I’ve noted some of the highlights below.
There are some key things to remember. The Seahawks are quite strict in their ‘types’. And while some of these rules have been relaxed recently (such as heigh/length with cornerbacks) they are still relatively consistent with others.
For example, the magic number for arm length with defensive linemen is 33-inches. Anything below that and it’s an issue. Offensive linemen with great length (+34 inches) are clear tackle prospects. When you’re in that 33-inch range, it’s considered not ideal to play the edge.
They like their running backs in the 220lbs range with explosive testing numbers. Quarterback hand-size is important. Anything less than 9′ is a problem — anything in the 10′ range is very good.
Ideally you want your tight ends to have plus length for blocking duties. Generally that means +33 inches. However, the bigger factor at the position is agility testing when it comes to the Seahawks.

Good tackle size/length. A very positive set of measurements for Abraham Lucas. Remember he ran a 4.30 short shuttle at SPARQ and he’s capable of running sub-5.00 in the forty. He could be set for a big week and eventually a home in round one.
Arnold Ebiketie (DE)
Height: 6-2
Weight: 250
Arm Length: 34
Wingspan: 82 1/8
Hands: 10 4/8
Nice length for Ebiketie and this will please teams. His speed and quickness off the edge is incredible so showing off plus arm length and size will be a terrific start to his draft season. He has legit first round potential.
Bernhard Raimann (T)

Ideally his arms would be longer. It will give teams a slight pause. There are starting tackles with 33-inch arms but you’d prefer them to be in that 34/35-inch range. The key thing for Raimann is he’s explosive and has been tested jumping in the 9-8 range in the broad, plus he’s been timed at 1.56 in the 10-yard split. So not ideal length but still plenty of momentum behind him.

Perfectly good size and length here for Mafe who could be on Seattle’s radar if they’re looking for another quick, highly athletic and explosive edge rusher at #41.

Asamoah is a wonderfully put together, very athletic linebacker. These are solid ‘modern-day’ numbers for the position and his arm length stands-out in that it’ll help him work through traffic.

He’s highly-cut and some teams won’t like that but he has the ideal weight for the position and we all saw how explosive he was for Alabama this season.

I expected him to be taller and longer but the reality is CTB plays with his hair on fire. He’s tough, physical and at times brutal. The Seahawks miss having a cornerback like this.

He’s played inside and out but this is very much a more orthodox ‘edge’ set of measurements. Nothing special in terms of size/length so how he performs and combine testing will be key for Thomas.

With the way he throws the football with incredible velocity, I expected bigger hands. I think he has the best arm talent in the draft but his total lack of mobility is an issue.

The size to go with his playing style — all action, physical. He’s an impressive player who flies around the field and makes plays. Not ideal length but he does a good job in space.

He’s a little lighter than I thought he would be and doesn’t have great length but on tape Tindall is a joy — a true run-and-hit dynamo with great quickness and intensity. A future captain.

An ideal Seahawks frame to go with an ideal Seahawks running style. He is a Seahawk, basically, it’s just a case of whether they take him. I hope they do. He runs with violence, creates yards after contact and he sets the tone.

He looks like a Greek God on tape and these measurements are not unexpected. Terrific looking athlete. Tape a little inconsistent but it’s easy to imagine him at the next level.

Crazy numbers that’ll have Twitter talking away but the next player to succeed with these measurements will be the first. He’s intriguing and part of me would be interested to see how he gets on as a mauling right tackle. Yet how is he going to handle leverage at this height and weight?

Terrific measurements for Kinnard who is a good right tackle prospect. Nothing flashy about his tape but as a mid-round right tackle, you can do a lot worse. Testing will determine how high he goes. This is an intriguing week for him against some quality DE’s.

Big sigh of relief that Wyatt — who is extremely explosive, super-fast and a potential interior game-wrecker — has 33 inch arms. He would be a tremendous addition for Seattle. He will run in the 4.8’s. His tape is outstanding. They need someone like this. He could easily go in the top-25.

Kenny Pickett declined to get his hands measured? Seems like he might as well get it over with.
Feels like if “too short,” Wilson and Murray can overcome being a bunch of inches smaller than ideal to play, first round hopeful Pickett should het his grandmothers sewing kit out and measure his hands with a tailors tape and not wait for magic exercises to make him have QB sized hands.
They must have been covered in mayonaise.

He is. He is projected to be more of a LT than RT. I meant to say he’s better on the move. He’s nimble.
Not a scout, and just watched his tape against Ohio State. He dominated virtually every play, run or pass. His feet do not look like liability and has surprising agility given size. His frame and arm like are dominant. Looks like Velcro if and when he lays his hands on a defender via counters, bull, and speed rush. The arm length is so impressive it seems to mitigate “leverage” issues (not Rob’s words but used by other scouts I’ve read); which did not appear to be weakness during his matchup with whoever the buckeyes threw at him. He simply makes these opposing giant freaks of nature look like JV sized players. He imposes his will. It’s only one game, but I’m hooked. Go get him Seahawks!

Well, I’ve watched him, and his feet are cumbersome and he has great difficulty moving off the spot. George Karlaftis ran around him on a couple of plays like he was a statue — all he could do was hold and cling on for dear life. That worried me greatly. Any kind of speed rush is going to be a serious problem IMO.

Boye Mafe – 33 3/8″ arm length is pretty good, but I’m a little surprised they aren’t over 34″. His arms look that long.

I forget what measurements differ from Senior Bowl to combine, but check back after that.

Wyatt and Hall probable first rounders and my mind is set on their quality, therefore Winfrey and Mathis have me very intrigued for this.
My draft crus his completely on Mathis at this point. Wyatt and Hall are going to test really I think. Mathis at least is going to test ok or average so we might have a shot in the early 2nd. His hands and his length. He seems like a natural fit at 3T.

How many of Jim Nagy’s senior bowl players has John Schneider drafted? Seems like a bunch. It I remember correctly that resource of John Schneider’s seems to be relied on a bit too heavily and the results of it have been underwhelming.
Obviously that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value, that it shouldn’t be covered by you and that John shouldn’t draft players who played in the Senior Bowl. A lot of good and great Seahawks have played in the Senior Bowl (https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/gm-report/recent-history-suggests-seahawks-prioritize-senior-bowl-prospects) But love of guys like Collier cause of their Senior Bowl performance & praise from Jim Nagy has me side eyeing over reliance in it.
Nobody made Schneider and Carroll trade Frank Clark, get cute on draft day and have to reach for Collier — a player who didn’t fit their typical testing profile.
That was all on them.
JN also spoke glowingly about Creed Humphrey a year ago.
It’s up to the Seahawks to make right decisions. There’s no need to diminish JN’s opinion or the Senior Bowl.

When I watch Pierce, I see Frank Gore. It’s almost uncanny. Gore was probably a bit more sudden, but Pierce is probably a bit more physical (at least when Gore was coming out of college).

According to the Rob Staton football dictionary: noun. A player who exudes immense grit. A willingness to play til every whistle is blown. A player whose body language, playing style, and overall skill can shut down a play before it starts or spark a violent offensive series unto themselves. Often personified by the best player at their position though not always. In all instances a BAMF is a player that the opposing team will do anything possible to avoid. In the presence of a BAMF opposing players can be seen shrinking into a teeny tiny little ball to avoid a tackle, dropping easy passes for fear of getting blown up, or simply perform the “hold the door open for you,” style arm tackle as they know they have no real chance to stop such a player.
Currently Seattle has no BAMF’ers.
If you have 1-2 minutes of free time type into youtube: Cam britt taylor and watch one minute of his highlights. You’ll see a prime example of a BAMF as he very legally and as safe as it can be in football, ruins players and absolutely gets after it as a CB.
Great to see Pearce at 220. Everything I saw before had him around 210. He absolutely screams Seahawks. Do you take him at 41? Does he last into the third?
I think after the combine he’ll be a second rounder. But he might be there in the third.
I truly hope he’s there in the 3rd. A 2nd rounder on and our top pick on a RB feels rich given the other areas need – emphasize trenches.
I’m already digging around for other RB’s. Since I’m with you on picking the best trench player they can get and Pierce seems like a riser.
Really *enjoy* that in one of the lamest years for RB I can remember, Seattle needs one that is consistent in the worst way.

You’re a better person than me, Rob. First of all, this arbitrary analysis about QB cap hit and SB winners…SB winners *are* outliers. A much more interesting dialogue would be “what does cap spending and allocation look like for the last 4 teams in the playoffs?”

Oh and Rob…don’t forget – Jamal Adam’s Cap Hit doesn’t matter; only RW’s does. His money is different than everybody else’s.

Softy needs to look at roster construction. Just glanced at Rams vs. Hawks. Their top six players =107 million. Ours=109. The difference:

Wagner….these four make up the bulk of that 109 million then

Adams is hurt a lot and not a wins above replacement level player. And Wagner is slowing way down. Meanwhile the rams are spending a little less on six near stars ( when woods is healthy.) Pay russel less….so what, you’d still be dropping within 5 million into Wagner/Adams as the rams are paying aaron “best DT of his generation” donald and Ramsey.
Double check: with 7 million not five million.
The Rams cap management is just superb, even without the bad idea of adding void years as the Seahawks do (8m in 2022).
They have Stafford for 23m in 2022, and will eat up the cap of Ramsey and Floyd in that timeframe. Donald is a constant expense.
That’s how to do it.
And, btw… when we bang upon the current cap situation… we have no CBs and no LT on the roster. It will melt away, quickly. And we will see, if there are top FAs wanting to come to the career cemetery. I highly doubt it.
This team is so devoid of talent for the future that for the furst deaft in a long time I’m keeping a super open mind about prospects. Because I truly believe there are about five players on the team where there play is such that I wouldn’t bother looking for their replacement.

I once thought this way, and see it more obvious when teams make it with a rookie deal QB (which of course isn’t sustainable).
However, the Rams are paying over $45MM for QBs this year. There’s really not as much correlation as people want to believe.
The funny part…it’s a really interesting discussion if we are talking about the 4 teams in the conference championship. It’s just overly simplistic when analyzing an outlier, which is what a SB would qualify as.
I think it’s just one of those areas where analytics people lose it.

And I get everyone wants a clean explanation for why we suck; it’s just funny that RW’s $35M is the issue, not the $100M that was wasted on minimal impact. You see according to Softy, $110M would since our woes, if that extra $10M came exclusively from RW.

If pete brings us to the promised land he’ll be the true original in this since i already know expensive qb’s have won more than rookies with Brady being the contract outlier (yet still more of his rings are post a rookie contract thus less expensive, not cheap)

There is this weird thought process with this fanbase that ultimately, RW salary is responsible for bad FA signings and drafts. Of course…getting RW performance for much less would be amazing. But again, is this about money available? Or is this a superstition about QB pay needing to be X%?
There are so many variables that come into play that it is near impossible to come up with a clean formula. If these people want a simple explanation – your highly paid players need to earn their salary and your lesser paid players need outperform theirs. Ultimately, everything goes out the window when 1 game determines the SB winner.
Unfortunately, it all comes down to the fact, as a team the seahawks aren’t getting the worth from what they are paying out on ALL the top paid players. Is it all on Wilson? nope,
I think part of the whole “high-paid QBs can’t win thing” is that a great QB can cover up so many of a team’s shortcomings that get exposed in the playoffs. Ultimately the team’s downfall is bad personnel acquisition through drafting and FA.

Perrion Winfrey, Abraham Lucas, and Dameon Pierce in a draft and I would be ecstatic. They all seem to be perfect fits for what we were missing on last years roster.
Inside rusher with freaky potential, underrated tackle with elite size and local roots, and the most creative runner I have seen in college football. Luckily limited snaps and exposure may allow the Hawks to be within in striking distance of all 3 at a good value. Fingers crossed…

I doubt Lucas is there at 41. A player with his profile and strengths — some team is going to draft him in the first thinking he’s going to be a LT of the future. He is a really good RT right now and LT would not be out of the question with some development. All of the OTs that are fringe 1st/2nd rounders will ultimately end in the first I’m afraid.
Perrion Winfrey is still extremely raw. He does have freakish ability but I like Phildarian Mathis more. Mathis does everything better and still is a pretty good athlete with length. Winfrey looks like Tarzan but will he play like Jane?
Dameon Pierce, I’m afraid he goes in the 2nd round like Rob mentioned. If it comes down to Mathis or a good OT, I’m not taking Pierce. Bummer to lose him but he probably goes higher than what we can afford. If he’s there in the early 3rd and then we do need to consider him. I’ll be willing to do a 3rd for him but also don’t want to give up a good LB. That position is deep though.

Definitely not guard. They don’t have the luxury of doing that — plus the options simply aren’t there to take a guard early.
Rob, hope you are over the hump with Covid and your family is well. Do you think there will be better value at OT, DT, DE, or LB at pick 41? I really want the Hawks to address IL or DL, but if the value is LB I wouldn’t be surprised if they picked another LB.

Texas Tech OC Dawson Deaton has short arms but will be available later in the draft and could be an option…good pass blocker and smart, but run blocking needs work. 6’6″ 305 so good sized other than the arms.
Perdue RB/FB Zander Horvath is a freak! 6’1″ 232…would love to see the Seahawks add a FB like him! Give Russ that backfield protector and outlet when things break down. Defense will think twice about sending a CB on a blitz into him, haha!
The always worthy Joe Fann will be appearing every Tuesday at 8am on 710 AM. Though it’s with Salk, I believe we can count on Joe to hold his own.

Have you looked at either of these LB’s at all:
Leo Chenal, Wisconsin – 6’2″ 255 lb thumper and I’ve read some interesting things about him, like he is a fantastic blitzer and has a really high football IQ. Might not fit what the Seahawks need, but he is a different type of player. There are a few analyst’s who believe he will be an impact player in the NFL…
Jeremiah Gemmel, UNC – Small at 6’1″ 225 but fits today’s NFL LB more, was the leader of the UNC defense and is just a playmaking machine! Can cover a lot of ground and is a really smart player.
Another LB prospect who flies under the radar is Troy Anderson, Montana State. That dude is a RB convert, and he will let it fly at Senior Bowl.
Joe Fann not holding back talking about poor record of Hawks’ drafting and trades, including Adams miss. Rams trade strategy worked for them because they acquired the right players. Brief appearance, but refreshing to hear true insight on the Mike Salk show.
I’m not willing to say the light is coming on for Salk, but he’s inched closer to truth in the last couple weeks from what I’ve read.
He’s consistently talked about the pass rush needing to be better.
He’s slowed his roll on this whole “RW is the problem/needs to quit complaining and play Pete’s Way” shtick.
And he’s done (in my eyes) the “tell us Pete Carroll is the problem without saying out loud Pete Carroll is the problem” thing lately:
-He’s pointed out that the way playoff teams like the Niners and Titans play, with tough, physical defense with a commitment to running the ball is Pete Carroll’s vision for his team but they haven’t acquired the pieces to run that
-He’s also pointed out that the Seahawks have star players on their roster now but haven’t correctly utilized them

I might suggest that this new Mike Salk enlightenment is because he’s not interviewing Pete Carroll every week. Perhaps a gig in season, that his job might rely on?

RE: LB’s in the coming draft.
Did anyone else watch the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl game this year? It seems odd to me that this player isn’t found on any big boards or -anywhere- in the rankings. After watching the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl game (Utah St vs: Oregon St), I was excited to look into this guy – a DE/LB that was the games defensive MVP, after he had 5-TFL’s & 3-Sacks in this game. He “dominated” & now, he’s nowhere to be found in the various media rankings. (??) If this was a “character issue” I could understand that, but there is no evidence of that online that I can find, so maybe he’s just completely “overlooked”? There are many LB’s in the rankings in the 200-500+ range, most LB’s in these ranges were backups with much lesser stats, injury concerns, etc. and yet Heninger isn’t even listed anywhere?

2021: 75-tkls, 21.5-TFL, 9-sacks, 5-PD, 5-FF, 2-QBH, 1-FR. His 21.5-TFL’s is #3 in FBS. (#2 is LB-Devin Lloyd from Utah with 22.) Being unranked with these excellent #’s is very odd to me.
I’d second him as a lesser-known name to watch for later rounds, though I’m not sure if he will be seen as a LB or a DE. As a Beaver fan watching the game, I was getting a bit annoyed at how he always seemed to pop up (especially in the backfield) when Oregon State needed to get into a groove.
Another name on my list is Troy Andersen from my alma mater, Montana State (true, our best pro player has been a kicker). He didn’t have a great game against NDSU in the FCS championship, but I thought he had a great season and showed good awareness and leadership overseeing a solid defense. I wonder what he could have done if he hadn’t played RB, FB, and QB earlier in college.

I know it does not add up to much, but the measurables for Cam Taylor Britt and Greg Dulcich, align very nicely with the measurables of Earl Thomas and George Kittle respectively at the same point in their careers!
A favourite Stat for me for Tight Ends is Av Yards per Reception. I think anything over 15 at college level shows the player has the juice to get downfield for first downs. Greg Dulcich is comfortable past this measure in his last 2 seasons on 68 total receptions. I like him.
Much is made of the point, the next Defensive Co Ordinator needs to have a good idea of how to use Jamal Adams effectively. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that perhaps Jamal Adams might be most effectively used only on passing downs at the line of scrummage, where he can have a free role to blitz regularly or cover shallow routes from Tight Ends. I’m not sure his body is up to coming downhill on run defence anymore? It’d be a brave (but perhaps correct) co ordinator to leave Jamal Adams off the field for up to 60% of the time?

The Seahawks have been a highly successful franchise for the better part of two decades now. Surpassed by the Patriots and on par with the likes of the Steelers and Ravens over that period of time. World class facilities, pay the bills, stay out of the way of football people making football decisions and don’t appear to meddle.

Jordan, clearly his issue is with the modern day version of Vulcan which has lost its leader and remains a complete mystery to everyone. Nobody knows what its intentions are, how long it intends on retaining this team or the Trailblazers, whether it is fit for purpose in its current guise.
Concerns are completely justified at this point.

While there are many many concerns and questions regarding Vulcan and Jody Allen, it is fair to also acknowledge it could be worse. Neither the Seahawks or Blazers have had budget cuts or issues and by the sounds of it both organizations are willing to spend in order to contend. The real issue is how Vulcan evaluates and hold people within both franchises accountable. If they are willing to make the tough choices and replace people when it is warranted (which there are good arguments for that with the Seahawks and they have done so with the Blazers) as well as spend the money necessary I see no issue with Vulcan handing the team for as long as necessary. We do need to remember, for every Paul Allen there are McNairs, Kahns and Jones and if/when the team is sold there is a chance we end up with bad owner. So while its fair to question ownership on their lack of accountability, I would also caution people to be careful what they wish for.
There are not good arguments for that with the Seahawks.
To me all you’ve done here is given an extremely favourable benefit of the doubt.

I’m not so sure. Unless he test off the charts there maybe a bit of a tweener concern about him, especially as a first pick, he’s about 20kg lighter than both Armstead and Bucknor coming out. Don’t get me wrong I like him and would be a great pick for the Seahawks, but he may be in our range, maybe with an early day two trade?

You know, I’d typically agree. However, the one thing you could previously credit Pete with was making odd choices, for gain or ill. It’s a class action. Technically not “his” money but rather money for any parties deemed affected by the claims made in the lawsuit – which could be any black or minority person coaching in the NFL (emphasize could be – as the scope of involvement and who qualifies for payout in case of favorable ruling are TBD, but certainly not only Flores).
If Dan Snyder hasn’t had more than a slap on the wrist for what I guarantee is a serial sexual harrasment work environment, I’ll believe this gets big when I see it. Owners take care of each other first and foremost.
