Today I had the great pleasure of interviewing Seahawks defensive tackle Shelby Harris. You are going to love listening to him speak.
Don’t forget to check out yesterday’s interview with Kaleb Eleby too or last weeks conversation with Mike Florio.

Haha. Love it!
Heck yeah! These interviews have been must listen!
You’re on fire Rob. Absolutely spoiling us with these interviews!
mic drop emoji… awesome
Great interview, really cool to hear his perspective on things
FYI — tomorrow I will be on 710 with Jake & Stacy
Killing it.. what a off season!!! Good luck
Interview with current player is just amazing
gobsmacking volume and velocity of quality content Rob.
You’re probably already written 2000 words on this, but any thoughts about what Harris said about the MLB in the new scheme?
Confirmed to me that they’ll probably take a LB in R2
I figured. That made for a great interview, a nice mix of personal expressions and scheme insight.
Well done.
So many good LBs- slight concern about a run on them in the late 30’s though.
Legitimately could happen
Yep–he’s my new favorite Seahawk. Thanks, Rob!
Added Ridder.

I’m not sure we can include the Winfrey one. Saying it at the combine is very early. Did he say he’d spoken to them, or was going to speak to them? Or did he confirm an official 30 visit? Because those visits only really get set up now
Anyone know a link to Winfrey Pro Day results?
He pulled him hamstring on his first 40 at the Combine, and so didn’t so any testing there or at Oklahoma pro day.
Okay, thanks.
Maybe you could DM Corbin and see if that was what he meant. Definitely a huge question mark there for now.

But he does have incredible length for an interior guy, so maybe they were interested from the get-go in bringing him for a visit.
DT Al Woods has 36-inch arm length.
DE/DT Shelby Harris has 34 5/8-inch arm length.
DE/DT Perrion Winfrey has 35 1/4-inch arm length.
So, we all know from prior Seahawks profiles, they like their players with a certain arm length.
I tried to push against the arm length at OLB, just because I thought we would be discarding too many rush OLB off our board. Maybe arm length is not something Pete is willing to overlook in the first two rounds.
Amazing work Rob!
Heaps hypes Ridder
https://sports.mynorthwest.com/1602576/heaps-desmond-ridder-best-fit-seahawks-drafts-qbs/
Brian cook is the smokescreen between gardner and ridder.
My position has never changed on Ridder.
His accuracy is simply too erratic. He misses too many basic throws — not slight misses. I’m talking about ‘that’s easy, WTF happened?’
He can go a whole quarter looking like absolute trash.
But then he also has some of the prettiest throws you’ll see in a season.
I would be shocked — truly shocked — if the Seahawks think, ‘yes — this is the future for us’.
“He can go a whole quarter looking like absolute trash.
But then he also has some of the prettiest throws you’ll see in a season.”
Yikes, yeah… the Hawks just moved on from that wild variance at the QB spot.
I really like Jake and tend to agree with most of his arguments he leans into. Except this opinion on Ridder or QB prospects in general…
His take on Ridder…“Because he’s a winner, first and foremost,” Football is a team sport, your best 22 vs our best 22, Not Wilson vs Payton Manning as if they are playing each other one-on-one.
The epitome of a team player.
“There’s enough money in this league for everyone to get paid. There’s enough plays on that field for everyone to make plays, just take advantage of your plays. As long as you have that mindset that everybody eats, everybody eats, then we’ll be successful. As long as we’re in it for everyone and not just ourselves, no matter what the record is you’ll have fun.”
No wonder they already miss him in Denver.
He will defiantly be a good addition to the d-line room. He should be a great mentor to the defensive lineman that we get in the next few drafts.
Such a great interview. Feel for hom going part time with his family for the season. Hopfelly he can continue to stay upbeat along the way.
But he’s doing it for the right reasons. Family first and foremost. Really think I’m going to like this fella. Fant too (and maybe Lock as well!)
Rob!! The seahawks posted video of this interview on their ig!
I think it’s probably the team press conference he did instead
I feel like the Hawks have some quality leaders on the defensive side of the ball with Harris, Woods and Diggs. Now add some fast aggressive young guys and they could fix this defense quickly.
If they were to add Stingley, Tindall and Sam Williams in rounds 1-2 they could be a top 10 unit on that side of the ball.
I don’t disagree but the coaching could be just as big if not a bigger difference over last year.
Last year was an exercise in mismatches. And not ones in Seattle’s favor.
I could not agree more. I will admit being excited about the new scheme. Last year was painful to watch.
Most systems are crap if the players suck. At least we have Jamal.
championship
Just a reminder that Stingley’s Pro Day is tomorrow. I look forward to seeing how he does.
Awesome work Rob. Getting to hear you speak with a current player was a pleasure. Shelby is extremely likable, thoughtful and genuine.

Hey, check out #10.
No idea if this has been posted before.
Thanks for posting this. Pretty impressive list. Daniel Jeremiah checking in somewhere in the 90s…
This is why people need to lay off the arguing themselves blue when Rob starts talking about a guy falling.
Additionally why I dread who rob starts talking about for the seahawks last right before the draft. James carpenter, ifedi, paul richardson…..probably others. Because he’s become a bit prescient and I have not liked his accuracy😀
*cough* side banner *cough*
Good stuff Rob.
Was wondering if you had any thoughts on linebacker Troy Anderson from Montana State as a potential second round pick for Seattle. Seems to have rare athletic traits but never watched the tape and I think he mainly played offense in college (mainly due to going to a small school and being the best athlete on the team by a mile)
I think he’s a day two lock it’s just a case of how high? Nice alternative to the names we’ve discussed for sure
Three hours in:
Official Seahawks Shelby Harris interview: 454 views
Rebuild Shelby Harris interview: 467 views
Suck it, Seattle media.
Nice. Seahawks fans following seahawks media…..shelby harris who?
Rebuild/sdb fans….is Harris the best aquisition they made this offseason? Let’s discuss.
So Rob, first of all.. an outstanding interview, kudos all around as usual, but correct me if I’m wrong, for the 3-4 “Fangio style” defense, the keys are, according to…
-Clint Hurtt, a “game wrecker” on the D-Line
-Pete, another body like Darrell Taylor rushing off the edge
-Jim Leavitt, CBs are extremely important, they need to be able to stay with their guy
-Shelby Harris, the MLB has the most pressure on them.. needs to be able to hit the hole and cover in space
Is there a position that has not been listed as critical for this defense yet? Oh yeah, right. Safety.
Cheers!
OMG
I was thinking this, but I could not put it so eloquently.
Hahahahaha! This had me rolling with laughter!

Anyone have Athletic subscription to see if there are any interesting quotes to post?
https://theathletic.com/3223899/2022/04/04/bruce-feldmans-2022-nfl-mock-draft-what-sources-say-about-matt-corral-travon-walker-devin-lloyd-and-others/
I read it yesterday. Not really.
He has Seattle taking Stingley.
Better than Michael-Shawn taking Cross and a trade up to 30 for Ridder.
I read that one and there are some good quotes for sure. I struggled with the actual mock though – Devin Lloyd @ 5 to the NYG??? Here are quotes on some players :
Sauce Gardner – “I thought he was the best player we played against last year. He completely shut down that side of the field. We came in thinking, ‘We’re gonna go after him.’ We got off that idea real quick. He jammed our guy into the sideline. Then, on a shallow, he’s playing the drill with our quarterback. He’s getting beat, but then he closes and picks it off. He’s really savvy, really long.”
Stingley (Sea picks him at 9 in this mock) – “He’s almost like a wide receiver playing DB. His ball skills and the way he made plays on the ball are rare. It’s one thing for a defensive back to get in position, but his body control and the adjustments he could make in mid-air, this dude is different. He looked like a seasoned vet as a true freshman.”
Jermaine Johnson – “He’s still pretty raw and wasn’t that great with his hands, but he’s explosive and really active. He looks like he can also get a lot bigger.”
“He’s a skilled pass rusher. He’s tough, physical and also played the run well. He was a menace. I don’t think he’s freaky athletic, but he’s a really good football player.”
Trevor Penning – “He’s a real beast. Powerful. Plays with an edge. He just abused D-linemen at that level. This guy is a nasty prick. I’d love him on my team.”
“(He) has really impressive physicality, especially with how he finishes. He’s nasty. He also has position flexibility; he can probably play all five positions along the line. I think he bends and runs really well for his size. (I) also thought he improved in pass protection dramatically the last two years. He did struggle some with movement and stunts against dynamic edges. He’s still over-aggressive in pass pro at times. Guys can bull rush him to set up counter moves off of power moves.”
Kyler Gordon – “I was really impressed with both (Washington) corners. They were competitive and really athletic and tough. I think Gordon is a little better, but they’re both first-round talents.”
Tyler Linderbaum – “Wow. He’s unbelievable. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one move better. He can sink his hips and get on people and doesn’t give you a chance to react. He is by far the most athletic I’ve seen in a long, long time in the Big Ten. I think he’s going to be like Jeff Saturday, where he plays in the NFL for a long time at a high level.”
“I think he’ll be a good pro, but he’s a little undersized. How will he do against a huge nose guard in the NFL when you cover him up? If you don’t cover him, he’s a problem because he’s athletic enough to get on your backers. He will struggle against an odd defense vs. a four-down front. He does play with good leverage and is good on scoop blocks, but he’s not gonna maul a bigger guy.”
Matt Corral – “His mindset is different — he’s like a middle linebacker playing quarterback. This is a football-playing joker. He’s not fazed by anything. He thinks he can make every throw, and honestly, he can.”
Desmond Ridder – “I think he’ll struggle in the NFL. He’s tough as nails; that impressed me the most. He took hits — he’s got that wiry toughness, and he was a great system fit there, but I just don’t think he’s accurate enough.”
Amazing interview Rob, thanks for all the outstanding content.
The portion that surprised me most was Shelby’s confidence in Drew Lock. He immediately brought him up when given the open ended question. I’m really not sure what to make of it but has me thinking that Seattle may legitimately give him a chance to start this year. Even before Shelby’s praise, I preferred Lock to watching Geno Smith again, now that thought has been solidified.
Rob, the Shelby interview was lights out! Thank you so much for feeding us all this marvelous content day in and day out!
Thank you
