Manzeil had a rough game which lead to it not being a super productive game for Evans but he sure looks the part. Deffinately a first round talent based on his phyicality and size.
Evans didn’t get many catch-able balls. I would like to see him when the quarterback was having a good game. He does look physical.
Yuck. The only page that Johnny and Mikey were on during that tape says, “let’s just go out and play half-hearted”. Thanks for posting the clip. Perhaps this will douse the wildfire about both of these guys?
I dont see a guy who “controls the redline”, I see a guy who relies on his athleticism and takes advantage of poor coverage to rack up stats. I know everyone is looking for the next Calvin, Juilo, and AJ but I dont think Mike Evans is it.
I will say that Texas A&M were terrible in this game… across the board. He did a very good job controlling (and dominating) the red line against Alabama and Auburn.
Yeah, not real impressed by his play. Physical is good but wasn’t Harper supposed to be physical. He drops the ball to much in this clip. Lacks effort as well. Tough throws, but I imagine Baldwin or Tate would have made a better effort. SMH not convinced quite yet.
That game just showed me that if he’s drafted by another team, our CBs can keep him from making an impact. That being said, If Wilson was throwing him the ball, he can be a sticks-moving playmaker
He needs to polish his game up some, if he’s going to be productive in the NFL. Pushes off way too much and his calling card is catching Johnny’s hail mary passes. It would be interesting to see how he does with a real QB in a pro system. Run a bunch of routes on the perimeter and down the boundary, doesn’t go over the middle much. I’m really conflicted on how good he is.
If the Seahawks had the #32 pick, they might be better off to take 6′-4 Ebron over Evans. Either would be great, but given a choice, Ebron is more athletic and faster, and I would convert him to WR/ TE.
I doubt either would be available with the 32 pick, so hopefully they will bundle some picks and move up.
Ebron had a 79 yard catch and run today. Good blocking helped, mind.
Between Ebron and Evans, who is the more dependable at catching the ball in traffic, or who makes the more difficult catches?
Evans wins a ton of jump balls. He has to have the edge IMO.
Williams with Missouri made a great catch today.
Rob, what do you think about FSU WR calvin Benjamin? he is playing crazy good right now, tall and physical not super fast but his td run against Florida today when he broke like 4-5 tackles was impressive. Also i think he’s a RS sophomore so he may want to stay longer but he is very impressive to me.
Watched that game and drooled imagining him as a hawk. No one is talking about him in relation to the draft, for example, walterfootball doesn’t have him in his 3 round mock. He is a redshirt sophomore but he is 23 years old, I would think he would declare.
I’ve only seen one FSU game this year so I’ll keep an eye out for this guy vs Duke.
I’m not impressed with him at all. As bad as this game was, the Mizzou game last night was even worse. He completely disappeared. If College secondaries can figure out a way to shut him out then NFL secondaries will eat him alive. Honestly, if we are sitting with the 32nd pick and he is the highest rated player when it’s our turn, I’d rather trade out of the first round for someone’s mid-ish second round pick and their third (which we currently don’t have because of the Harvin acquisition).
Another thought – if one of our divisions rivals use their 1st round pick on him he won’t scare me in the slightest. The LoB would have to be licking their chops at the thought of pick-6ing this guy twice a year. His inferior speed will mean zero separation off our aggressive bump and run coverage. I hope the Rams use their almost-certain-to-be top 10 pick from Washington on him rather than a real impact player like Hageman or Nix.
I suppose it’s also worth considering the games where he’s also flat out dominated — Alabama and Auburn are no slouches after all. And I think part of the issue these last two weeks has been the ability to contain Manziel more so than the receivers. In a jump ball situation, there’s nobody in college I’d have over Mike Evans.
And Nix has had a disappointing year for me overall. Ditto Tuitt the other Dliner at Notre Dame. There are some question marks with Hageman too. He’s very much an upside guy rather than proven ability.
