

  81. Rowdy

Why is hyde getting carries lol nice run

  82. Tony

Neal looks like a legit player so far. He keeps showing up each week.

  83. Rob Staton

    Dear defense,

If you’re going to give up a score here, do it quickly so the offense has a chance to respond.

Arizona gets the ball to start the second half.

    • Rob Staton

      Dear Rob,

      Duly noted.

      • Lewis

Note if they only did everything you said

    • Trevor

Might get your wish Rob. Wow they are bad.

  84. Bmseattle

  85. Rob Staton

    • Pran

      Horrible…

  86. Tony

    Your 2020 seahawk defense. Ugh

    • Scot04

But Stephan Sullivan might be ready to play DE next week, so we’re good

  87. Gohawks5151

  88. Robbie

What is the heck is Griffen doing

  89. Trevor

Pete must want to throw up after every win watching this defense. This group is unrecognizable as a Pete Carrol defense,

  90. Bmseattle

Someone is going to give Griffin way too much money.

  91. Rob Staton

Nothing is going to fix this defense is it?

They aren’t fixing this with a 31-year-old malcontent DE.

They just blew it in March.

    • Bmseattle

      Nope.
Unfortunately, Wagner is in decline and our corners can’t cover as well as we thought they could.

    DK is fast

  93. Rob Staton

    Wow.

    What a throw.

And what a truly incredible catch.

  94. AlaskaHawk

Lockett’s doing great today!!!! Loving Russell’s rushing also. Lots of good plays going on.

    • AlaskaHawk

133 receiving yards on 8 catches for Lockett.

  95. Rowdy

    Lockett is killing peterson

  96. Rob Staton

Chris Carson hurt then, as we thought.

Man he is so talented, so good — yet always a game away from another injury.

I’m just not sure they can live without him and let him walk. He’s too good.

    • SoCal12

I’m curious how much would you pay him. He’s great but should we spend big money on an RB?

      • Rob Staton

        Not big money.

But I can’t imagine life without him either.

        • SoCal12

The tag is about $10.2mil for RB. Would you pay like $11mil/yr to keep him?

      • Hawks_Gui

Maybe 6 7 million? But i think he would get lots more in FA

  97. Hawks_Gui

    Carson is hurt

  98. Robbie

    That was sexy!

  99. Bmseattle

    43 seconds left.
    Predictions?

    • bootfall

Strip sack recovery TD by Collier.

  100. Trevor

Our offense is so good right now. Luckily they are a little bette than our defense is awful.

  101. Volume12

75 yds in 3 plays! Insane.

Peterson is like, ‘What do I even do? Cant play this any better?’

  102. Rob Staton

    127 rushing yards

    250 passing yards

    27 points

    In a half.

    • Volume12

It’s crazy how fast the game has got this fast hasn’t it Rob? I’m honestly just…IDK what to think.

      • Rob Staton

        The game has definitely changed.

It always adapts and moves and there are trends. Happens in most sports. We’re seeing a big one in the NFL right now.

        • Volume12

True. From that, to the type of athletes were seeing (NBA was my 1st love), it’s amazing, just w/ this particular game here, I’m not sure I was ever gonna see it get like this. Or ready to. Not 100% anyways.

  103. Trevor

377 yds of offense in a half is pretty good right? If teams can’t pressure Russ they have no shot against this group.

    • Tony

*pressure russ with 4 man rush. He is great against blitzing too.

  104. MyChestisBeastMode

Lockett > AB in football and in life.

  105. Scot04

It will be an absolute shame if they don’t make an effort to fix this Pass Rush before the trade deadline. It might not be possible, but they sure need to aquire someone, because it’s definitely ugly.

    • Rob Staton

I just think it’s so bad that you’re not going to get the dynamism they need. They need a game-wrecker to make up for this disaster zone.

  106. Rob Staton

Are they going to give up another long TD here FFS?

    • Tony

I laughing at how bad it is.

  107. Tony

At this point, i think letting russ cook was more about distracting fans from the failed defense. PC was like, russ throw another deep one.

  108. cha

Shaquem is utterly useless as a pass rusher.

    • Rob Staton

      Yep

    • Gohawks5151

Yes. It’s upsetting me he is in

  109. Pran

This defense is so horrible all it needs is 30sec to lose the game.

  110. Rob Staton

“Seahawks’ RB Chris Carson is questionable to return with a foot injury”

    • CaptainJack

Please be a temporary thing. And we need Penny back badly.

      • Tony

Questionable sounds like less severe. I want him available all season please.

  111. Max

I really don’t want to see Shaquem play any more defensive snaps.Nice story.fine special teams player.but he shouldn’t be on the field.i know Moore and Robinson are like D- players, but Shaquem is like F-.just awful.great story though.but I’m over it

    • CaptainJack

He’s so bad. Losing Irvin was really a terrible loss that we didn’t think about as much as we should have.

  112. Shadrey

Watching this game makes it even clearer how the seahawk NEED to go all in tbis season. These receivers are special, this offense is special, and the defense might be fixable!

Rob, is there that much added value by keeping this year’s 2nd and 4th/5th instead of rolling the dice on some d line help?

    • Rob Staton

For the right player I would trade that R2.

However, they have to replace some guys on the cheap next year and they can’t just write-off 2021.

So if they deal that R2 it better be someone really good with club control for at least 2021 if not 2022.

I’m struggling to think of someone who fits the bill.

  113. Tony

1 pass rusher wont make this defense great or good. We all know that here. But I’ll take whelming or meh defense over this pukefest. So trade that 2nd rdr or any late pick for anything resembling decent. Decent pass rusher will still be a ridiculous upgrade.

    • Volume12

I’m gonna disagree. It almost hurts to see how bad this team is screaming out for a pass rusher on 3rd & long.

      • Tony

I think we agree then that we need a pass rusher. Unless youre saying 1 pass rusher makes this d great?

        • Lewis

Don’t need to make them great, just average. They do some things well, but are wildly inconsistent. Some consistent qb pressure, so they don’t have all day to throw, could help prevent some of the huge plays downfield and create even more turnovers.

        • Volume12

Not great, they just need to be good. And I think w/ 1, plus Adams coming back, they become very good.

      • James

I second this. You can juice this entire defense if you give our secondary more freedom to act.

  114. Rob Staton

Tyler Lockett’s face when David Moore came back celebrating there was a picture.

That should’ve been downed at the one-yard-line. Fair catch it please, David.

    • ReconUK

We got away with one there. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. This team needs a lot of that luck.

  115. CaptainJack

Where the hell is DK? Why does he disappear for such long stretches?

    • CaptainJack

Also why is Lockett dropping so many balls?

      • Rob Staton

That was a tough catch, good coverage, risky throw by Wilson.

        • CaptainJack

          Wasn’t just that play

    • Bmseattle

The past 2 games it seemed like it was Lockett who was invisible for long stretches… today it’s DK.
Seems like they should at least throw one of those screens to him so he can run with the ball.

  116. Rob Staton

    Hopkins was wide open there

  117. Rob Staton

    Tackle him come on

  118. Gohawks5151

    Bullshit call

  119. Rob Staton

That’s a TERRIBLE flag on Wagner. Joke.

    • Rob Staton

They’re ruining the game with stuff like that. What the hell are they thinking there???

      • Gohawks5151

        Awful

      • Bmseattle

        Just ridiculous.
You just know they’re gonna score now, too.

    • Volume12

      I…just. 🤷‍♂️

  120. Pran

Bobby sometimes make these dumb plays on 3rd downs…

    • Rob Staton

      He could’ve avoided it.

      But it wasn’t a penalty.

      • James P Kupihea

        “Uhh…I agree with you Chris…”

      • Pran

Still..it’s totally avoidable. You are about to get off field and with the defense you have there is zero threshold…

  121. Robbie

    That was unbelievable

  122. Rob Staton

It’s pretty clear the offense is going to have to keep scoring.

I hope, as the announcers suggested, the Arizona defense hasn’t found something with blitzing and tight man coverage.

  123. Tony

Im done with flowers experiment. Can we try anyone on the PS?

  124. Rob Staton

    My word this defense.

    • Rob Staton

Yes Chris Collinsworth, they need a signature guy. A Jadeveon Clowney guy.

      • CaptainJack

You have been right all offseason Rob. Anyone coming on here to criticize you is a total clown.

        • Rob Staton

          Well, they still do.

  125. Tony

    Preach it chris!

  126. Shadrey

You know you are in rough shape when Collinsworth calls out your problems…

  127. Rob Staton

    Tackling is dreadful.

  128. Pran

    BS tackling…

  129. Rob Staton

So this drive should’ve been a safety but for a missed sack, should’ve been a punt but for the terrible flag and then the defense just melted like it usually does.

They are going to lose a game they have no business losing eventually and it’ll be 100% on the defense.

    • Tony

And itll be a game like this where the offense looks unstoppable and because they cant score 40, they will lose.

  130. Bmseattle

How many 90+ yard drives have we allowed this year so far?

    • James

Then the reality sets in that we can still lose this…quite easily.

  131. Volume12

    3rd and semi-long. smh

    • Volume12

Up 27-17. At halftime. Put it away!

  132. Tony

AZ should thank the refs for the gift wrapped td drive with wagner call.

  133. James Cr.

What happened to Diggs? He has been absolutely awful this year

    • CaptainJack

The lions traded him away for a fifth round pick.

He’s better than Tedric Thompson. But he’s not good.

  134. CaptainJack

Collier is utterly worthless as a pass rusher. John Schneider lost all of his credibility when he drafted him. After passing on Montez Sweat…

  135. Gohawks5151

Let Diggs go. Blair’s job next year

  136. BobbyK

    1st and 20.

    No problem on this defense.

  137. Pran

Ken Norton is awful… when your team is awful in tackling you know who..

    • Rob Staton

      He may well be awful.

But the personnel is equally awful, if not worse.

They had a better defense in 2018 and were nowhere near this bad.

      • CaptainJack

None of the front four guys can get home. Can’t have good defense if you can’t put pressure on the qb.

  138. CaptainJack

This quarter has been crap. Seahawks fell asleep

  139. James

I just don’t understand the inconsistency with calling holding calls…for either side.

  140. Rob Staton

    It’s amazing really.

Seahawks have done so much on offense but one scoreless quarter with this defense and suddenly it’s a three-point game.

  141. Rob Staton

    Come on Russ

    • Rob Staton

      And now waste a timeout.

      *sigh*

I’m starting to worry this is the week.

      • Rob Staton

DK Metcalf — 1 target so far

        • Rob Staton

But two runs to Travis Homer back-to-back

          • CaptainJack

            WHERE IS DK

            • CaptainJack

DK was wide open. Awful placement by Russ.

            • Jordan E

I’ll stop bringing this up because theres no way to change it, but this is why we need an AB. We will only win if we put up points!

Hopefully we make a move at WR this week or DLine. But hopefully some move is made.

  142. Denver Hawker

The defense is bad for sure, but the refs have suddenly ruined this game.

  143. Tony

So wagner gets a dumb pf call, but a legit helmet to helmet goes unnoticed on us. Thanks.

  144. CaptainJack

What an awful throw. After a terrible play call.

    • Rob Staton

      I don’t understand that sequence.

Two runs by Homer and then a stupid interception.

  145. Gohawks5151

    Jeeze Russ

  146. Rob Staton

    Russell FFS

    What is he doing?

Why is ‘letting him cook’ leading to really, really stupid interceptions?

    • DC

A minimum of 6 pts off the board from stupid throws by Russ. Sometimes he has the worst brain farts

  147. Pran

Thats 2 bad red zone picks… 6 points swing at least.. come on Russ..did you see your team defense play!

  148. Tony

Russ wants to pad those 4th quarter comebacks again.

  149. Rowdy

For as good as russ has been today he’s blowing this game

  150. Rob Staton

Offense needed to keep scoring, clearly.

0 points in the second half.

  151. CaptainJack

FFS the Seahawks should just let Arizona score here. We don’t need a long 7 minute to drive from Kyler.

  152. Volume12

Russ! Come on. Keep taking time off the clock.

  153. Rob Staton

    Well, thank you Kyler Murray.

    Do not waste that GIFT.

  154. CaptainJack

    DIGGS

  155. AlaskaHawk

Back to Back interceptions. Diggs was so open I thought he was on the Cardinals team.

  156. Rob Staton

DK still can’t high-point, can he?

    • CaptainJack

He’s been overhyped so far. Not a complete receiver yet.

    • Tony

He shouldve came back, he wouldve caught peterson out of position. Peterson wasnt trying to play the ball.

    • Matt

Yea – that was a God awful throw.

  157. James P Kupihea

    What even are we watching…

  158. Tony

    I miss carson

    • Rob Staton

The offense just doesn’t function as well without him.

      • Volume12

        That’s a great point.

      • Pran

Is Hyde hurt too.. anytime we see Homer on 1st and 2nd down you can assume offense is stinking..

  159. Volume12

    There we go. F**k

  160. AlaskaHawk

When’s the last time this offense scored? First half?

  161. Pran

    Dumb time out..yet again.

We need 7 here ..if you are going to cling on to 3 point lead…good luck winning this game

  162. Gohawks5151

Seriously Russ… I don’t want to hear anymore about him calling his own plays and whatever. Get some control man

  163. Tony

    Those graphics lol

  164. DC

This has turned into a pretty ugly game to watch

  165. Matt

Russell has been trending in the wrong direction for several games now. Still amazing, obviously – but his first 3 games have kind of masked what has been some very up and down play over the last 3.

  166. Tony

    Need a td.

  167. Rob Staton

    These refs are a joke.

Call the TD and let it be overturned if needed.

    • Rob Staton

And they better overturn this on challenge because it’s a clear TD.

      • Bmseattle

Who the hell changed the call?

        • Tony

          Larry fitz.

      • Tony

What a joke of reffing tonight. Should be overturned with an apology and a gaurenteed make up call. But im bias soooo…..

    • Henry Taylor

The awful calls have been incredibly one sided.

    • Gohawks5151

Seriously. This is about as bad a performance as I’ve seen this year

    • Denver Hawker

The back judge who was there signaled a TD!

  168. Rowdy

Officials are being real one sized in this one

    • ReconUK

With this and the Wagner call, I get the sense they are trying to keep this game close. Seattle are playing more than Arizona out there.

  169. Pran

This is one of the worst officiated game this season..of all I watched.
Bad call missed call bad calll….keeps getting worse. NFL can’t have this on prime time…

  170. Lewis

A rule change I’d like to see: any play where an official signals touchdown is considered a ‘scoring play’ and is automatically reviewed, even if that call is changed.

  171. Bmseattle

The official in the best postion called it a TD

  172. Volume12

😂😂 he got that. Holy s**t!

    • Volume12

      What. A. Catch

  173. Rob Staton

That is unbelievably brilliant by Tyler Lockett.

  174. James P Kupihea

    Lockette in baby.

    • James

      Lockett*****

  175. Rob Staton

    Please, defense.

    Just get a stop.

  176. Pran

    Here come 90sec defense

  177. Rob Staton

    It’s all just so easy.

  178. Nate

Barnwell tweeted that Isaiah Simmons has two snaps tonight. Yeesh what’s going on there?

    • Rob Staton

      Wow

  179. Rob Staton

    What are Arizona doing here?

They need points, not to desperately get this one yard.

    • Rob Staton

How much time did they waste trying to covert for that one yard?

      • Lewis

Yeah, was wondering why they didn’t seem to have any sense of urgency

      • Bmseattle

        No kidding!
        What are they doing?
Why not just throw to Hopkins? We can’t possibly cover him.

      • Volume12

        A lot

      • Tony

They probably want to tick down the clock cause they have 3 timeouts still and trust getting a td and stopping our run game

      • Rowdy

Thinking the same thing but hey let them

  180. James P Kupihea

That’s a shame, I respect how Drake has stepped his game up since being given a shot with AZ

  181. Rowdy

Thinking the same thing but hey let them

  182. Rob Staton

You can never relax watching this defense.

    • Tony

Remember when a 10 pt lead was a gaurentee blowout win for us and our d???

      • Rowdy

        Unless its the superbowl

      • Volume12

27-17 used to be a final score

  183. Rowdy

Is there a limit on how many injury time outs you can have?

  184. Rob Staton

    Well done special teams.

    • Rob Staton

      What is Mayowa doing?

      What an idiot.

  185. Tony

    Mayowa u dumbass

  186. AlaskaHawk

Mayowa = you idiot. And I know what his tackling problem is – he tackles around the shoulders.

  187. Pran

    Pete…dumb dumber dumbest…

  188. Matt

Is this a Make-a-Wish situation with the officials?

  189. Volume12

    What is Mayowa doing!? 4th & 12 🤦‍♂️

  190. Rob Staton

Of course it’s a defensive lineman making a stupid mistake, allowing the defense to give up an easy TD with a missed tackle to boot at the end.

  191. CaptainJack

Cut Mayowa. Hurts the team more than he helps.

  192. Pran

Bobby and Mayowa costed 14 points… on top of the worst defense ever.

    • James P Kupihea

Now would be a great time for DK to wake up.

  193. Rob Staton

So many dumb mistakes in this game.

I don’t trust Seattle to finish this.

    • Tony

Im getting used to the mental mistakes

  194. AlaskaHawk

Should be an interesting headline out of this game!!!!!

  195. Tony

Az 4 TOs. Get ready for more seahawk defense.

  196. Rob Staton

Please don’t call it an easy conversion, Chris.

PS — run a bootleg Wilson run again or a read option.

  197. AlaskaHawk

No problem for the Seahawks – if they can run the ball. So far = so good. I do like Hyde, and RW is killiing them with rushes.

  198. Volume12

Let’s go Hyde. Falls on you

    • Volume12

      Why give up that cutback?

  199. Bmseattle

get ready for the fade bomb that Russ likes to throw in these moments

  200. Rob Staton

I can’t believe that third down call.

    • Rob Staton

How do you not involve Wilson on a RPO or something.

      • Volume12

Knew they were going w/ Hyde there, but that run?

    • Matt

      Just cowardly.

    • Volume12

      Jesus

    • AlaskaHawk

In their defense, we have all bitched about the long third down passes that were incomplete and stopped the clock. At least the clock ran down to 52 seconds.

  201. Rob Staton

How has it come down to the defense needing to make a stop.

    This is a nightmare.

    • AlaskaHawk

The defense sucks – but the offense isn’t helping them at all.

    • Tony

      Ugh

  202. CaptainJack

Pathetic playcalling from Schotty. Just pathetic

  203. CaptainJack

We deserve to lose this one

  204. Rob Staton

    It’s just TOO EASY.

  205. Pran

This one would live as one of the Pete’s worst games…

  206. Rob Staton

The Seahawks deserve to lose this game.

    Too many stupid mistakes.

  207. Volume12

    Terrible

  208. Matt

What’s the point of having Pete Carroll as HC? Seriously.

    • James P Kupihea

The super bowl win, the over 100 total wins, come now…you’re being a little bit “tiwtter-ish”…

  209. AlaskaHawk

Oh Lordy – we are going to overtime.

The glass isn’t half full – it isn’t half empty.

The glass is broken and shattered into 53 pieces.

  210. Tony

Mayowa, this is mostly on you

    • CaptainJack

What a great signing John Schneider! Most overrated GM in the NFL.

You’d be nothing, NOTHING, without Russell, John.

  211. Henry Taylor

Geno coming through in the clutch once again.

    • James P Kupihea

I swear that man sold his soul…he’s too far above average for winning coin tosses lol

  212. Volume12

Here we go. Here we go.

  213. Pran

Good lord..if Cards had onetime out could have won…

You can’t be any worse going with all youth on the defense than playing shit loads of money to those vets.

  214. ReconUK

If you want to be MVP Russ, here is another moment to do it. Go and finish the game

  215. Tony

Man, if carson wasnt hurt that last drive.

  216. Tony

    Sack right on que.

    This is how u lose.

  217. Matt

Russell…just get rid of it, dude.

  218. Rob Staton

    Come on attack them FFS.

  219. Rob Staton

Wilson is always dreadful when a team shows all out blitz.

    • Tony

He sees ghost when its all out.

  220. Tony

    You failed russ.

  221. Matt

Well…this could be the start of a journey to .500.

  222. Rob Staton

How the hell is the defense going to stop them getting about 30 yards to win.

    What a mess.

  223. Rowdy

Looks like game. Blame it on the d all you want but the offense holds just as much blame

    • Tony

      Plenty of blame for everyone.

  224. AlaskaHawk

Ugh – Offense isn’t performing either. They couldn’t run it for a first down, they couldn’t throw it for a first down.

    • Volume12

They had em on 3rd & 5 there. Had the coverage they wanted & everything

  225. GoHawksDani

Did I really stayed up for this s.ht? RW didn’t play like an MVP and the defense sucks

  226. ReconUK

We knew the defence was poor. I know Carson is out, I know Ifedi has returned but this OT is on Russ. Throw it away. We can only hope for miracles now. So glad I am here at 4am for this!

  227. Scot04

What a horrible way to lose. This defense is ridiculous

  228. Tony

Heres that loss we were all waiting for

  229. Denver Hawker

This is exactly the loss we expected this year. Hopefully motivate FO to get a deal done this week.

    • Pran

Russ concussed or Schotty concussed? They are playing like there is Aaron Donald and Mack on face… cards have zero pass rush just like us yet…

  230. ReconUK

The only positive I can think of from tonight, there are no excuses not to get help for this defence now. Even a blind man can see it.

  231. Jordan E

Go Hawks!!! Our Team is 5-0 so we dont have to do anything right!??

This loss is just demoralizing. And again! NICE JOB SIGNING AB!

    • Jordan E

Oh man… Spoke to soon. But we need to make a trade!

  232. Pran

No words.. Schotty had no answers for cards D. They had zero margin for error with that D …

    2 Russ picks and 2 dumb D penalties….. 20 free points swing.

  233. Matt

Another 500 yard day for the defense. Pathetic.

  234. BoiseSeahawk

    Pathetic.

  235. Tony

Great start to our big 5 game span.

  236. AlaskaHawk

Oh that’s funny. Arizona screwed by their own timeout.

    • Gohawks5151

      The rare self freeze

  237. Tony

This is still a loss. I dont care what bs happens.

    • Scot04

      Totally agree.

      • Scot04

But still hoping for another lucky win

  238. Matt

Holy cow…this team is just a straight mirage…yet they continue to pull things out. Just unreal.

  239. Robbie

I don’t even know what to say right now.

    • Matt

A 3-3 team that is somehow gonna be 6-0.

      • Tony

        I dont trust anything anymore.

  240. Henry Taylor

This stadium man, weird shit happens here.

    • Hawks4life

Was thinking the same thing. This whole game is unreal

  241. Rob Staton

    Wilson’s all over the place.

    • Rob Staton

Arizona has absolutely spooked him. What was that checkdown???

That was never on. Throw it away.

      • Pran

        Russ concussed I guess

  242. Pepperpig

    Unreal!

  243. James P Kupihea

I LITERALLY CALLED IT. He’s been drifting left allllll night.

  244. Volume12

    Iced their own kicker!

  245. Bmseattle

    Lucky that wasn’t a pick 6

  246. ReconUK

If a Cat has 9 lives, how many lives does a Sea Hawk have?

  247. Tony

Russ, stop pussyfooting around and throw it.

    • Denver Hawker

      Deejay almost got Russ killed.

  248. Rob Staton

Wilson is exhausted and we seem to have run out of plays.

    • Volume12

      They need DK here

  249. Volume12

    Russ got drilled

  250. AlaskaHawk

Arizona is blitzing freely. Up to 6 guys at a time.

  251. Rowdy

This loss is 100% on russ

    • Tony

Enough of mvp talk. Great player still. But mvp talk week 15, not 6

  252. Volume12

    Nooooo!!

  253. Matt

Russell has been awful outside of 3 throws.

  254. Scot04

    WTF

  255. CaptainJack

    We were right.

    Seahawksdraftblog was right

    • Rowdy

That russ would lose the game for us

      • CaptainJack

        Idk what you’re talking about

We lost because we have the worst pass rush in the nfl

        • Jordan E

The pushed it even farther today. Instead of no sacks/pressure + HUGE totally unnecessary penalty on a field goal.

        • Rowdy

So you didn’t watch the game then? The pass rush is bad but russ made multiple bad play in scoring position

  256. Gohawks5151

    No one there.

  257. Volume12

    Damn man

    • Volume12

      DK had that too

  258. AlaskaHawk

That was a tough interception. I like their game better when they were mixing passes and runs.

    • CaptainJack

From my POV it was a weird and bad throw by Russ

      • Tony

He was expecting a blitz and they dropped coverage. They were in his head all 2nd half.

      • bootfall

None of the receivers anticipated the pass. I think somebody ran the wrong route.

  259. GoHawksDani

RW doesn’t deserve MVP. Such stupid mistakes…wow…

  260. Matt

This team is not winning another game until Philadelphia.

  261. ReconUK

    Russ is not the MVP.

  262. AlaskaHawk

Well that sucks. A winnable game – pissed away.

  263. Gohawks5151

Russ was bad. Sign a pass rusher. Goodnight

  264. Scot04

Good thing Carroll loves games like this…

  265. JLemere

Good job ARI. You made Russ Wilson look like a dumbass

    • Tony

Expect lots of blitzing going forward russ.

  266. CaptainJack

Tough sledding from here out. Could be one and done in the playoffs again. Hope this motivates them to make a move because there is absolutely no pass rush. Every Seahawks fan defending the front office this offseason is a blithering idiot.

  267. GoHawksDani

Poor Lockett…only guy dressed up tonight (maybe DK too). I’m pissed. It’s 5:15 am gotta get up soon and was stay up for this s.htstorm

  268. Tony

Good. Stop pretending. You cant ignore 1/3 of the game. And russ cant save you every week. Stop being blind about your team. Dumb mistakes all game.

  269. Denver Hawker

The defense was consistent at least. Team just doesn’t have enough against a good opponent to win if Russ isn’t on his A-game. Refs definitely affected momentum and the mental side that comes with it. Russ was handed the ball to win several times tonight and didn’t get it done. It’s just how the season will be.

  270. Jordan E

“We don’t need another weapon like AB. AB would just be the third WR anyway”
“Rob- why are you always so negative. Hawks perfect 5-0. Team is great. No changes are needed”

^ Facepalm to these types of comments. That was a demoralizing loss.

  271. Volume12

Another play they had, taken away from a flag. 3 huge 1’s. Mayowa’s, the false start, and the hold. Even w/ Russ’s picks. Last 1 is all on him.

  272. OH Hawk

Not one to bitch about refs but the bs call on Wagner on 3rd down really changed the game and let Arizona back into it.

Having a average pass rush maybe that call doesn’t matter. Really need to go and get someone.

  273. CaptainJack

To the people putting it on russ… what the ever loving hell? Russ was incredible most of the game.

Did you seriously not watch how anemic the pass rush was? How absolutely dreadful the playcalling was at the end of the game AGAIN? DJ Dallas allowing Russ to get absolutely smoked on that last drive?

Russ is still MVP. This defense is honestly so awful.

    • Matt

Disagree. Russ had a couple incredible throws today; otherwise he wasn’t seeing the game very well. 3 of the worst interceptions I’ve ever seen from him.

He hasn’t been very good the last few games.

    • Scot04

No way Russ can win an MVP with this defense

      • Jordan E

He can. If anything he needs more weapons on offense. The offense is impotent without Carson. I am all for letting Russ Cook but they were like throwing every down at one point. We need more weapons. DK was shut down this game.

        • Scot04

They blew a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left. The offense can only win so many games; even with more weapons. This defense proved today offense alone can’t win every game. If we do get in the playoffs it will cost us a top seed. this defense as is will make for another early exit as well.

          • Jordan E

I agree. This team needs to fix the defense if we really want to make a SB. Was just saying that Russ could still win an MVP if he had more weapons. Like Lamar Jackson was great last year and won the award but they were out real quick in the playoffs.

  274. 12th chuck

we need a new d coordinator. I know its Pete’s d, but having Arizona march down 4 times last 4 drives is ridiculous along with a new d coordinator, a new d as well. they better try and acquire someone before the trade deadline

    • CaptainJack

We just don’t have the talent. And now we don’t have the draft picks. John Schneider is a disaster.

      • 12th chuck

drunk off their own success. lets hope they can acquire some bodies. at this point it might be worth trading away next years draft

  275. Hughz

Blame this loss first on mowaya for that bone headed penalty that led to the TD instead of a fg. But secondly Russ gifted them 3 turnovers. Those three passes are just horrible and inexcusable.

  276. clbradley17

Talk about costly penalties! How many were there in the 4th qtr. & OT that cost us the game? And do we never learn any lesson? We continue to try and get cute and pass instead of running at the 2 or 3 yard line. Baker int. the first time, just like in Miami week 4 and with J. Kearse ending up with nothing 50 times passing to him over and over deep in the red zone for years. Like they said after the SB loss, RUN The Damn Ball!

  277. Pran

Cards figured out Hawks Offense. Schotty had no answers and some of the dumbest play calls and execution.
Cards D is no better than Hawks D players wise yet they could take down Russ and Co.
Vance Joseph vs Ken decided the winner tonight.

    – worst officiating
    – dumb plays on offense and defense
    – defense less said better. Everyone can take 50% pay cut
    – there is no need for a DE trade. One and done in playoffs regardless
    – Let Russ Cook gone too far. Carson’s pay doubled tonight. This offense can’t do a shit without running game

  278. clbradley17

Tyler came to play! Too bad everything else had tons of flaws – D as usual, play-calling, costly penalties, OL getting Russ creamed several times, Russ getting int. 3 times, injuries to Carson and Griffin. We were at least 10 points up at least twice after halftime, and gave it away. Only great player was Tyler – he had 200 yds. 3 TDs and don’t follow fantasy, but saw he had a score in the 50s, never seen that for a WR, QB or at all as far as I can remember. When was the last time a WR had 200 yds. in a game?
