Desmond Ridder has my attention

October 2nd, 2021 | Written by Rob Staton

I haven’t properly studied Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder. There have been times in his now four year career where I’ve thought he looked like simply a good college player. He’s been on a well run team, that wins games, and his numbers have been decent but nothing special.

Today against Notre Dame, he had my attention.

For some reason Saturday’s college football schedule on British TV was fairly limited. Usually there are a number of games to pick from. Today we had to wait until 8:30pm our time for the Lane Kiffin-inspired Ole Miss capitulation at Alabama.

As such, I wasn’t planning to write about college prospects today. Yet at the last minute I remembered another broadcaster, Sky Sports, has done a deal with NBC to show the Notre Dame games.

I started watching in the fourth quarter and saw two ‘wow’ throws that make you think there’s a pro-prospect in the offing here.

Take a look at this:

That’s one of the prettiest throws you’ll see this season at any level. He gets the ball out quickly and throws with perfect velocity and touch, hitting the open receiver in stride.

His footwork is far from perfect. He has choppy feet, technically you’d like to see a smoother drop. You can’t argue with the end result though.

Then later in the game, he delivered an absolute dime down the seam for a big gain. He looked off the defenders to open up just enough space down the middle of the field, then threw perfectly into a small window to make a big completion. A few plays later, he ran in the touchdown himself showing nice athleticism to basically win the game for Cincinnati.

He seems decisive. He appears to have the arm strength. You can work on some of the technical flaws. And heck, Justin Fields is/was a technical disaster zone at Ohio State. He’s still become many peoples darling — not just in terms of the draft but also the never-ending pining for him to start in Chicago.

And while Notre Dame have all sorts of injury issues, Mike Tirico called it the biggest win in school history. That’s no mean feat. Ridder deserves some credit for that.

Often you only need to see a few flashes to know a player has ‘it’. Ridder showed a little something today. I’m intrigued to see more — and will make a point of watching more.

The 2022 quarterback draft class is a horror story. There’s a major opportunity for someone to emerge as the king of the crop.

On a different note, this is the second time this week I’ve seen a Cincinnati-based team have fun, win a game and just look young and fresh. Firstly it was the Bengals, now it’s the Bearcats.

With the Bengals, they look like a team on the start of a journey. If managed correctly (and it is the Bengals) they could be a real force.

But seeing that young, enthusiastic bunch generating excitement and new hope didn’t half make me pine for the days when the Seahawks felt fresh, new and exciting.

One other quarterback played well and caught the eye today. Stanford sophomore Tanner McKee is a tall, gifted passer. He led a 95-yard touchdown drive to tie the game against Oregon as time expired. McKee then scored in overtime and Stanford’s defense produced a stop to win the game.

He’s definitely one to monitor down the line. He’s an older player having served a two-year mission before his first CFB season in 2020.

Another draft note — a number of running backs are emerging this season with pro-potential. Alabama continues to find physical, explosive playmakers and Brian Robinson, a player we’ve highlighted over the last few weeks, continues to look terrific. He drives through contact, finishes runs and has the quickness to get outside. He can do it all.

Robinson is highly cut which is sometimes a concern and it helps playing behind Alabama’s ridiculous O-line. He has next-level skills though.

Rob, those throws were huge, reminded me of the kind of throws we rely on Russ to hit with regularity. Ridder is definitely an interesting one. He has plenty of traits, and has put together a huge number of starts. He’s also not perfect. I watched 90% of that game and rarely did he seem to go through a progression. He was decisive yes, but I also think he struggled a bit more when asked just to drop back and make a play, especially early on.

He had a poor completion percentage most of the game. Some of that was him making the veteran call to throw it away, but he missed some gimmes as well. Honestly, the biggest flaw with him seems to be the god-awful college offense he’s in. RPOs, bubble screens, etc. definitely contribute to his game. But he has tools, that winning fire, and a good performance last bowl season against Georgia iirc. Screams 2nd rd pick to me, but would love to see him elevate above that.

  2. Big Mike says:

Speaking of QBs, Georgia did that to Arkansas today with their backup QB.

The throw at 1:48 is brilliant. That’s NFL grade stuff right there.

  4. Rob Staton says:

I like the look of this Stanford QB Tanner McKee

  5. Big Mike says:

    Ducks program = fraud
Physical teams beat them far too regularly

And yet again, the Pac 12 has zero chace at the playoff

Potential shakeup in Seattle’s secondary: Seahawks are looking into multiple options due to struggles against the pass, per sources, with newly acquired corners Bless Austin and Sidney Jones bracing for expanded roles, depending on what coach Pete Carroll decides for game day.

  7. Paul Cook says:

Finally time for the game of the week, Washington Huskies vs. Oregon State Beavers.

  8. Paul Cook says:

I’m simmering now and working my way to a boil. Huskies have only 10 points nearing the end of the 3rd quarter and they still won’t put in their 5 star freshman top prospect QB.

Is it that hard to be commonsensical?

    • Rob Staton says:

I don’t think it’ll do Huard any good starting as a freshman with this team.

      • Paul Cook says:

It’s about getting experience. He’s only going to be here for three years, two more after this year in all probability. Get him reps this year, get him through many of his growing pains now, rather than next year when we’re going to want to be competing for a Pac 12 title.

There’s little doubt in my mind that Urban Meyer, Dabo Sweeney, or Nick Saban wouldn’t be giving him game experience now were they the Husky’s coach.

        • Rob Staton says:

Well Dabo didn’t start Lawrence as a freshman until the other guy crapped the bed. And Huard ain’t Trev.

Putting Huard into this team, IMO, could destroy him. There’s no rush to start true freshman QB’s and never should be. He doesn’t need losing experience. He’s better off getting the time to develop physically and mentally.

          • Paul Cook says:

We’ll start seeing more of him soon, in all likelihood. I’m not even talking starting him. Just putting him in and getting him experience at times that make sense, like when Morris is going 5-13 in the 2nd half and can’t buy us a first down.

The Husky’s got beat by a team whose starting QB threw for 48 yards against us. 48 yards. We just needed some kind of an offensive spark. We only got that when they finally put our RB at QB in the wildcat and he got two first downs and 2 TD’s.

            • Paul Cook says:

PS> We win last night’s game, we’re all alone in first place in the Pac 12 north in spite of our putrid start. And we should have won last night’s game.

            • Rob Staton says:

It does seem a lit bit like ‘the young guy can’t do any worse’ though. And as we saw with Justin Fields last week, if you’re not ready —- you can be worse.

There’s no rush to put Huard in. No benefit to it IMO. It’s not common to start a true freshman QB. To me it feels like desperation from fans. But Huard ain’t turning that crap team around this year. And if it’s just about him getting time, it won’t definitely help him to experience negative play.

  9. Palatypus says:

FWIW, if Montana beats Eastern Washington tonight the two teams that Washington lost to will be 9-0.

Also, I heard on the radio today that former Washington quarterback Jake Haener is now #1 in the nation in touchdowns and yards. I checked this on ESPN and they have him as the #2 passer in the nation, but I am not sure it has been updated yet. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, a bit of local rumor. The University of West Florida, which won a Division II National Championship a couple of years ago, is trying to expand with the hope of eventually becoming division I. The blueprint apparently is to become the next University of Central Florida – and they could do it.

There have been many NFL players that have come from Pensacola, most recently Alex Leatherwood from the University of Alabama who was drafted by the Raiders. He went to school at Booker T. Washington High School where the head football coach is former Florida State Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and NBA All-Star Charlie Ward.

Also, NFL Hall of Famers Derrick Brooks and Emmitt Smith are from Pensacola.

  10. Paul Cook says:

Sean McGrew trying to single-handedly get the Huskies a win now running the wildcat.

  11. AlaskaHawk says:

I like Auburn’s QB Bo Nixon. He has been scrambling all over the place. He keeps his eyes downfield and made a bunch of completions while he scrambled.

  12. Ostrich says:

Rob – have you checked out BYU running back Tyler Allgeier? He’s right in the Seahawks wheelhouse at 5’10”, 220, and he likes to hit people. He’s a former walk-on and converted linebacker, and is basically the reason that BYU is 5-0 right now. Pro Football Network says he could go late day 2 or early day 3.

Oh, and if there’s any questions about his athleticism, watch his DK Metcalf-esque forced fumble against Arizona State: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS5SNimx5iY

  13. Paul Cook says:

I’m done with Penny. Sometimes you just have to move on from someone. Keep him on the roster just in case for later in the season, but cut bait once and for all at season’s end. If you can’t stay in the field, you’re no good for us.

    • Roy Batty says:

If they weren’t sitting on over $10 mil in cap and needed an extra $1.36 mil, they might consider cutting him now. But, with Pete’s ego and Carson’s lengthy history of missing games, I just don’t see it happening. Penny will walk out the door at season’s end as an FA, be signed by another team on the cheap, and promptly let go once he has another nagging injury during camp. The guy will have made just under $10 mil with the Hawks, so I will never feel bad for the guy.

      • Paul Cook says:

It’s hard to tell what’s in a person’s heart, but it sure does seem like he doesn’t love the game the way you have to to play such a brutal game at a high level.

  14. cha says:

Congrats to the M’s on the electric win.

All four AL Wild Card-eligible games play at the same time tomorrow, which will bleed into the Seahawks game.

  15. cha says:

Schefter reports Lockett will play, as will Kittle.

  16. Paul Cook says:

Nice to see that fan excitement in Anfield this morning with Liverpool vs. Man City.

  17. Paul Cook says:

Back to the NFL. I couldn’t break free of that Liverpool/Man C game. Really fun soccer to watch. Back and forth, up and down the field. I’m a novice soccer fan, but that was exciting.

  18. Rob Staton says:

Titans — toiling vs the lowly Jets

Vikings — not looking great vs the Browns at home

  19. Rob Staton says:

    Collier inactive again

Remember when during the off-season, Good Morning Football introduced him as a player who had a breakout season in 2020?

  20. Mick says:

Jamarco Jones and LJ Collier out. I guess Ogbuehi is ready to go, but if Jamarco isn’t injured and Jake Curhan is ahead of him, he should join Collier on the cut list.

#Seahawks pregame at 49ers: Sidney Jones appears to be the starting left CB for his Seattle debut, D.J. Reed back to right CB where he started to end last season.

Tre Flowers appears benched. Not on the first-team defense pregame.

      Changes promised. Changes arrive.

  22. OP_Chillin says:

Dak Prescott has been sensational this year. Top 5 QB easy.

  23. Big Mike says:

Jets in the driver’s seat to beat the Titans but Seattle couldn’t hold a 14 point 2nd half lead against them. Sad.

  24. Paul Cook says:

I hate to sound hyperbolic, but today is a necessary win if we are to be taken seriously as a playoff team.

  25. Sea Mode says:

Hmmm, not sure I even want to stay up for this, but here we are…

    Go Hawks! (squawk)

  26. Palatypus says:

Daniel Jones looking like a real quarterback today.

  27. OP_Chillin says:

Crap start. Run run pass punt. Classic

  28. Paul Cook says:

Three and out. Picking up where we left off…

  29. Sea Mode says:

Sigh, already a free rusher right up the middle…

  30. Matt says:

Jamal was outstanding on that missed tackle.

Looking like an ugly day ahead.

  31. Submanjoe says:

Terrible pass by Wilson on that 3rd down.

  32. Hawks4life says:

Waldron has done nothing new for us and the defense still looks like a HS team… it’s going to be a long 17 game season

  33. Submanjoe says:

    Defense looks equally terrible

  34. Matt says:

So pumped for the Twitter video breakdown experts to explain to us how this is actually really good.

  35. OP_Chillin says:

Jones boxed out and that’s an easy TD

  36. Paul Cook says:

    Uh oh…

  37. Robbie says:

    SIT FLOWERS NOW!!!!!!!!! UNACCEPTABLE

  38. Big Mike says:

Sidney at least closer than Flowers would’ve been on that TD pass.

  39. Rob Staton says:

    Absolute disgrace

How the hell is this just carrying on?

Why are there never any consequences?

  40. Palatypus says:

Okay, who had the Giants in their survivor league?

    • Submanjoe says:

Saquon is a back Seattle could trade for…. Buy low, needs a contract, something to prove, 3 down back, star power….

  41. Rob Staton says:

Deejay Dallas, tackled by a kicker

  42. Matt says:

I’m actually starting to hate this team…

  43. OP_Chillin says:

Didn’t look like anyone was open on that view, but damn the ball has to come out earlier than that.

    • Big Mike says:

Or how about we’re not in third and long? And how about we actually have someone on the o-line besides Duane Brown that can pass block?

      • OP_Chillin says:

That’s fair man, absolutely fair. OL just ain’t good enough. Why didn’t they get both Hudson and Jackson btw?

  44. Rokas says:

I would really enjoy our demise, if not for the fact that our 1st round pick belongs to the Jets.

  45. Palatypus says:

Greg Gumbel just said the Titans have blown their last six overtime games. Is that a record?

Zach Wilson putting up very David Krieg-like numbers today: 17/27 240 yards, 2/1.

    • Matt says:

I actually love the fact that Saleh is not making him a game manager. They aren’t competing for anything – let him have growing pains playing the QB position. It’s going to pay off big time, in the long run.

    • Big Mike says:

Didn’t they beat Seattle in OT?

  46. AlaskaHawk says:

it’s going to be a long game full of achy, breaky heartache.

  47. Sea Mode says:

Our last two seasons portrayed in our last two drives.

  48. Sea Mode says:

At least our punt team is great at flipping the field so Jimmy G can rack up stats on us…

  49. Tallyhawk says:

What is different about the OC? What happened to scheming runs and open receivers? What is the supposed elite QB doing to help things?

  50. DC says:

I kinda want to see back to back blowout loses just to have some actual change occur. This is a ridiculous outting after last week’s showing.

  51. OP_Chillin says:

    Let’s goooo Ninoooo!

  52. cha says:

    Diggs!!

    • JLemere says:

I think the guy who is on a contract year and has allowed a perfect passing rating through the first 3 games, just realized that he needed to show up.

  53. Submanjoe says:

My negative take on Diggs must have fired him up to prove me wrong 😂

  54. Rokas says:

Why we don’t bring the heat more often? F****** why??!!

  55. Sea Mode says:

Finally! Now quick strike to DK and let’s get going.

  56. cha says:

Schlereth: “The strength of this Seattle defense is up the middle with Wagner and Adams.”

Next play: Niners run for 7 yards up the middle, Adams blocked out of the play and comes up clapping and chirping at the runner.

  57. OP_Chillin says:

Bloody hell this offense cannot play complementary football worth a goddamn.

  58. OP_Chillin says:

What the actual EFF?? Losing fking yards!

  59. AlaskaHawk says:

Seahawks offensive line is looking worse – this is crazy.

  60. Rob Staton says:

    This team is a disgrace

  61. OP_Chillin says:

Three offensive drives, three third-down sacks, three three-and-outs. Horrible.

  62. Sea Mode says:

    Russ is 3/5 for 6 yds in 3 drives…

  63. bmseattle says:

    Brown can’t handle Bosa…yikes.

  64. Rokas says:

Utter incomptence. I mean what did they expect? Prevent defense? Soft zone?
Russ seems hesitant as it happens more and more often.

  65. Submanjoe says:

Wilson hesitates, backs up, gets sacked. Does he own who he his? Can’t he step up and throw? He backs up…

  66. Henry Taylor says:

At least we’re breaking the good in the first half, bad in the second half streak.

  67. Nicholas M says:

Why does Russ hide in the pocket? What happened to using his wheels?

    • Sea Mode says:

What happened to making a quick read and getting the ball out? He’s already got happy feet and is second-guessing every throw.

      • Nick M says:

It’s like he’s too short to see the first initial read or something…
But then he does the duck and cover and there is no help after that.

  68. Paul Cook says:

OMG! Do we suck in the trenches now. Ugh…

  69. Mick says:

Not defending Wilson, but with this OL there’s not really much he can do. Donald will eat him alive next week.

    • Matt says:

RW is looking horrible but you’re right – this OL is beyond atrocious and the play calls, long developing are absolutely stupid.

  70. Ashish says:

In 3 games offense was bad in second half. Now we are bad in 1st half too.

  71. cha says:

Where’s the energy? Niners are crisp and the Seahawks playing like their alarm clock didn’t go off this morning.

  72. bmseattle says:

Adams gave up on that blitz.
    Again.

  73. Mick says:

Probably one of the worst quarters we’ve ever had, nothing is working.

  74. DC says:

Looks like the offense from how they’ve done things in the past…

  75. Ashish says:

On defense we can’t defend pass or run. Our DL and Oline will be tested by in upcoming games. Our money and draft picks are at middle Adams Brooks Dee Eskridge Blair LJ Collier Penny.

  76. Troy says:

Our “trenches” are playing like absolute shit. Oline can’t block to save their life. Dline putting zero pressure on Jimmy. You have NO SHOT at winning playing like this, this is disgraceful

  77. OP_Chillin says:

Defense is outplaying the offense. That’s where we are right now.

  78. cha says:

    Nice Brooks!

  79. OP_Chillin says:

I swear if we get blown out by a team without a damn kicker…

  80. Submanjoe says:

They are so lucky it’s not 17-0.

  81. Paul Cook says:

We just have to figure out some way to win this game. Or get lucky.

  82. Sea Mode says:

LOL, so like us to luck out against backup QBs/kickers and still manage to lose…

  83. Henry Taylor says:

Woo, still a 1 score game. Take those victories tonight

  84. Paul Cook says:

By the ay, is DK on the inactive list?

  85. Canadian Hawk says:

I can’t believe this is the same group that went 12-4 last year.
Rob and this blog have been more attune than most as to the issues with this team – and unfortunately spot on.

    Changes need to be made.

My question now would be where do you start?

    1. Coaching change?
    2. Trade Russell while he’s still healthy and replenish lost draft capital?
    3. Start cutting those that are overpaid and under delivering?
    4. All the above?

Team doesn’t look even close to being a serious contender.

  86. OP_Chillin says:

My stars, they look completely overmatched and discombobulated. How we used to make other teams feel at the Clink

  87. OP_Chillin says:

    FOUR drives, FOUR sacks. Unbelievable.

  88. Big Mike says:

What’s the over/under on when we get our first offensive first down?

  89. Mick says:

They should consider punting on second and 8, better than getting penalties and sacks.

  90. Robbie Williams says:

This is just sad…..we are in for a long season.

  91. Sea Mode says:

Russ-bot malfunctioning today. What is that walking backwards right off the snap?

  92. Nick M says:

Is something wrong with Duane Brown? I’ve never seen him on the ground as much as in this game so far.

  93. Peppapig says:

    It’s all gone Pete Tong.

  94. Rokas says:

Russ i a very flawed QB, it’s time for him to look in the mirror, instead of constantly worrying about his legacy.

    • Submanjoe says:

He’s has amazing strengths but he’s not a qb who can run the offense from the line of scrimmage.

  95. JLemere says:

So… when are we are going to talk about trading away pieces to make up for the top 15 pick that Seattle is going to lose out on because of the Adams trade?

  96. bmseattle says:

    come on!
how do you not destroy him there?!

  97. cha says:

If Peacock actually tries to form tackle Samuel on that play instead of just lunging at him, that’s not a first down.

  98. OP_Chillin says:

Adams get away w a little PI there?

  99. Paul Cook says:

The one positive about this game so far is that we’re only down 7-0.

  100. Big Mike says:

The peacock was saved on that fleeflicker by a bad backward pass from Jimmy

  101. OP_Chillin says:

Jimmy G is low key playing like asscheeks today. Our offense is absolutely unable to capitalize right now.

  102. Sea Mode says:

Easy TD if the pass back to Jimmy G was good

  103. cha says:

Jimmy G is trying to help the Seahawks as best he can. They’re not taking the help.

  104. Sea Mode says:

Well, all we need is a busted coverage TD to Lockett and we’re tied…

  105. Mick says:

If we go 3 and punt again I give on this game.

  106. Big Mike says:

Overrun your on our 1st 1st 1st down middle of the 3rd quarter

  107. McZ says:

You can kill the Seahawks with practically no play design. If it were not for Jimmy G doing Jimmy G things, this game would be all over.

  108. AlaskaHawk says:

Could Seahawks set a record today – in negative offensive yards??? LOL

  109. OP_Chillin says:

Can’t even blame the D at this point man. O is giving next to nothing. They give up a TD now I won’t even be that mad, it’s just inevitable.

  110. 12th chuck says:

what the hell is up with russel mirer- I mean wilson.wtf

  111. Matt says:

The whole offense sucks today…that said, can’t help but smell PC’s hands all over this. This looks *identical* to the second half of last season.

  112. Nick M says:

Russ can’t even get the ball in front of DK GIANT Metcalf on a slant.
    I don’t get it.

  113. Sea Mode says:

ST is literally the ONLY thing we have going for us. What a whack!

  114. OP_Chillin says:

Meanwhile, the Cards are putting it to the Rams up 21-10

  115. Hawks4life says:

If Pete doesn’t leave there is zero chance Russ stays and other quality players like DK for example won’t resign either. Pete is single handedly ruining this team and his reputation

  116. UkAlex6674 says:

This is worse than the 2017 hammering we took at home from the Rams.

  117. Ashish says:

    Familiar football from hawks

  118. Sea Mode says:

Lynch commercial only entertaining bit of this evening’s program…

  119. Mick says:

Bench is your ally, how about we see Alex Collins or even Geno Smith?

  120. Robbie Williams says:

At least that uber eats commercial with Marshawn was good.

  121. OP_Chillin says:

Another 3 and out coming up?

  122. cha says:

I say ST sell out to block the punt

  123. Matt says:

Neal just made a play that Jamal will never dream of making.

    • Hawks4life says:

100%. If you like comedy just watch adams every play

    • Ashish says:

Seriously he is better than Adams he makes play

    • Sea Mode says:

But the 9ers are “avoiding number 33” according to our brilliant announcers. Ugh, they are so stereotype and not only add nothing to the broadcast, but even contradict themselves and come up with things that just aren’t true to fill the time. So annoying.

      • Matt says:

Just hilarious…he’s just not a good player. Certainly poses no threat to opposing offenses.

      • Kirk Smart says:

I thought that was a hilarious comment from the announcers too.

The 49ers are smart by running the the ball to the opposite side of the field that Adams is on. He has no sack or tackles for loss this season. But they don’t want to do anything that could get him going. LOL 😆

  124. Kyle R says:

Why did that 49er roll with the ball into the endzone? He knows that’s a touchback right?

  125. cha says:

Brilliant play. Take adv of the pressure and burn them.

    Let’s go.

  126. AlaskaHawk says:

About time they put Collins in. Hope they play him the rest of the game. Not like that other game where he had one play.

  127. Henry Taylor says:

    First doooooown

  128. Sea Mode says:

Like the attitude Collins is bringing

  129. Kyle R says:

Collins with some blitz pick up even. Maybe he can even be in on third and long then for blitz pick up. He’s more of a weapon that Homer for sure.

  130. Mick says:

We better not get just a 3 point out of this…

  131. Big Mike says:

Ballsy call on 3rd and one by Waldron. Pete must not have heard the playcall so he didn’t overrule it.

  132. Paul Cook says:

If you’re a 49er fan now, you’re going WTF!! How can we only be up 7-0 and Seattle on the move to tie the game?

  133. cha says:

Quick slants to Metcalf. Good day in the morning.

  134. Matt says:

    DK has mastered that route

  135. Mick says:

Now we’re talking. Keep it up guys.

  136. Henry Taylor says:

    Unbelievable that this is tied.

  137. Troy says:

I can’t believe this is a tie game. Niners absolutely gifting the hawks and ability to still be in the game.

  138. Sea Mode says:

What a weird game. If Shanahan ever gets a good QB, watch out…

  139. Nick M says:

DK’s hair is out of control lol

  140. Mick says:

I’m happy if we end this 7-10.

  141. Curtis Allen says:

    Poona so smart

  142. cha says:

Announcers praising Peacock on that play.

    For what?

  143. bmseattle says:

The announcers *really* want to give credit to Adams, don’t they?

  144. OP_Chillin says:

IDK why but the Seahawks always seem to play this shanahan offense well (at least in SF, Falcons torched us when we played them in 2016).

  145. Sea Mode says:

Adams “wisely avoids the illegal contact”… LOLOL

  146. OP_Chillin says:

Why did they call timeout if they were going to run down the clock???

  147. Mick says:

Still can’t believe we’re not down 7-28 or something.

  148. Paul Cook says:

7-7. Are you effing kidding me??? What fans are more pissed off by that half?

  149. Sea Mode says:

Yeah, let’s run another play to risk injury to Carson instead of just letting the clock run out or kneeling down…

  150. Peppapig says:

    Peacock likes the fake.

  151. Norman says:

Rhetorical question: Any chance Pete recognizes the last of impact from Adams & the playmaking of Neal, and seeks to trade him as we approach the deadline?

  152. Paul Cook says:

If RW gets unstuck in the 2nd half, we may end up winning this game. Unbelievable.

  153. OP_Chillin says:

Cardinals in position to go up 28-13 before halftime. Wow.

  154. Matt says:

Side note…Zach Wilson had 4 throws today that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rookie make. Jets/Saleh are wise to let him continue to wing it, take the lumps early…he’s gonna be a real good one.

  155. cha says:

Dang. Shanahan noticed how badly Jimmy is playing.

    • Sea Mode says:

I thought the same. The phantom “calf injury” just a way to bench him without ruffling feathers.

  156. Big Mike says:

    Backup QB, we’re fucked

  157. cha says:

    Great stop, D !!!!

  158. Matt says:

Hot take…SF is much better with Garappolo. Lance isn’t very good.

  159. Mick says:

    Terrible game by Carson today.

  160. OP_Chillin says:

Ugh. Carson doesn’t have it. Why is Collins not in there?

  161. cha says:

    Quick tip for Carson.

Please do not try to outrun DB’s to the sideline. Lower your shoulder and punish them.

    That is all.

  162. bmseattle says:

    another obvious screen play

  163. Robbie Williams says:

OOOHHHH he under threw him! Come on Russ!

  164. Mick says:

If we have one amazing player in the roster, it’s Dickson.

  165. Matt says:

    That’s a drop…

  166. Submanjoe says:

Another incomplete on 3rd down. Slightly under thrown by Wilson

  167. Big Mike says:

Underground by Russ and DK should’ve caught it

  168. OP_Chillin says:

Dammit! That’s why AB talks about “late hands.” You need to wait until the last possible second to shoot your hands up to catch the ball so the DB doesn’t have as much time to swat at them.

  169. Paul Cook says:

    DK could’ve had that. I didn’t see a hand touch that ball…

  170. Sea Mode says:

    Shutup, Schlereth, DK dropped it.

  171. bmseattle says:

damn… really the first deep pass to DK this year, where he had a step and position.
    …and he drops it.

  172. 12th chuck says:

time to sit carson for a while

  173. OP_Chillin says:

Sure, that was a bit underthrown, could have been a TD if he lead him appropriately, but Metcalf can still make that catch to move the sticks.

  174. bmseattle says:

what a dumb play by Blair.
even if he hadn’t gone out of bounds, the ball was too far from the goal line to down it there.

  175. Hawks4life says:

Mark just said the Hawks and 9ers ar great football teams lmfao

  176. Paul Cook says:

Hmm…Lance don’t look good. Come on offense. Take control of this game QUICK!

  177. Mick says:

Come on, too many mistakes by the 9ers, get some points on that board.

  178. cha says:

Remember when people were comparing Kerry Hyder to Michael Bennett?

I’m ready to file a Missing Persons report.

  179. Robbie Williams says:

Anyone else stoked for Far Cry 6 🙂 lol commercials are the best part of this game

  180. Matt says:

Just a reminder that I’m grateful the 49ers passed on Mac Jones and instead opted for one of the most overrated QB prospects I’ve ever seen.

  181. Sea Mode says:

1/7 and 1/8 on 3rd downs. What a terrible game. We both deserve to get clobbered by the Cards and Rams.

  182. Big Mike says:

Interior offensive line opening running lines. Good to see

  183. OP_Chillin says:

Gosh, they (most Russ) look so awkward running some of those screen type plays. I think they just need more practice as they usually never run them. Would pay dividends to be able to run those cleanly to pick up easy yards

  184. cha says:

    RW!

That’s the desire and competitiveness we need!

  185. Mick says:

Yes I missed one of these.

  186. Henry Taylor says:

    Vintage.

  187. OP_Chillin says:

Up-tempo has been working all season… just saying

  188. Nick M says:

Alex Collins is changing the pace and it’s making a huge difference I think.

  189. AlaskaHawk says:

Amazing how some successful plays will build team confidence.

  190. John says:

Woof Seattle winning but this defense has gotten incredibly lucky that Garoppolo and Trey Pance have been playing subpar.

  191. Paul Cook says:

We need a turnover now so bad. It would be so timely…

  192. cha says:

    Wow!

    Tide turning?!

  193. Sea Mode says:

    Let’s gooo!

  194. Henry Taylor says:

Imagine how mad 9ers fans are watching this game.

  195. Mick says:

Thank you 49ers, but it’s not Christmas yet!

  196. AlaskaHawk says:

Wow – I take back all the bad things I said in the first half.

  197. cha says:

    I don’t believe it.

    I don’t believe it.

    Holy smokes.

  198. Big Mike says:

Incredible play by Russ. Unreal even

  199. Robbie Williams says:

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  200. Sea Mode says:

    Wow, just wow.

  201. OP_Chillin says:

WOW Hell yeah! That was the first “magical” play I’ve seen from RW in a while. Sexy deep balls aside I love me some houdini action.

  202. 12th chuck says:

amazing how the game has turned aroundfor now at least.

  203. Hawks4life says:

Why is adams always so far away from the play, and when he’s close hes still standing up doing nothing

  204. OP_Chillin says:

Blair in for Nino? Is he hurt?! that would absolutely suck

  205. Big Mike says:

Um defense let me clue you, their only chance to win is run the football

  206. Submanjoe says:

They’re lucky Lance is playing and that apparently Shanahan won’t run their normal offense with him…

  207. bmseattle says:

“Good Russ” really covers up a lot of weaknesses.

  208. OP_Chillin says:

    WHAT. THE. HELL.

  209. Mick says:

No way we can be consistent at least once…

  210. Submanjoe says:

At least Adams can blame someone and not take any responsibility for that busted play

  211. Pran says:

    That’s an expensive Peacock show!

  212. Leonardo says:

We would legit be better with Ryan Neal starting instead of Jamal. At least he knows the scheme

  213. Robbie Williams says:

    Figures!

  214. Matt says:

    PEA-COCK

    PEAAAAA-COOOOOCK

  215. Sea Mode says:

    Can’t wait for Adams’ presser…

  216. Henry Taylor says:

As much as we all like to bag on Adams, that was probably on Jones.

  217. Big Mike says:

“Not my fault”. “Somebody else’s coverage “

  218. Peppapig says:

    Peacock earning his money.

  219. Blitzy the Clown says:

LV Peacock is a laughing stock. He’s had enough time to learn the coverage schemes.

  220. Sea Mode says:

    LOL 49ers woes

  221. 12th chuck says:

no team will trade for adams we are stuck with him smh

  222. Mick says:

Now a long drive, waste 8 minutes and score some points.

  223. OP_Chillin says:

Guys that wasn’t on Adams XD

  224. Sea Mode says:

Please don’t blow it to this 9ers team. Please.

  225. OP_Chillin says:

    DK WTF?

  226. cha says:

    Another drop DK.

  227. Mick says:

I dare say this was an important first down.

  228. Troy says:

Hawks sustaining a drive in the 4th quarter? What universe are we in?

  229. Mick says:

    Yey Alex my Irish guy!

  230. Big Mike says:

    LOVE the somersault

  231. AlaskaHawk says:

Alex Collins – auditioning to be our #1 running back. Love the combination of power and shifty running.

  232. Matt says:

    Is Collins better than Carson…

  233. Paul Cook says:

Collins is just a plain old good RB.

  234. cha says:

    Great inside running by Collins.

Seems like every game against the Niners the Seahawks have a run right up the gut for a TD.

  235. Big Mike says:

And to think, they had Penny in front of AC on the depth chart

  236. Paul Cook says:

    Okay…how can we blow this?

  237. Hawks4life says:

Collins has always been a #1 type RB

  238. Big Mike says:

Cardinals up on the Rams 34-13
Guess I’m going to have to start believing they’re for real

  239. ScandicHawk says:

Alex Collins is the best RB on our roster right now. Great vision, awesome feet, makes guys miss, patient and then BOOM, and he breaks tackles. Carson’s a tank and I’ve loved him since he was drafted, but the guy is just running into people right now, doesn’t make anybody miss and he’s not patient. That touchdown run was a thing of absolute Running Back glory. Hope Collins stays in and Carson stays on the bench.

  240. Mick says:

As happy as I am we turned this around, the Rams will kill us if we show up like in the first quarter.

  241. cha says:

    Lean on that rookie, fellas!

  242. 206 says:

Is Neal playing nickle CB? Glad they are getting him on the field

    • bmseattle says:

Well, neither Umadi or Blair has played well, so I guess they are trying everyone in that spot.

  243. cha says:

    Schlereth is intolerable.

    • Troy says:

But Cha, how could you possibly live without knowing that guy “is a football player”. That is his best compliment, you know what about that guy? He’s a football player, he’s a hall of famer. Just super unoriginal and uncreative.

  244. John says:

How long before people hype up this performance and act like the defense is back. Despite both 49ers QBs missing throws and playing horribly.

  245. OP_Chillin says:

Could still use some tempo, honestly. Plus they’re really sniffing out these screens and relying on guys to break tackles to make any positive gains on them. 🙁

  246. Troy says:

I know lance is a rookie and could end up being good, but am I the only one who is just as happy seeing him struggle as the Hawks winning? The niners put so much on him resource wise, if he’s a bust that tanks their franchise for the foreseeable future.

  247. Henry Taylor says:

Wow, I’ve been pretty focused on game and didn’t notice. The Rams are getting spanked

  248. cha says:

“Jamal Adams gets his hands on a quarterback”

    tickled me

  249. Paul Cook says:

I think we’ve won. Lance can’t beat us now. Just get some first downs. Collins seems good at that now.

  250. Big Mike says:

Ryan Neal with the rackle, Peacock with the clapping

  251. Peppapig says:

    Lance looks real green.

  252. Mick says:

I bet Ryan Neal doesn’t own any expensive cup.

  253. AlaskaHawk says:

I didn’t even notice Deebo Samuel in the first half. Now he’s coming alive.

  254. cha says:

How is that not a hold on Dunlap?

  255. OP_Chillin says:

Taylor got yanked down by the back of his jersey SMH

  256. AlaskaHawk says:

Garapolo is the 49ers version of our Penny. He never gets through a season. It’s too bad because he could be better, but he won’t last.

  257. Big Mike says:

referees are cheaters they’re trying to keep the niners in the game to keep the ratings up

  258. OP_Chillin says:

Great stop! Also looks like Diggs is back in, which is nice 🙂

  259. Troy says:

Defense stepped up. But keep in mind, QB play for San Fran has been atrocious. Hawks need help on the dline badly.

  260. Norman says:

    HUGE play by Brooks there.

  261. OP_Chillin says:

Run, run, run. I thoroughly do not enjoy that.

  262. Big Mike says:

Playing not to lose gonna bite us in the ass?

  263. cha says:

Another hold on Dunlap not called and he’s hurt.

  264. Paul Cook says:

It seems like Diggs has had a good day today.

  265. bmseattle says:

Schlereth going out of his way to say that shouldn’t be a hold!

  266. Paul Cook says:

Huge win for us today. It keeps the obituaries at bay.

  267. Big Mike says:

1st important play by Adam Sawyer

  268. OP_Chillin says:

There’s Adams, finally! Great hit on GK

  269. cha says:

Now THAT is the time to lower your shoulder and not wrap up, Jamal.

    Fantastic play!

  270. Troy says:

First legit play by Adams there

  271. Norman says:

WHAT?! An impact play by Adams???

  272. OP_Chillin says:

Lance has markedly improved throughout the game. Plus that mobility is scary.

    • bmseattle says:

They picked a good defense to break him in against.
good from their perspective, i mean.

    • Matt says:

Uh…his only bit of production came on a broken play (which his pass was awful) and when Seattle went to prevent defense.

He looks a long ways from becoming a functional NFL QB.

  273. Paul Cook says:

BOOM! That’s what we’re looking for from JA.

  274. Big Mike says:

Playing not to lose puts you in this position

    • Mick says:

I still don’t see us lose it though.

    • OP_Chillin says:

100%. Why the hell didn’t they step on the niner’s throats? Regardless if this onside kick works or not, this should have been a dominant win on the scoreboard.

  275. Mick says:

Glad we won, worried as hell about our game. We have so many things to improve. I noticed that the guys that play best are those with relatively low expectations – Collins, Neal, the youngsters.

  276. Sea Mode says:

Winning will quench the ignorant fan’s concerns for a week, but the intelligent fan knows full well what a crapfest that was.
