A conference call with Utah’s Kyle Whittingham

April 21st, 2020 | Written by Rob Staton

I have a big post coming shortly, a 2020 Seahawks draft guide. In the meantime I wanted to post this latest video. I was part of a conference call with Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham today as he talked about some of the draft prospects from his program. Check it out below…

Plus if you’re wondering why I mocked Robert Hunt to the Seahawks with their first pick in Sunday’s seven round projection — watch the video below. Grit and beating the odds isn’t the only reason. He’s a fantastic, physical, tone-setting blocker. Yet we know how much the Seahawks value conquering adversity.

Really like Hunt – only concern is his age.

Really amazing work this draft season, Rob. You’ve really outdone yourself with both the quantity and quality of content.

    Cheers.

Dammit. Just when i decided that I’d rather have I. Wilson over Hunt i watch this. So many good OL this year. Back to the drawing board. Love Whittingham. Awesome coach and appreciate the love he gives his players. Another Great interview Rob. Thanks!

Also, ESPN reports Pats working on a deal to trade Gronk to the Tampa Bay Bradys!? Guys Arians better work on getting the TE involved

    Wait, what?

Trade, pending physical: Patriots are trading TE Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers for a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN.

Vince McMahon gets sued by his former football commissioner and loses his 24/7 champion all at once. Tough day for such a good guy.

😂 I love that clip. My favorite is the way his feet patter when he ‘tries’ to turn a corner.

    • cha says:

Yup. Very similar to Lynch to the Raiders.

Does that mean OJ Howard is available for a handshake and a smile?

      • Probably, to bad we have 47 TE’s on our team.

      • Von says:

I’d think that the Pats would’ve asked for Howard in the trade. It may show that the Bucs value him more than a 4th round pick.

      • Ben says:

If they’re smart they’ll keep all three Brate, Gronk, and Howard. Lotta mouths, but Gronk was a shell his last year, and if they expect him to be a starter I’d be surprised. Gotta think he’ll be most effective around 20-30 snaps a game, and miss a couple.

That said, send Howard our way for a 4th!

      • cha says:

        At the moment, no.

Buccaneers now are poised to have three notable tight ends – Rob Gronkowski, OJ Howard and Cameron Brate – on their roster.
Two days before the draft, they do not have any pending trade for Howard.

  4. Mexican Hawk says:

Rob looking forward to the guide and the contest. Thanks for both and thank you to David for organizing. My eight year old son is looking forward to competing.

Not sure if you all caught Colin Cowherd’s top 10 NFL players list from his show today. He has Russ @ 1. Also interviews him a bit later. The guy does not have that mean streak that they talk about with Jordan, but the relentlessness is there for both. Russ goes into that at the end. Having a vision, a plan, putting in the work. Reaping rewards later. Enjoying the work.

This blog by you is similar, a lot of sweat over the years. It’s getting better and better. Spoils you are getting are the result of all the effort over the years. I see a continuation of that down the line and into the future.

Y’all gotta stop calling me ‘David’ unless I’m in trouble…
Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall… “You blew my cover!!!”

      Your son will probably win!

      • Rob Staton says:

I wish they still made films like Total Recall.

        And the original Predator.

        And Terminator 2.

        Those were the days.

      • Horacio Fernandez says:

        DC it is!!

        Best of luck!

He’s working on familiarizing himself with the later picks (son), doing lots of mocks on PFF and PFN.

We were wondering how many hits winner of contest might have, I would say 5 at the max? Last year I don’t think i would have hit even two of them.

        Vaya con Dios!

  5. Gohawks5151 says:

Dante Fowler on NFL live. Said that Atlanta was where he wanted to be from early on. From that area of the country. Has a great relationship with Quinn who recruited him to UF. Used to the scheme. It just goes to show you that yes Seattle has a great culture and yes they have a good reputation in the league but also not all players want to come here. This pass rush issue of ours probably had less options than it seemed which makes the inability (so far) to get Clowney back so much worse.

    • You cant have everyone. You see these matches and its basically over for other teams unless someone blows away with an offer. This one seemed destined from the start.

    Sold. Get Hunt now.

Also checked his twitter since the video link was broken, any thoughts on Michael Jacquet?? anyone heard of him? apparently the Seahawks have been calling him, a converted CB from WR and teammate of Hunt’s with an 82 1/8″ WINGSPAN!!! holy crap. maybe a UDFA option??

Also as much as I want Seattle to get Raekwon Davis, I am preparing myself for him going to the 49ers in the very early 2nd round after they trade down from pick 31. I’d be fine if we traded down and grabbed Hunt first.

  8. Shamblin_Mound says:

These interviews are absolutely top notch Rob. Amik Robertson is exactly the kind of personality I want to see on this team, one can only imagine how many packs of gum Pete burned through during/after a conversation with him.

This week is going to be crazy and I am 100% here for it. Between the lack of entertainment elsewhere, the likelihood of tech-induced chaos with an online draft, the precarious situation the Seahawks are currently in with their roster, and the fact that I’m drinking way too much coffee these days, my hands are shaking and my stomach aches with excitement.

    • Rob Staton says:

Thanks. It is an exciting week. I just hope the Seahawks can take a step forward. Because this hasn’t been a productive off-season so far.

  9. Jackson says:

Hunt has a great backstory, no doubt about that, but I really wish we would stop reaching for players simply because they have a compelling personal narrative. There are many OL prospects with better traits and higher ceilings in this draft.

    • Rob Staton says:

He’s really, really good on the field too.

      Wouldn’t be a reach IMO.

There aren’t many better OL prospects. Might not be any that will realistically be available.

  10. Kingdome1976 says:

I was wondering if any of these off season signings are long term deals. Anybody know? Maybe this is a year we are simply seeing who fits in and then next year is our big moves year. Any thoughts?
