Updated horizontal board 28/04

If you missed it earlier, check out the latest podcast which has a lot of sourced news in it. Also, you can view my final mock draft (posted last night) by clicking here.

Here’s my final horizontal board for draft day. I haven’t watched every player in the draft, obviously, but these are the players I have spent considerable time studying over the last few months.

Red font is injury question players, Gold highlights are Seahawky types, yes?

    • Rob Staton

Gold is more just players I’ve enjoyed

  2. TomLPDX

    Awesome!

  3. Russ

I think Gold are players Rob likes?

Penning isn’t gold, but is very Seahawky

    • Rob Staton

      Correct

  4. glor

And with the 9th pick of the 2022 NFL draft the Seattle Seahawks select Zachary Thomas – OT San Diego State.

    And the Media goes… who?

While this is the most likely scenario, I sure as hell hope the Hawks get their crap together this year and don’t get cute.

    • Mark

This is their second chance to make the same mistake again.

    • Justaguy

I hope I don’t have to turn the feed off in anger after the 9th pick of the draft

  5. Brett in AZ

    Outstanding Rob. Again!

  6. JD

Awesome! This is so helpful. Are we going to see the tier’s visuals as well before the draft? I always love those.

    • Rob Staton

That pretty much breaks down the tiers really — R1, R1-2, R2, etc

  7. Robert Las Vegas

Draft Day and the Rock says FINALLY!!!! anyway it’s like Christmas day and hopefully the Seahawks score major. Hopefully. I look forward for the next three days. Thank you Rob for all your hard work and effort.

  8. Huggie Hawk

“Football Gods, grant me the serenity to accept the Hawk draft picks I cannot change…”

Well done again Rob, outstanding content… here we go!

  9. HawkFanGA

If the Hawks stay at #9, please give me Thibodeaux, Johnson or Stingley.

    • Roy Batty

I’m praying for a QB and receiver to go in the top 10.

That way, they have no excuse when one of; Stingley, Johnson, KT or Neal is staring at them at 9.

All are immediate starters in positions of need. No extra 3rd rounder is that kind of sure thing. Foundational players you’ve locked up for 5 years.

  10. HawkFanGA

Rob…I’m reading that Evan Neal may slide due to medical concerns. Do you think Seattle should select him if he makes it to our pick?

    • Rob Staton

I’d recommend listening to the pod

      • HawkFanGA

Just did (I couldn’t listen at work). Thank you!

  11. Big Mike

Of your 11 guys with pure first round grades, 4 of them could be had after a trade down. Of those 4, Zion easily is the greatest position of need for Seattle (the other 3 are DTs). While I think one of those 7 “pure” 1st rounders will be there at pick 9, if that isn’t the case trade down and then draft Zion. In that scenario. you’ve garnered extra picks (or if you prefer, worked the board in your favor) and still been able to pick a great player at a position of need AND one that fits your preferred approach of run the ball first.
It all seems so simple to me. Of course it would be even simpler without the gaping chasms at the offensive Tackle position. None the less, Lucas or Smith could still be there at 40/41 or you could trade up a bit to grab one if and when the other goes off the board. Again, seems simple and smart to me.

  12. Erik

The draft simulator keeps proposing that KC offers their two late first round picks for #9. I wonder if that is at all likely?

Word out of Vegas is the Dallas Cowboys are working to trade up from the 24th pick.

    • Rob Staton

Sounds like a lot of teams trying to get up to select the small handful of blue chippers available

Man it’s a shame we’re about 3-4 spots too low here to get one of them

  14. no frickin clue

    Rob,

If the Niners manage to pry loose the #10 overall pick from the Jets by trading away Deebo Samuel, who would you hope they do NOT select, if available?

    • Rob Staton

Nobody really scares me to be honest

  15. Cawww

I may not be remembering correctly here, but I thought you had Neal listed as a G previously and kinda surprised to see him here as your top T. Is there anything in particular that has you thinking he’s more likely to stick at T now?

  16. Robert Las Vegas

Rob have you heard of medical concerns on Ikem Ekwonu? Maybe shoulder ? Number 9 pick is it possiblity.what is your thoughts on that

    • Rob Staton

      Where’s that from?

      • Rob Staton

OK, I’ve seen what you’re referring to.

I haven’t heard of any issues at all with him

  17. unHappy Hawk

Tonight is the real first step to a post R Wilson era in Seattle. We may know quickly how leadership views the current situation:

Playoff contender? Draft a Qb high and plug holes= run it back
Rebuild? Trade back and pick up more picks and build a new core group of BAMF young players
Tank? Trade back and get 2023 draft capital for a move up for an elite Qb of the future next year

    Should be revealing tonight

    • Russ

I like this perspective unHappy Hawk. No matter what we’re all about to learn something tonight. And that in and of itself is exciting.

      • Big Mike

I like it too tho I wouldn’t call it exciting unless it’s rebuild or tank, NOT supposed playoff contender.

    • Brett in AZ

      Very logical observation.

    • Peter

Good points. Though there is nothing to run back regardless of what pete says.

    Rob,

I know you’re live blogging and not live streaming, but would you please video tape your reaction to the pick/trade back at 9? Would love to see the unfiltered reaction.

    • Sea Mode

Ha. I think he has to kind of keep it quiet so as not to wake up the household (and neighbors, if it is that bad…) at 2am…

    • Rob Staton

I fear my reaction will disappoint you — I get VERY worked up during games but not so much for stuff like this.

I might do an immediate video reaction for YouTube.

      • Roy Batty

    Here’s to getting a game-wrecker — not a franchise-wrecker.

    • ShowMeYourHawk

Joke’s on you, friend. Jody Allen is already running the show….

      • STTBM

        Damn….and here I thought I was mean…

I’d settle for a shutdown corner or an Olineman not named Penning…but yeah, Thibs or Johnson would be badass….Seattle should trade up to 5-7 and get one if they are there, like they should have done most years since 2012…

      • Malanch

Ha! Yeah, probably so. Really, the apparent in-limbo status of the franchise is as fascinating to me as anything relating to team construction. I’ve rewatched the final pre-draft PCJS interview a couple times, and can’t help but wonder about the true nature of the Seahawks’ organizational alignment. Schneider talked about all the new faces shuffling into the VMAC of late, and I couldn’t help but think about those efficiency experts on Office Space: “What, would you say, you do here?”

  24. Tomas

Hoping for a good outcome tonight. Huge appreciation for Rob’s titanic efforts to inform us. Fingers crossed!

  25. Ukhawk

Key Fact to Know about Jermaine Johnson

Against Jacksonville State (FCS school) and Boston College (ranked 113th in pressure rate allowed), Johnson generated a 21.4% pressure rate 一 against everyone else: 10.8%.

From Sharp Football Analysis who has JK ranked 7th amongst pass rushers.

    • Sea Mode

Do they mention that at the Sr. Bowl, against some of the best players in college football, he dominated?

      • Peter

It’s like the chart where most of his sacks come between 2-3 seconds……checks notes….60% of all sacks in the nfl come betwen 2-3 seconds.

    • Lurker

Stats like this are interesting when they aren’t isolated. I think you need to do the same to all the other pass rushers in this draft and provide the entire context. Otherwise, this is a meaningless statistic.

  26. MountainHawker

Obviously not likely….but if there’s a run on QB and/or wr and the edges fall to us….who would you take from Walker, KT or Johnson? I’m leaning Walker but I love Johnson’s attitude and leadership.

    • Henry Taylor

KT is, and always has been, the top player in the draft for me.

      • Malanch

When it comes to performance under the bright lights, Thibodeaux is unquestionably the top player in the draft — did you see him on set yesterday? Brilliant! If only his on-camera savviness translated to the football field. . .

  27. Sea Mode

Something to kill the time and get excited about the draft. I really enjoy this series on YT. Maybe we’ll be the ones drafting a Jonathan Taylor this time around…

      OH NO

  30. Adog

Hawks trade back…to 15…or so….and select linebacker/ pass rusher Loyd. Draft B.raimenn and Juergens in the 2nd. Take the best QB available in the 3rd…my guess is Howell…and the best cb available in the 3rd.

  31. Burner

Cowboys and Eagles reportedly trying to move up.. Tony Pauline saying the Cowboys trying to move up and now this..

    Matt Miller
    @nfldraftscout
Sounds like the #Eagles are trying to fly up the board. #NFLdraft

Looks like we will be fielding a lot of offers at #9, I wouldn’t mind moving down if we can get another 2023 1st round pick, as long as Thibs and Stingley are off the board. We could be sitting in the sweet spot ahead of the Jets for those chasing WRs.

    • Peter

I would been Johnson, Stingley, thibs gone or I would hang up the phone.

  32. DJ 1/2 way

Here is an insight/strange realization. I found myself slipping towards being more concerned with Rob being right than the Seahawks picking the right players. Only slipping. Here is a partial test. Do you want Penning in the first round or one of the elite edge players to slip and the Seahawks pick them?

Maybe Rob has hedged his bets? He is either right or happy. Is it like when a gambler bets against his favorite team. You win either way?

Let me clarify that any reader knows (or should know) that Rob would prefer to be wrong and have the Seahawks pick the right players. That bulletproof authenticity and unquestionable fandom is special. Many have acknowledged the excellent and abundant free content, but it is the Man and who he is that makes this site unique and highly enjoyable. Thanks Rob.

  34. Rob Staton

    Latest from Tony Pauline:

The Seahawks desperately want to trade down but sources tell me that the phone lines are not burning.

    • Peter

Tricky. Trade down reports. Or KT, Johnson reports.

      Or-

      BPA…..which is not Penning.

Get stuck at nine? There’s a half dozen players easy that add greater value to the team then a guy who may not stick at either tackle spot.

    • cha

      If they’re stuck at 9

Ecstatic: Any of the 4 DEs, Stingley, Neal

Satisfied: Gardner, Ekwonu, Zion, Jordan Davis

      Shrug: Cross, Penning

Sick: A QB or a WR

      • Peter

Add Wyatt and Lloyd to the “satisfied,” section for me.

        • MychestisBeastmode

That other website that is current leader on Huddle report didn’t even have Wyatt in the 1st. I was surprised. Something tells me there will be a number of surprises today.

          • Peter

Don’t they have us with Travon Walker at nine?

            • MychestisBeastmode

They have us taking Thibedoux at 9.

          • Peter

Even if he drops to til the second I still think he’s going to be a beast as an end in a 3-4, thus I’d take him when i could.

      • J

Jameson Williams would fit this offense like a glove. And be a ready replacement when we move on from Locket next year.

I know WR isn’t a real need but I’d rather get a stud WR than a average player somewhere else.

    • Henry Taylor

Hopefully it forces them to take a player worthy of #9 (ergo not Penning).

    • Jabroni-DC

When the other organization knows that you are ‘desperate’ it doesn’t necessarily help get a maximized or even fair return… unless they are too.

    • MychestisBeastmode

What if they like Mafe, Williams, or Barno later?

If they like Mafe, big if, they could conceivably acquire quite a few day 2 and 3 picks and still be in range to draft him in mid-to-late 1st. At least if someone is willing to give them a call.

    • SoCal12

      Hopium:
This means we’re staying at 9 and picking Thibs/JJ/Sauce/Stingley

      Copium:
This means we’re staying at 9 and reaching for a classic Seahawks headscratcher like Drake Jackson/Ridder/Random Tight End out of Small School State

      • DJ 1/2 way

That Copium list looks like a Nopeium list.

        • Peter

          Ridder at nine….smh…definite nope-ium

    • Scot04

I just hope they don’t take a below average offer just to be able to move down.
If you can’t get served out you just stay where you’re at.

    • KennyBadger

      Blessing in disguise?

      Renew my faith PCJS!

    • CojackTX

Just read the same article…sounds like one of the top pass rushers will be on the board for the taking if Tony’s feelings regarding the prior picks are right.

  35. Jabroni-DC

Rob are you going to start a new thread for the ‘live’ link tonight?

    Thanks for the passion bro!

      #SeahawksDraftClues #NFLDraft2022

      • Seahawkwalt

I think it means take a qb next year

      • CojackTX

I usually think the clues are BS, but this screams no QB this year.

      • Peter

        Ojabo?

Trade all the way out of the first?

Penning but we promise we’ll do better next year?

      • Burner

What the hell does that mean? 🙂

      • MychestisBeastmode

        Fucking Pickett.

      • Jabroni-DC

“Our pick is in!” is a true statement. It’s Jamal Adams again with our native #10 pick.

        • Big Mike

          I yet again wept.

      • Sea Mode

Well, grasping at straws as always with these, but this is in the lyrics:

Run that route and make a play, so sick of sittin’ on the bench

Maybe could mean Jermaine Johnson, who was sick of not playing so he transferred…

        • Peter

Run that route? Trade down so someone can get a reciever

      • jed

Someone Seattle thinks really highly of, but is mediocre at best?

        • Peter

          Too funny.

      • DJ 1/2 way

I think it means they acquire as many picks for next year as possible. What do they get if they trade this years first for a next year first? With next years draft order undetermined I would think a lot of picks. I would do it for a next year first and a 2nd and 4th this year. I always seem to want to draft 4-5 2nd rounders every year.

    • KD

Never mind. He dropped one right as I was typing the above comment

      • 206

        Pete heard ya lol
