The latest rumours ahead of the trade deadline

November 1st, 2020 | Written by Rob Staton

Ryan Anderson continues to be linked to the Seahawks

With the Seahawks seemingly still interested in making some moves, here’s the latest ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

— Multiple journalists, including Adam Schefter, are reporting that Jacob Hollister is available via trade.

This isn’t a surprise. The Seahawks were overly cautious at the position this year, after losing Will Dissly the last two seasons and having issues with Ed Dickson’s health. They invested over $10m in Greg Olsen and Hollister alone, re-signed Luke Willson then drafted Colby Parkinson and Stephen Sullivan

So far they haven’t featured their tight ends in the passing game much at all. They go into Sunday’s game against the Niners bizarrely carrying five players at the position on the 53-man roster. They can afford to move Hollister to raise some cap space and possibly acquire a day three pick.

It’s the only serious move they can make to create funds for a pass rusher. They won’t save much, mind, so it’s best to be realistic about who they can acquire.

— Schefter is also reporting that Ryan Kerrigan has requested a trade but Washington intends to keep him. It’s a bit surprising that they won’t grant him his wish, after such a long, successful career with the team. However, they are probably more interested in moving Ryan Anderson and retaining Kerrigan for depth/rotation purposes.

The Seahawks would struggle to fit Kerrigan’s salary into the cap without help. This is something fans need to keep at the forefront of their expectations. After acquiring Carlos Dunlap, it is much more likely they will now try to add a younger player on an expiring rookie contract. That, along with a Hollister trade, is doable.

Ian Rapoport is the second person following Jason La Canfora to connect Ryan Anderson to Seattle. He also believes Takk McKinley could be a target.

These are the two players to focus on I think. Both are on cheap contracts that the Seahawks can afford. They could come in and offer something a bit different to what Seattle already has on the roster. Although both have underwhelmed in their NFL careers so far, they could be highly motivated to reach free agency on the front foot.

McKinley has the length and speed Seattle craves while Anderson doesn’t have the athletic profile but showed a knack for rushing the edge at Alabama and delivering impact plays at key moments.

Neither is likely to cost much in terms of compensation. Given the links to Seattle, this feels like the place to look.

La Canfora says Anderson will ‘likely gone’ by Tuesday but Kerrigan’s contract is a problem for teams.

La Canfora also expects the Texans to be sellers before the deadline and once again he mentions Whitney Mercilus as a possible departure.

It would be a strong addition similar to Dunlap’s arrival. Yet the cost of the trade and salary, plus the burden Houston would take on for moving him less than 12 months after he signed a whopping extension, makes this one less likely than McKinley or Anderson.

— The one thing to also consider is how badly the defense performs today. It’s possible you’re about to watch converted WR/TE Stephen Sullivan rushing the passer. If the Seahawks lose off the back of a horror show from the pass rush again, don’t be surprised if they’re more aggressive by Tuesday.

They are still very limited in terms of what they can do — but this is their last chance to make a deal. After Tuesday, they’re stuck with what they’ve got.

  1. BOHICA says:

I’d say adding McKinley or Anderson along with bringing Cameron Wake in as well would add some much needed bite to this defensive line. From the Hawks perspective, adding Wake wouldn’t cost future draft capital but might be able to provide enough additional pass rush to help out Dunlap, and tip the scale in their favor as the approach the playoffs. Will these additions all of the sudden make this defense transform into a top 10 over night?… Sadly I’m afraid the answer is not likely, however a shot in the arm might just be the remedy and the most realistic approach to helping repair a massive void. Just my 2 cents

    • UP Hawk says:

Wake is a great thought. He was still impactful last year. We would be able to manage his snaps better after picking up Dunlap to maintain him as a situational pass rusher

      • Hoggs41 says:

There is still Clay Matthews as well. I know he had some clause in his Rams contract about the $3.6m they owed him. He was nevdr going to sign for less than that because he would forfeit money. Not fully sure what the clause was though.

        • BOHICA says:

Wake would cost the Hawks a fraction of what Clay Matthew would command. I truly believe Wake would be a much better fit financially, locker room presents, scheme wise, chemistry etc… Wake is the more intelligent choice for a plethora of reasons.

          • Rob Staton says:

Let’s also remember that Cam Wake is 39 in January.

            • BOHICA says:

Absolutely, which is why as a pure rotational pass rusher it would add depth and offer additional flexibility. I just prefer inexpensive options that don’t cost draft capital or huge hits to our cap space. Wake is a great low cost choice with some upside.

              • ScottS says:

I simply cannot see Wake a any sort of great choice, low cost or otherwise. The guy is done.

                • BOHICA says:

I believe Wake had 3 sacks in less than 8 games last season for Tennessee followed 6 and 10.5 sacks the two previous years in Miami. Obviously box scores aren’t the only metric, so it needs to be said that he also posted PFF scores of 75.0, 81.7 and 83.5 in those three seasons. Wake would simply be asked to win a lot of 1-on-1 matchups, which he can still do on a pretty regular basis. Asking Wake to come in and play the remaining half of the season on a rotational basis would be a pretty ideal situation from his standpoint, as he could potentially rack up some stats in the event of any incentive-laden contract. From the Hawks perspective, adding Wake wouldn’t cost future draft capital or mess with the salary cap, but would help provide much needed additional pass rush. ScottS, I would hardly call “The Guy done”… pro bowl selection nope, absolutely not. I’m not delusional but done, thats a bit of a stretch. The man can still ball, the question is does he want to?

                  • Rob Staton says:

He’s nearly 39 and who knows what shape he’s in, or if he even wants to play.

                  • BOHICA says:

In all fairness he didn’t really start to play NFL football until 2009-2018 as he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2005 but was only made the practice squad and then from 2007-2008 played for the BC Lions in the CFL. So you could make the argument that despite his age he has relatively low NFL miles when compared to say Bruce Smith who played at a high level until he retired in 2003 at the age of 40. No I’m not suggesting he’s on the same level as a Bruce Smith or Reggie White type… I’m simply pointing out that I think the man has some juice left in the tank especially if used in a limited rotational basis. Who knows if it will even happen but sure is fun to consider and it makes a lot of sense for a number of reasons i pointed out.

  2. Lewis says:

The defense wasn’t the only horror show last week. The game was within reach without one of the red zone interceptions. Russ has been known to press. Maybe with the lack of defense he’s trying to do too much.

I hope they can do something else to try and right the ship on D and settle Russ down.

  3. Hunter says:

Not that I think it’ll actually happen but how wild would it be if Sullivan has like 2-3 sacks

  4. Jordan E says:

Wow. That is very surprising how the Skins dont want to trade Kerrigan.. I know Rons major goal is to build a new ethical and winning culture. Maybe making it in the playoffs- even if out first week would suffice in reaching this goal. Very surprising.

  5. Rob Staton says:

Tua’s brother was electric for Maryland the other night.

    Looked superb.

  6. OregonHawk says:

Is Dontari Poe worth a roster spot?

    • Rob Staton says:

And it’s very worrying for the next few weeks if Wilson can’t deal with this better. Because teams are going to do this a lot.

    • Volume12 says:

Good stuff. Not from Russ, just the overall analysis & breakdown.

I’m wondering why Russ didn’t audible out of 1 of those?

      • Rob Staton says:

I just see DK on the second one, almost on his own, and Lockett running downfield (and if Wilson waits 2 more ticks he’s wide open for a possible TD).

He was absolutely seeing ghosts. Completely and utterly frazzled by Vance Joseph’s change-up.

I wish we could do things like that on defense…

        • Scot04 says:

With teams out scheming our coach. Defenses confusing our Pro Bowl Quarterback with the same looks and him not adjusting, i can’t imagine how bad it will be expecting Dallas and Hart to pick up these things today vrs a better Defense. Could be very ugly. Hoping Wilson just avoids injury.

          • James Kupihea says:

Up-tempo dink and dunk was invented for precisely this, but with our run game hampered it’ll be hard to maintain a balanced attack. Today has to be about speed on all levels, because we already know the SF defense is gonna get after Russ, and our defense makes every offense look good. Even if we put the TE and RB on blocking duty all game (not gonna happen), he’s in for a long one. Composure will be tested.

        • CaptainJack says:

Russ is liable for a few games like that every season. And playing an NFL game to overtime is mentally and physically taxing.

  8. Turp says:

Great summary of trade targets Rob, thank you! Keep churning out the best Hawks content on the web! I’ll read every word.

  9. cha says:

Glazer just said Carson, Hyde, Homer out today. DJ Dallas gets the start and Penny Hart will take snaps at RB.

    https://twitter.com/JayGlazer/status/1322961659649032193

    • Rob Staton says:

You’ve got to be kidding me.

I want to re-write my article about being worried for today’s game. This could be a massacre. They’re going to be teeing off on Wilson.

This as Arizona week 16 vibes but the Niners are better.

I hope this is Glazer just being wrong, like he was about Pete retiring a few years ago.

      • cha says:

Garafolo just said Carson is still a gametime decision. May be repeating yesterday’s info and Glazer has more recent information.

      • CaptainJack says:

I heard Homer’s injury was minor and more of a pain issue than a structural issue. If they are keeping him out I think Carson will play in some capacity.

    • CaptainJack says:

      Dear god

    • Pran says:

We have 6 TEs, they can play some RB

    • cha says:

RW will lead the team in rushing yards, as he does when the RBs are banged up.

I’d like to see some designed RW runs.

      • spartacus says:

Same. And I know historically Russ hasn’t kept many of them, but it feels like we’ve hardly seen any read option this year. Or is that just me?

  10. CaptainJack says:

Had a dream we got the Ryan Kerrigan deal finished last night. Well, woke up disappointed.

  11. CaptainJack says:

Rob, I agree this game is feeling like a loss, with the injuries combined with the niners current hot streak.

It’s not a game you want to lose… I think it’s fair to say starting out 0-2 in the NFC west this year is a a disaster for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. We are down maybe our best player on defense, and our best pass rusher won’t play until next week. And pretty much all of our running backs are injured. Even if it is a loss, I won’t write off this team. Adams will probably be back next week, Rasheem Green is coming back and DJ Reed is supposed to offer something as an additional defensive back. As long as we get a trade done to move Hollister’s salary and bring in a younger pass rusher, I think we have enough defensive fortifications coming on this season to have a stronger second half than first half.

  12. Big Mike says:

So with DJ Dallas and someone named Penny Hart at RB will the Seahawks be smart enough to go to a quick passing game?

    • Scot04 says:

More important is the decision making and reading of defenses. 2 of Wilson’s interceptions were on quick passes.

      • Big Mike says:

Absolutely. My point just that deep drops, long developing stuff is unlikely to be effective with little to no run game and RBs not exactly adept at pass pro.

        • Gohawks5151 says:

The sad part is that we totally have the personnel to take advantage of short pass and run after catch. DK is a monster. Tyler is a shifty punt return guy. David Moore has proven himself pretty good with the ball in his hands.

  13. cha says:

Oh no. Ronnie Stanley writhing on the ground in pain. TJ Watt rolled up on him from behind accidentally. Cart out.

    • Big Mike says:

Left on the cart with an air cast on the leg. Happy for him he literally just signed his extension.

      • Gohawks5151 says:

Miami playing well. Defense doing enough. Tua had a nice drive. Here’s a chance for him to make a statement!

        • Big Mike says:

Goff with one pick thrown and almost another (DB let it go through his hands). Miami must be getting pressure. He and Jimmy G both struggle with any kind of pressure. Makes our offseason even more baffling since we face both twice per year.

    • Scot04 says:

Guess that mean Fluker to RT again and Brown back to LT again. Horrible to see stuff like that. But well run teams have depth and Brown looked very capable last week.

    • Denver Hawker says:

2 days after signing $100MM deal. Perfect case study as to why players holdout or try to maximize value. He’s young and likely can come back from a major injury, but you just never know when this game can take you out.

  14. Gohawks5151 says:

Haha. This Miami game is wild so far. Rams give it right back on a scoop and score. Flores got these boys playing hard. Still loaded with picks and the texans free fall might give them a top 5 pick

  15. cha says:

    Jared Goff just got murdered.

  19. Rob Staton says:

Why do the Rams never play like this against us???

  20. Nathan W. says:

Holy sh*t. The Rams are getting smoked. This is how you win against the Rams. Pass rush pass rush pass rush. Goff is soft in the face of pressure.

  21. Norman says:

Dolphins looking more and more like our most quality win. They wipe the floor with the 49ers, now, so far, doing the same to the Rams. 28-7.

  22. Big Mike says:

The Rams have been quite effective running the ball yet McVay insists on throwing. Why?

  23. Rob Staton says:

How the hell are Minnesota 1-5?

  24. Gaux Hawks says:

6 TE: Olsen, Dissly, Willson, Hollister, Parkinson, Sullivan…

  25. Rob Staton says:

    No Carson

    No Hyde

    No Mayowa

    No Griffin

    No Adams

Russell Wilson is going to have to have the game of his life today.

This is going to be an embarrassing day.

    • Rob Staton says:

Glad we didn’t draft big Clyde BTW.

      • Trevor says:

        What a shame really.

        • Rob Staton says:

Also glad we invested the future in a player who can’t get on the field.

          • Big Mike says:

After today Adams will have played approx 39% of the Seahawks’ games time.
Two firsts, a third and Bradley McDougald.
Total and complete fail by Pete so far.

            • Simo says:

I understand the frustration Big Mike, but injuries are extremely unpredictable. Nobody would have expected Adams to get hurt like he did and miss so much time! We just need to get him back healthy as he’s a difference maker when he’s on the field.

If the team had the benefit of hindsight like we do, they wouldn’t ever make a bad trade or draft pick!

              • Big Mike says:

“The greatest ability is availability” – Tony Dungy

                • Simo says:

No question, I’m only pointing out that availability due to injury can be very unpredictable, and saying a trade was a complete failure because the player got injured is easy after the fact.

I’m frustrated he can’t get on the field yet either, hopefully soon.

      • Scot04 says:

Would love to change the top of our draft and reverse the Adams trade. The offseason as a whole was definitely a difficult one to understand.

    • Trevor says:

Today was only the third time over the last 20+ years that I placed a bet against the HAwks. SF at +3 just seems like a lock based on this roster and the coaching matchup. Russ is always the wildcard though giving the Hawks a chance if he gets hot. Just think he will need to put up 40 today though with no Run game or defense.

    • CaptainJack says:

      The glendale curse continues

    • JLemere says:

Well, it’s time for all 11 guys on defense to play coverage.

  26. Big Mike says:

No Mayowa today. Wow, even less pass rush than usual
    .
    .
    .
oh wait, can’t go lower than “none”. Never mind. Business as usuual.

  27. Matt says:

I think the Seahawks FO had a disastrous offseason. But…I think it’s becoming clear to me that there is no dominant team in the NFL. Most of the top teams seem severely flawed.

Again…not a defense of the offseason decisions, but this is a pretty unique year where no team really stands out to me, as “the team.”

    • Lil’stink says:

“I think the Seahawks FO had a disastrous offseason”

Did they have a great offseason? Of course not. But they built a competent OL and changed their offensive philosophy to finally give Wilson the keys to the car. These are the two biggest reasons why we are 5-1 (outside of Wilson, of course).

  28. GoHawksDani says:

    Weird night…
Pats might beat Bills. Bengals likely beat Titans. Vikings likely beat Packers (yessss), Dolphins likely beat Rams (double yessss)? So maybe Hawks could beat niners too? 😀

    I could see 3 outcomes:
1, they beat us badly (like 38-10 bad)
2, they beat us badly but in trash-time Hawks try to rally to show a closer game than it was (like 27-10 until mid Q4 then Hawks quickly put up to score to end at 24-27)
3, we keep it close, play a great game without stupid mistakes and win a close game something like 31-27 to us

  29. Sea Mode says:

Wow, Cam just drove the Pats down by 3 all the way down to the 12 yard line and then fumbled with 30 seconds left…

A big, fast, quick dude with good hands and experience in the trenches. Sounds like what you’d look for in a pass rusher. I’m allowing the hype to wash over me a bit, but wouldn’t it be funny if the Hawks found another market inefficiency in the TE to DE convert?

  59. Mac says:

Brilliant series. I love seeing us trying to set the tone with our 4th string RB to set up a better punt position. Pete must be trying to get Schotty a head coaching gig. OMG.

  60. YakiMax says:

I knew we shouldn’t have traded Finney! OL is hopeless without him!

  61. Trevor says:

When Chris Carson is not playing this offense looks completely different. Same thing happens last year. Russ looks like a rookie with happy feet last week in the 2nd Half and this week. If they don’t figure out how to deal with the blitz they are going to get killed. Everyone will copy the scheme Vance Joesph switched to last week.

  62. Tony says:

This is exactly what i was expecting. Carson is the catalyst. But with your top 3 rbs out, they are completely off. They dont know what to do. Cards proved the sending blitzes will rattle him. Blueprint has been written.

  63. Tony says:

    Finally someone from Hawks!

  80. Sea Mode says:

    Cheat code DK

  81. STTBM says:

Of course we whiff the extra point…

  82. Bmseattle says:

And…that’s why its inexcusable that DK only had one reception last week.

  83. Sea Mode says:

Ugh. Just what we need in a tight game like this…

  84. Rob Staton says:

    1. GET METCALF THE BALL. He should never, ever, ever have another 1-2 target game. Get it in his f-ing hands.

    2. FFS Myers. Couldn’t even enjoy the play fully for 30 seconds.

  85. STTBM says:

Russ still leads the nfl in passer rating, despite throwing five more picks than Mahomes. It’s still his mvp to lose.

  86. Trevor says:

    D.K. is a freak wow.

Whenever I get really frustrated with the Hawks I always think it could be worse we could have Jimmy G as our QB. He is brutal luckily for us.

  87. Tony says:

Myers 1st miss i think. Make it far and few and not in game clinching times.

  88. Rob Staton says:

I HATE that flag on Robinson.

What the hell is he supposed to do there???

  89. Gohawks5151 says:

All these quick screens being a year to my eye. I’ve been praying so long

  90. Troy says:

Thank goodness we drafted Metcalf, best pick we had in a long time

  91. Volume12 says:

    Terrible call.

  92. STTBM says:

Am I crazy or was that roughing call totally bogus?!

  93. Sea Mode says:

    pretty soft call?

  94. Rob Staton says:

Shanahan so clever at this. Isolates KJ so he has to pick RB or WR, can’t cover both. So easy for a first down. Easy completions.

  95. STTBM says:

How did two teams leave Neal rotting on the practice squad?

  96. Rob Staton says:

More pressure. More more more more more.

    Take a chance today.

  97. Matt says:

Why more teams don’t do what SF just did and snap the ball quick on those 4th and shorts is beyond me.

  98. Rob Staton says:

    FOUR penalties already.

    Brutal.

  99. STTBM says:

I know Seattle is sloppy, but this many penalties early?!

  100. STTBM says:

    Great defensive call!

  101. Matt says:

KJ having a real renaissance. He diagnoses plays so well.

  102. Rob Staton says:

One of those classic long, slow, painful death march drives.

  103. Pran says:

Their 10th string RB can play our DEfense but not our 4th round pick.
Shanny has no respect for Hawks D

  104. Tony says:

Well its either this or 3 play 80 yd td drives. Atleast we have a chance to turnover on these drives.

  105. Rob Staton says:

Bobby Wagner had a clear sight of the RB.

    The RB won.

    • Tony says:

A bit unfair to say that. Bobby held well. Rb just stuck his arm out and barely broke plain

      • Rob Staton says:

Bobby had him 1v1 square up. And the running back scored.

        • Tony says:

But lets not paint it as he got moved on by the rb. Great play by rb to reach out. Bobby has underperformed this year, but that play wasnt like he got demolished.

          • Rob Staton says:

He did get moved. The path was blocked and he got through.

            • Tony says:

Well we have a different definition of moved then lol. No worries, i agree a couple years ago wagner pushes him back. Age is creeping on him.

            • Pearedu says:

Because Bobby keeps tackling with arms and chest , he doesn’t tackle with the shoulders. He is a hug type of tackle guy. He doesn’t hit with his shoulder like a Ray Lewis.

Rob if you are a Rugby guy , you know what I mean…

      • Bmseattle says:

You’d hope that if your all pro MLB is unblocked and has a running start to tackle their RB, that the RB would go backwards.

    • Adoh says:

      Wagner getting old.

  106. Pran says:

Bobby 1 on 1 need to take down that 10th string RB .. sucks

  107. STTBM says:

Bobby has lost a step. No doubt. He’s still a very good player, but no longer invincible.

  108. Sea Mode says:

David Moore questionable with a rib injury.

  109. STTBM says:

    Dk in miners heads…

  110. Volume12 says:

    Metcalf is a monster!

  111. Matt says:

We’re at the point that DK simply needs 10 targets a game. I don’t care if he’s only hauling in 6 of those – he just changes the dynamic of the game.

  112. STTBM says:

Seattle remembers they’re paying Hollister a bunch. Perhaps showcasing him, trying desperately to get a team with a pass rusher to trade with us?

  113. Sea Mode says:

Uh oh… needing 1 yard is not our specialty right now…

  114. Tony says:

Man i hope they give deejay some actual runs and screens. Involve him in offense a bit. You cant just abandon the rb’s. Trust your depth pete.

  115. STTBM says:

So glad Seattle running slants to DK….

  116. Volume12 says:

My goodness man. Just bodies dudes.

  117. JC3 says:

Man, we need to bring Marshawn Lynch back soon.

  118. Sea Mode says:

    DK asserting dominance.

  119. STTBM says:

…much better than endless fade routes ..

  120. Rob Staton says:

    Keep feeding that BAMF.

  121. Rob Staton says:

    Dear defense,

You are allowed to stop the other team. Try it. You might like it.

    • Sea Mode says:

Was just thinking: uh oh, we left them enough time to march comfortably 80yds down the field and then get the 2nd half kickoff.

  122. Volume12 says:

    Thought Flowers had that

  123. Rob Staton says:

    The blitz never gets home.

    Deary me.

  124. STTBM says:

How come qb sneaks always work vs us but Carrol won’t let Russ do it?

  125. Bmseattle says:

Our DL is getting pushed back 2 yards on every run play.

  126. Tony says:

Nice d to give kittle 15 yds of space on 2nd and 15.

  127. STTBM says:

So tired of watching Seattle leave TEs and backs uncovered in a zone, and DBs line up 10 yards of 10th string receivers….Prevent D only prevents you from winning….

  128. Rob Staton says:

The defense basically only gets a stop when they force a turnover, don’t they?

  129. Rob Staton says:

    No… why use a timeout.

Now they have time to think about their best 3rd and 13 conversion and it stops the clock for them.

  130. JC3 says:

Wonder what does Luke Willson do to kill time for the entire 60 minutes?

  131. Sea Mode says:

do we take a timeout and try to leave ourselves some time on the clock…?

  132. cha says:

Great diagnosis on that misdirection to Kittle. That throw back across by Jimmy was dangerous.

That’s what I’m saying. If his first look that’s been schemed isn’t wide open he’s in trouble.

  133. icb12 says:

Why wait 20 sec to call the TO Pete?

Call it immediately if you’re going to. Wtf?

  134. Volume12 says:

    There ya go Rob!

  135. downtownjewelrybryan says:

    FINALLY!!!!

  136. cha says:

    Ok Bobby!

  137. Sea Mode says:

    Finally got home!

  138. Tony says:

A huge win for our defense this half. Build on it in 2nd half.

  139. Troy says:

Wagner with the GROWN MAN sack!!!

  140. Rob Staton says:

Come on. Bloody offense going to waste this.

    • Rob Staton says:

      Yep.

      Awful.

A quick three and out. They have two timeouts!

The defense can’t handle the offense doing this.

Good punt might save the day.

  141. STTBM says:

Uhh….not a good time to stop innovating and executing…

  142. cha says:

Has Olsen actually learned the offense? That’s two straight plays he looked lost.

  143. Pran says:

Wow.. took 20 sec off the clock

  144. STTBM says:

    Wow. Worst clock MGMT ever!

  145. Volume12 says:

    Dammit

  146. icb12 says:

    Oh for crying out loud.

  147. Bmseattle says:

I predict we see many more blitzes against us in the 2and half. We apparantly have no answer.

  148. Tony says:

So, not take a sack? And stop the clock and save there TO? Bad play russ.

  149. Sea Mode says:

    welp…

(got away with a big OL hold there too…)

  150. Sea Mode says:

    Holy Dickson!

  151. STTBM says:

    Wasted opportunity. The Carrol/Schotty Special…

  152. downtownjewelrybryan says:

    ok thanks shamaham

  153. Rob Staton says:

    And breathe.

Second half adjustments lost us the game last week. GOT to be better. GOT to be ready.

    • STTBM says:

I love how jacked you are for this Rob! I feel you.. felt like they rran out of plays last week, were unprepared…

  154. Tony says:

Id like to see more screens. Especially if theyre blitzing this much.

  155. Lewis says:

Imagine if we had an even modest pass rush and could generate more turnovers?

  156. Pran says:

Good luck.. Pete will not adjust when he thinks team is playing well, Shanahan adjusts and runs away with game. Pete will wait for end of the game to adjust…..

    • Tony says:

This first drive scares me for the 9ers. I can see shanahan catching us off gaurd and moving easy down the field.

  157. 12th chuck says:

wasted opportunity’s are probably going to come back and bite us in the a$$

  158. cha says:

    GB lost today

    Rams lost today

    The Saints are behind Chicago

This is a serious chance to gain some ground, Hawks.

  159. Sea Mode says:

That last Dickson punt was 65 yds, and tucked into bed on its own at the 2 yard line.

  160. STTBM says:

Seattle better plan on facing the blitz, and come up with some new ways to pressure Jimmy G…Defense is going to get tired soon…

  161. DougK says:

Shaky, scary start but defense is stepping it up as we desperately needed. And offensive looking more in sync. We seemed to lose in the trenches the first quarter but holding up better since. Good pass pro generally after those first couple bad sequences. Now we need to hold steady and finish.

  162. Tecmo Bowl says:

    Is Greg Olson healthy?

  163. STTBM says:

Niners fully aware Seattle only has 3 active DT’s. I expect alot more runs attacking them up the middle, with deeper play action passes.

  164. cha says:

2 targets to Olsen 0 catches

2 targets to Hollister 1 catch

    Dissly, no targets

  165. cha says:

Bobby was on a mission on that play. Throwing himself into that double team!

  166. Sea Mode says:

    Let’s gooo!

  167. Tony says:

Wagner destroyed the blocking there. There is some BAMF left in the tank!

  168. Henry Taylor says:

    3 sacks!?!?

    Is that even allowed?

  169. Volume12 says:

    BWagz is ballin!

    • Trevor says:

Nice to see him finally make some of those splash plays we got used to seeing him make game in game out.

  170. Troy says:

Once we add Dunlap and Adams to this defense, we might actually be real super bowl contenders…hope growing

  171. cha says:

How is that not a PF on that hit on DK?

Just because he’s bigger he can absorb it???

  172. AlaskaHawk says:

Nice to see DeeJay Dallas playing and scoring. Everyone has to contribute.

  173. cha says:

5 minutes off the clock and a TD.

RW controlling the offense with options.

    This is the way.

  174. STTBM says:

    Defense needs to hold here.

  175. cha says:

    CODY BARTON WITH A PLAY

  176. Volume12 says:

    Ball out!

  177. Tony says:

Put this game away early! I want my heart to chill in 4th.

  178. Bmseattle says:

Why isnt Brock Huard calling this game?
    Isnt he partnered with Myers?

  179. downtownjewelrybryan says:

    muah! THATS BELLORÈ

  180. DougK says:

That’s 2 nice plays at least for Barton (1 each half I saw). Worth his roster spot on special teams alone.

  181. Tony says:

All russ there. Enjoying a much better game from him.

  182. Volume12 says:

    What a f**n throw!

  183. Sea Mode says:

Let’s goooo! Way to keep it alive, Russ.

  184. Leonardo says:

O-line has done a great job giving Russ time to get in a groove unlike last week, that’s been the difference.

    • Lewis says:

Disagree completely. He’s had plenty of time to throw the vast majority of the time. The difference is he isn’t holding it as long.

    • SoCal12 says:

I really think Damian Lewis is the one diamond in the rough we seem mine per draft.

  185. sgtPeppy says:

All I can think of is gotta go for 2 there. Remember the Atlanta Wild Card game?

  186. downtownjewelrybryan says:

screw a prevent D…keep bringing the heat

  187. Sea Mode says:

RW surely smashing TD records again this week, right?

  188. Tony says:

I want more padding on this lead. I trust nothing with this defense.

  189. Sea Mode says:

Now hopefully this scoreboard pressure forces Jimmy G to push it a bit more than he can handle. Let’s go D!

  190. Simo says:

Russ doin his thing, but the defense is flat out ballin!!! Bobby must have drank from the fountain of youth this morning, he looks quick and strong!

  191. cha says:

    Kittle 3 targets, 1 catch 14 yards.

  192. Hawk time says:

Rob seems to go quiet when the hawks do well. Only comments when they’re doing bad

  193. DougK says:

What a statement game so far. Keep it going!

  194. Volume12 says:

    Zone blitzing. Love it.

  195. Henry Taylor says:

This is starting to get fun.

  196. Sea Mode says:

Pile it on, baby! Good coverage sack there

  197. Tony says:

    Defense! Thank you! Finally!

  198. YakiMax says:

    Is Alton better than Benson???

  199. cha says:

HOOK THIS GAME INTO MY VEINS

  200. SteveLargent80 says:

Ken Norton Jr seems to have done a better job today. Blitzes are getting home, only real gaffe was the blitz that gave Kittle a free 15

  201. Pran says:

Metcalf is the new beastmode.. team MVP

  202. Tony says:

This is fun. I like the gameplan, execution in all phases.

  203. SoCal12 says:

DK’s such a cheat code for us. 9ers look so frustrated and exhausted trying to contain him.

  204. Tony says:

9ers cant lose warner. That will really crush there defense. Hes been simply amazing this year.

  205. 12th chuck says:

great 2nd half adjustments by the o . finally getting some 3 and outs for the d. I stand corrected

  206. SteveLargent80 says:

Jimmy G benched. This might be the statement win we’ve been looking for

  207. Pran says:

Nick Mullens vs Defense.. here we go

  208. Sea Mode says:

*Can you win a game in the first 3 quarters…?!”

  209. Volume12 says:

Great play from their DB. DK had him beat

  210. Jeffrey D Graham says:

God I have no reason to still be this nervous. Game has been so fun so far though.

  211. Simo says:

Through three quarters SF genius coach has been taken back to school. Keep it up Pete!

  212. Rob Staton says:

Do not let Nick Mullens come in here and get an easy score.

    Foot on the pedal. 0-0.

    • cha says:

      Exactly. Don’t give them hope.

    • Denver Hawker says:

Ironically, this might be a situation where I’m okay with one of those slow burning drives. We can’t kill clock to save our lives, might as well let the other team do it.

  213. James Kupihea says:

Well…crap now they have a real QB.

  214. Lewis says:

9ers offense had 117 yards in three quarters. Their O looked great last week.

  215. Troy says:

Defense has been amazing this game. If we end up keeping the niners under 20 that would be quite the feat for them.

  216. downtownjewelrybryan says:

has there been a sullivan sighting yet?

  217. SoCal12 says:

Bobby legit our best pass rusher lol

  218. Volume12 says:

IDK how Dunbar or Neal didnt come away w/ a pick

  219. SteveLargent80 says:

Is it just me, or have the blitzes been good today? All of them seem to be getting home, and Bobby in particular has impressed

  220. Sea Mode says:

Nice touch with our Super Bowl picture up in the box behind John Lynch…

  221. Tony says:

Kittle is there carson. Great player. Always knicked up.

  222. Sea Mode says:

Wow, and SF gonna limp into Thursday Night Football

  223. Rob Staton says:

    That TD is annoying.

Far too easy against a backup.

  224. Pran says:

That’s Seattle D.. half decent QB under pressure, score a TD

  225. Tony says:

I had a feeling a backup would do this. I fully expect 30 to 22 with 5 mins left and our ball.

  226. cha says:

Need an 8 minute TD drive so Rob can get started on his writeup and get to bed at a decent hour.

  227. Troy says:

Just need to milk the clock and get a few first downs to put this out of reach, come on Wilson

  228. Sea Mode says:

*In my best hockey announcer voice*: “a fight has broken out!”

    https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/1323042986704470020

  229. Tony says:

    I miss carson.

  230. Noah Parker says:

    A comfortable win?

  231. Rob Staton says:

Can we please not do this.

  232. Tony says:

    Dang.

  233. cha says:

Again, how is that not the defender leading with his head on DK???

  234. Rob Staton says:

    Oh for crying out loud

  235. cha says:

I’m begging you guys. I’m begging you.

  236. Pran says:

Worse D .. Jimmy was our savior

  237. Tony says:

Every seattle fan: its happening again.

  238. Rob Staton says:

    Absolutely embarrassing

  239. Rob Staton says:

Mullens has 157 yards in a quarter.

  240. Leonardo says:

Of the many embarrassing drives we’ve conceded this year, this is the worst. A masterclass in doing everything possible wrong.

  241. Tony says:

    Down! No good! Overturn that!!!!

  242. Troy says:

Absolutely pathetic how no lead is safe with this team just truly sad

  243. Pran says:

Just fire Ken right away.. if Mullens played all game this is a loss

  244. Sea Mode says:

Whew, still gonna be a 2 score game

  245. downtownjewelrybryan says:

    pete needs his fix

  246. Sea Mode says:

Good awareness by Dunbar to touch. Y’all remember when Griffen played like it was college ball and wouldn’t touch WRs down?

P.S. Maybe we should put in Geno Smith as our answer to Nick Mullens…

  247. Tony says:

    Stop going out!

  248. SteveLargent80 says:

Onside kick attempt failed, PLEASE pick up a first down here Russ

  249. Sea Mode says:

    Just. Go. Down. FFS

  250. Michael Dinn says:

I do not understand why or how this team always makes backups look like Gods. Why don’t they just punch them in the mouth and take away the intermediate stuff and challenge Mullens to make deep throws. It is so frustrating to watch this garbage when they had been playing such a complete defensive game to that point!!!

  251. cha says:

    Play smart Russ.

  252. SteveLargent80 says:

Can’t seem to get tackled in bounds

  253. Volume12 says:

If they called Alton earlier on that BS call, same thing here. TY

  254. SteveLargent80 says:

Now that’s how you react when your QB gets laid out

  255. Volume12 says:

Loved seeing DK & Moore having their guys (Russ) back.

  256. Troy says:

    Game over after that penalty

  257. JC3 says:

9ers really miss Buckner in the middle, bad trade.

    • Troy says:

I think they miss Bosa the most, Bosa would have given our line fits this game…we are lucky he is out foe the season

  258. James P Kupihea says:

Okay DJ, okay. we see you.

  259. cha says:

    TOUCHDOWN!

  260. Troy says:

A semi-comfortable win over a division opponent? Fuck ya!

  261. James P Kupihea says:

Emblematic of what the SF 49ers have done today..

Falling down has never been painted so wonderfully.

  262. Tony says:

A quality complete win. Best game of season on all 3 phases. Not perfect. But i see improvement. Happy with results. Gained ground in nfc. Best case scenario today.

    • Volume12 says:

100%. Other than a couple late TDs, I don’t see much to be down on.

      • Tony says:

Exactly. If we flipped the script and switched sides, no one would be happy coming back down 23 to lose by 10. We’d be lamenting the garbage time stats that make our loss look less ugly. Comfortable win, not without some issues. But this was a cleaner win across the board.

        • Volume12 says:

Good point. Looks like they figured some things out defensively. Getting Adams & Dunlap in there will be huge. Brooks is coming along nicely too.

  263. Pran says:

Thanks Mullens for exposing real D.

    • pdway says:

It’s a kneel down win against a division rival. It’s the NFC West, you’re not going to blow teams out by 20+ points every week.

nothing wrong w the overall game today.

  264. Rokas says:

Can’t help myself but wonder what the game turned out to be if they started freakin Mullens

    • Sea Mode says:

      😬

    • AlaskaHawk says:

Seahawks would have been blitzing alot more. This is all prevent defense issues.

      • Rokas says:

I will take a 10 point win against 49ers every time, but 250 yards conceided to Kittless Deebless Mullens in 20 minutes of football makes me puke. What is the point of such prevent defense if it takes 3 minutes to go march down the Centurylink field and score easy TD 3 times in a row?
Russ was almost had a concussion twice. It does not has to be this way, i celebrate the win, but this defense did not make me worry less. I can only hope to see more DJ Reed instead of Flowers when Shaq comes back. And Dunlop needs to be practicing as soon as tomorrow.

    • Steven says:

We’ll see the next time we play them.

  265. Trevor says:

    Huge win!

  266. pdway says:

That’s a quality win. Loved the defensive playcalling through 3 quarters – Garrapolo is the Niners albatross. They had way better rhthym once Mullens came in – though we did also call of the dogs to a degree.

I realize they are banged up, but they are coming wins over the Rams and the Pats – and we basically gave them a beatdown today, without the help of guys who will be back: Carson, Adams, Griffen, Amadi – and Dunlap too.

    Niners aren’t contenders this year.

  267. Scot04 says:

Huge win. Hopefully they add more to the defense before the trade deadline. The team deserves it. Wasn’t expecting a fairly comfortable win. Nice to enjoy the last 3minutes just relaxing and enjoying the win..

  268. 12th chuck says:

I hope DK doesn’t get a reputation for d.b’s to be able to get into his head. Glad to see him stand up for Russ
