Seahawks vs 49ers MNF preview

Seattle on defense

Kyle Shanahan’s offense is a problem for Seattle. Atlanta tore strips off the LOB, including in the 2016 playoff game. Even when the Niners lost 43-16 in Seattle last season, Nick Mullen had a 414 yard game.

Even if George Kittle doesn’t play as expected, Shanahan has a formula to dissect and manipulate Seattle’s unit. Considering how poorly they’ve played this year it’ll likely be an exercise in damage limitation.

The key question is whether they can steal a turnover or two on defense to create enough of a swing to support the offense? And failing that, can they find a way to concede three instead of seven? It’s been difficult to watch practically every team march up-and-down the field on Seattle’s defense. It’s a bit optimistic to think the unbeaten Niners are going to be any different.

We know they’re not going to harass Jimmy Garoppolo. They’ll probably give up some gains in the running game. Limiting San Francisco to field goals whenever possible and pinching a turnover or two is vital. Either that or it’s going to be on the offense to pull off another miracle.

Seattle on offense

A lot of people on Twitter will want ‘Russ to cook’ tonight but that’s not necessarily a recipe for success in this game. San Francisco’s defensive line is the best in the league and has the potential to be one of the best in recent memory. They can consistently rush with four, create relentless pressure and drop players in coverage.

The Seahawks will have to find a way to slow-down the rush. They will need to box-clever and try to force San Francisco to be a bit more aggressive. The best way to do this is to run the ball effectively.

Arizona had a big day running against San Francisco last week and they’ve now lost Kwon Alexander to IR. The Niners’ biggest strength on defense is their pass rush. The best way to take that threat away is to limit the opportunities they have to impact the game.

They’ll still need Wilson magic of course. They will in every game this season. They need to try and find a balance similar to the Rams win. There they ran for 167 yards and Wilson finished 17/23 passing for 268 yards and four touchdowns. He might need to throw more times in this game if it ends up being a shoot-out or if the Seahawks get behind. That’s probably the blueprint though.

Five years ago the Seahawks vs Niners games emulated the slug-fest Alabama vs LSU games. Two days after the college version played out a 46-41 encounter, we might be set to witness the NFL version this evening.

Special teams

A year ago the Seahawks lost a game they should’ve won in Santa Clara. They gave up cheap points on a kick return and Sebastian Janikowski missed an extra point. The game ended up going to overtime.

The Seahawks actually started very well with a scoring drive. The instant nature of San Francisco’s kick return score blew any momentum Seattle had.

It’s stating the obvious to say Jason Myers needs to be better. This hasn’t been an easy stadium to kick in. Robbie Gould has struggled this year. Hopefully Myers will be able to bounce back from last week’s horror show. This is a crucial game for him and he knows it. The Seahawks need a lot to go their way including a special teams edge.

Final thought

The Seahawks were battered by New Orleans and Baltimore — the two ‘proper’ teams they’ve faced this year. Let’s hope those were simply two bad days at the office and not the reality of what this team is.

I fear this is San Francisco’s answer to Seattle’s game against New Orleans in 2013. That was a Monday Night Football game. The Seahawks, at 10-1, were out to prove they were the real deal. They destroyed the Saints before finishing the season 2-2.

The Niners likely won’t finish 16-0 and will lose at some point. Whether it happens tonight in primetime with the spotlight on them, I’m not so sure.

Feel free to use this as an open thread for MNF.

Here’s one final plug for my interview with Dave Wyman, talking about the big moments in Seahawks history and looking ahead to the game. If you want something to get you in the mood for tonight — check it out:

You never know when a defense can rise up. Look at the way the Falcons D dominated the Saints and they have been dreadful on defense this year. These rise ups usually happen in divisional games like this one, time to rise up.

    • Rob Staton

      Hope so

    • GoHawksDani

TBH I doubt they’ll shine, but I hope they prove me wrong. How could they prove me wrong?
1, Ansah was a liability. Not saying he likely to wreak havoc, but he could be at least OK
2, At least one of the younger guys could step up (Ford, Green, Collier)
3, Reed and QJeff have contract years. Jefferson started hot, Reed was a monster last year…time to solidify their paychecks for next year
4, Griffin is close to be really-really-really good, or elite. If he wants them to talk about him as a top5-10 CB he needs to shine even more and has a pick or two.
5, Diggs may start, he could be a secret X factor
6, Our LB corps needs to be a bit more in-line with their responsibilities and needs to tackle well
7, I want Bobby to have a signature game
8, Not sure who’ll start between Blair-McDougald-Diggs-else as safeties, but if Blair he could build on his resume as an interesting, young player with maybe star-pontential

If they can control the run (do not let Breida or Coleman break big runs and avg less than 4-4,5 yards at the end (would be better to avg 3-3,5 in the first half)) and put some moderate pressure on Garoppolo (not sacks, just limit his time to throw), this can be pretty close.

I think this will be on the LBs mostly: By blitzing some, by limiting big runs and some screens, TE/RB passes, crossing routes

      • GoHawksDani

        1, failed
2, happened to some extent (only Ford)
3, happened (especially Reed, but QJeff was good also)
4, happened (wow PBU, almost had a pick if not for the stupid holding call)
        5, happened
6, happened (although at least 1 pick between KJ and Bobby would’ve been even better)
        7, Almost happened
        8, I don’t think Blair played (much)

Put great pressure on Garoppolo, Breida had 1.8 avg, Coleman 4.4, Mostert 4.7, all in all 3,2 avg on 27 attempt, well done.

My brain is telling me this will be a very tough, frustrating, and likely close game coming down to the 4th quarter. For some reason though I can’t shake the feeling that if SEA comes away with a W, it’s actually going to be by 10+. They’re such a weird team that this would be the perfect “WTF” kind of game.

    • Rob Staton

For me I could see this being San Francisco’s answer to our 2013 home game against New Orleans. Everyone was billing it as a bit of a prove-it game. We blew away the Saints, made a statement and marched on to the Super Bowl. I’m concerned that the Niners will do the same. Handle us comfortably and show to the rest of the league they are a legit 9-0.

I’m also wary that we’ve been absolutely battered by New Orleans and Baltimore — the two proper teams we’ve faced this year.

      Over to you, Russ.

      • Doug

I don’t think “battering” is what New Orleans did to the Seahawks though. Special teams cost us that game, plus Carson’s fumble/scoop and score. That game could easily have gone the other way.

I think we match up well to SF–our ability to contain their running game is the key to stopping them. Here is when we see if the 3LB base can perform, along with our DL, against a ++ running attack. Especially if Kittle doesn’t play, I don’t think SF can win if they have to rely on throwing the ball. Diggs may be a key to improved D play.

RW has a new weapon, and this is a game that will test his ability to get the ball out quickly. He has shown that he is more than capable. No turnovers and Seahawks may win easily, but all bets are off if Carson (or the other RBs) fumble the ball away.

        • Jeff M.

Both games actually were lost on defensive scores and special teams. Against Ravens we had more yards and first downs but gave up two long return TDs (their margin of victory), plus a missed FG.

But, yeah, against the Saints we actually dominated (nearly doubled them up in first downs and yards) and lost entirely due to self inflicted wounds. It’s much more accurate to say we battered them than the other way around.

Unless Russell has a really uncharacteristic game with ball security, our biggest issues are fumbles (primarily Carson, but also receivers and returners have had their share) and special teams. Both of those seem like things we ought to be able to tighten up, but it hasn’t happened so far, so we’ll see.

        • Mike B

I don’t know, battering seems like a good descriptor. I was at the game, and to say they sucked the air right out of an otherwise loud and proud crowd is an understatement. Dice it up however you like, but the Saints used the Seahawks game plan against us. Run the ball, keep ball control, own the clock, get stops on D.. The Ravens and LJ breaking out of the pocket was essentially what russ has been doing for years. I think its fair to recognize when the Pete Carrol brand of football is being applied to us, and how demoralizing it really is. Its what we traditionally have done to others.

Can we defeat the niners? I think so much of it rides on how we scheme to run up the middle and confuse their LBs. they put their D linemen wide to get good rushing angles. Our line will most likely get exposed like practically every other teams. Its a lot to ask our O line. But their LBs key off of our linemen pass blocking or run blocking. If we fake a pass block and run and fake a run block and pass, we can throw them off. If we misdirect them they will be out of position and exposed. Their whole scheme relies on the speed of LBs to mitigate the wide spread of the linemen.

        • Rob Staton

I thought the Saints battered Seattle at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

          • Jeff M.

Go back and look at what happened in that game, though.

            We had 514 yards to their 265. 26 first downs to 15. 6.8 yards/play to 5.3. 5 red zone trips to 2.

Their first two scores were a punt return TD and a fumble return TD. Two others were on short fields after failed 4th down conversions. The only long drive they had all game (the first one after the half) should have ended on a missed FG but we gave them a first down by penalty.

Literally every score/positive drive for the Saints was due to a boneheaded mistake and/or non-predictive play by us. If you re-ran that game 100 times to iron out the randomness on average we would win by ~3 TDs.

            • Rob Staton

Most of our yards were garbage time chasing the game. They bullied us in the trenches, whatever the yardage or the manner of the scores.

              • Jeff M.

Nope. Even in the 1st half we had something like 250 yards to 150.

They didn’t sack Russell once and only hit him 3 times despite him throwing 50 times for an average depth of target of 11 yards. We hit Bridgewater twice on only 27 throws at only 3.5 yd ADOT.

Carson had better yards before contact than Kamara (although the latter did break a few tackles).

Nothing that happened in that game is consistent with the Saints battering us. We dominated in non-ST expected points. It was entirely down to boneheaded ST plays and return TDs.

                • Rob Staton

Jeff, feel free to keep quoting yards stats. They bullied us. Played us at our own game.

                  I know what I saw.

      • Logan Lynch

I sympathize with these two concerns. Honestly, I think this comes down to the D and OL. The D needs to step up and hold SF’s running game down. Make them one dimensional. Show a little tenacity and backbone. If the OL can open up some holes in the run game and give Russ some time to throw, I think he could gash them. Sherm is great for the first 20 yards or so, but I think he’d have major trouble with the speed of Lockett and DK downfield. If the SF DL is getting in Russ’ face right off the snap, that obviously takes away any deep shot opportunities.

        • GoHawksDani

Sorry Logan, but I highly doubt it’ll be on OL. No way our OL match up well with that DL. I think it’ll be on gameplan and execution more. If PC-Schotty can limit their rushing opportunities with smart screens, short passes, ton of inside runs, maybe with some flea-flickers and misdirections AND the OL doesn’t completely sucks they have a chance. If they come with their usual gameplan: mix up the run, long throws, it’ll be a massacre.

My concern is that I don’t trust Penny on inside runs and fear of Carson fumbling. They line up pretty wide, so outside runs are harder. And they’ll attack Carson as wild animals.
I think Carson will protect the ball as much as he can, but I have a feeling he’ll have a fumble this game too

          • Logan Lynch

Like you said, the OL will still need to hold up regardless of scheming. That’s what I’m talking about when I said the OL will need to step up. I actually hope SF does try to rip the ball out of Carson’s hands. That way he can run them over while they try to grab at the ball.

            • GoHawksDani

OL did OK in the end in my opinion 🙂 Carson fumbled, but so did Russ, Penny, DK, Ifedi

  3. Peppapig

I took some pills and saw the future.
    Niners lose this. 34-16

    • Hawksince77

Was it the blue pill, or the red one? I would guess the blue given your particular vision.

    • Volume12

I took pills and ruined my life.

      • Kenny Sloth

        Hahahahahahahahahah

    • Donald

Thankfully Neo plays QB for the Hawks.

  4. Volume12

I saw someone mention Minkah Fitzpatrick on the last post, Trev maybe, and while I can’t argue that he’s been a difference maker, how good is that front 7 and how good has Mike Tomlin been?

    • Jamho3

V12, how good by what standards?

Don’t be spreading this around. Let RW get his MVP this year, then next year the world can praise LJ all they want.

      • Sea Mode

        🤐

      • Uncle Bob

Unfortunately the folks who vote on MVP are easily distracted by the new, the bright, the shiny……….not the “old” doing what he’s supposed to guy. As much as it will disappoint me and the rest of us, stats aren’t enough, Russ will likely be passed over………………………again.

    • Matt

If I had to guess, I think LJ will mimick Kaepernick’s career, sans the political stuff. They will have some serious high points and seem borderline unstoppable for a year, maybe a couple. But I just don’t think he’s a nuanced enough player for the long haul. His style is going to leave him open to serious injury, concussion, etc.

The NFL figures everyone out. The good ones adapt accordingly. Could he adapt? Of course he could. But I really do worry about the mental side of his game (and please don’t assign motive to that comment).

  6. CaptainJack

Both of our losses were played in the rain, which impacted Russ’s passing ability.

If it’s a clear night I’d say we have a good chance to ourscore the niners by giving Carson and Penny a ton of carries and spreading the ball out between Locket Metcalf Gordon Brown Dickson and Hollister in the passing game.

    • Doug

Weather looks great. Clear, not windy.

  7. line_hawk

I am not too concerned with Lamar running over our defense, he is doing that to everyone. I think limiting SF offense is probably easier than Baltimore. Having an immobile QB will also help the pass rush a bit.

Finally, if PC is such a great defensive coach, he needs to adjust. One busted pass rusher (Ansah) shouldn’t bring down the entire defense. Can you imagine Sean Payton or Andy Reid offense being bottom five in the league? Well, if PC is for real, he can’t trot out bottom five defense week after week.

    • Rob Staton

It’s not just Ansah. The entire line isn’t creating enough. I think it’s unfair to say Carroll has to find a solution to prove he’s ‘for real’. I think he’s safely proven that in Seattle. Payton and Reid have had rough years in their careers. If they hadn’t, Reid would still be in Philly.

  8. JimQ

RW slides or gets out of bounds when he is carrying the ball and is often praised for doing so. Jackson, due to his running style as a QB, is bound to get hurt eventually, it’s just a matter of time. Maybe that time will be on 11/11/19? One can hope.

    • Ishmael

Why on earth would you hope for the most exciting player in the NFL to get hurt? Bizarre comment

  9. Coleslaw

9ers defense is overrated. The DL isn’t though. Running and play action with a RB in shotgun when we do pass.

    Seattle wins by 10.

    • Sea Mode

Yup, was also thinking RPO out of shotgun will be key to read their LBs and keep the DEs honest.

    • Rob Staton

The Niners defense is most certainly not overrated. It’s loaded with talent on the DL.

      • Coleslaw

I believe it is. We’ll see over the rest of the season.

They haven’t played any QBs who are worth anything. Their test starts tonight vs. Russell Wilson. Kyler Murray almost beat them, shows what their D looks like against an average to above average QB. A rookie at that.

49ers haven’t faced a QB like RW since last year. And they don’t have Kittle.

You pointed out previously that Seattle and SF give up the same YPCarry. So we should also be able to run the ball. Especially if Wilson keeps a few. You also pointed out that our back 7 is actually doing ok for how bad the DL is. I think if we play kind of a funnel defense vs SF we can slow their running game enough and since they dont have kittle we can hopefully keep Jimmy from throwing for too much.

It will come down to turnovers and QB play. I like our TD/TO ratio better than theirs and I like Russell Wilson a lot more than Jimmy Garoppollo.

Seahawks win by 10. It’s our statement win.

        • Rob Staton

It doesn’t matter that Kyler Murray nearly beat them. It won’t matter if Russell Wilson does beat them.

The LOB-era Seahawks lost to Austin Davis.

They don’t need to win every game to be a fantastic defense. They don’t have to dominate every game.

          They’re legit whatever happens tonight.

  10. Adog

Hawks 27 boners 24. ..Meyers kicks the game winner as time expires…after he misses a extra point. For all the talk of offense and defense…this game comes down to the kicking and punting.

    • Adog

      Niners

      • Sea Mode

        🤭

    • Peppapig

      Nail on the head.

    • TomLPDX

Nailed it Adog, except he made the extra point.

      • Adog

Well I did pick the Hawks to win the Superbowl this year…just saying…

  11. Kingdome1976

If Rob is right when he basically said even in our hey-day with the legion of boom Shannahan basically owns our defense than what hope will we ever have against his offense in our division? I guess every year from here on out with Pete at the helm we should just count our lucky stars to get some turn overs.

    • Rob Staton

I said Shanahan’s offense’s have performed very well against Seattle consistently. It doesn’t mean they will dominate every game. Or that they can’t win when they produce yards (see: last year’s home game).

  12. Sea Mode

    Keeping up with the gang…

    Ian Rapoport
    @RapSheet

Source: Former #Bears RB Mike Davis was claimed on waivers and awarded to the #Panthers.

The #Raiders continue to search for help in the defensive backfield, as they are working out former #Lions and #Seahawks DB Deshawn Shead today, source said.

    • Jamho3

Shead is good, he’ll help them.

  13. Kingdome1976

I believe Britt being out in this game is what worries me the most. Not sure if will be able to run like we want to with Hunt in front.

My prediction which I hope is completely wrong is:

    Seahawks – 17
    49ers – 31

    • Matt

Eh…I think Britt was going to be cut this offseason anyways. He had 1 nice year and has kind of ranged from Average to Bad. I think Hunt will be fine. Weirdly enough, I’m not worried about the OL tonight – Hawks need to run the ball on this front. It’s the defense I’m worried about.

    • Rob4q

I say 31-30 Seahawks win a thriller! Niners go up early, Seahawks rally and we go back and forth in the second half until Russ hits Lockett late for the game winner! And just to make it more awesome, Niners get one last shot at a long FG try with 0:02 left on the clock and Hawks block it for the win!

  14. steele

Rob, I think you’re being quite pessimistic. Perhaps with good reason. I do see this is as a true defining moment for this season.

The 49ers have not been seriously tested. They’ve had the luxury of playing teams without starting QBs, and against teams with major injuries (Rams). They haven’t faced either a great defense or a great offense. They struggled against the Steelers, Redskins, Cardinals. I think they are cocky, and getting ahead of themselves. Acting glamorous way prematurely. (The local SF press devoted an entire article on 49ers celebration routines. That’s how full of it it has all gotten in the Bay Area.)

Whereas the Seahawks have had a different and familiar struggle. They have competed, scrapped and fought, despite a problematic roster. They’ve won ugly, and are on the verge of taking a standings lead.

Shanahan’s offense has been heavily dependent on slow developing horizontal plays. Pitch outs, more pitchouts, dump passes. If the Seahawks defense has sideline to sideline quickness, they will shut that running game down. Jimmy G has vulnerabilities. He rarely goes long. He gets very rattled with pressure and makes mistakes when pressured. So it’s important to rush him.

How good is the SF defense? Really good, but again, I’m not sure if they’ve been fully tested. Pete should know what Saleh is up to. And of course, there’s good old Sherman, doing what he does. But he’s a step slower. Do you attack him?

    Which team is more physical?

If this were one of the earlier, better Seahawks incarnations, Hawks in a solid win. This season? A virtual draw. It’s going to be tough and ugly, perhaps hinging on a few big plays and turnovers. Will need Russell’s best.

    • steele

No Kittle is huge. He’s Jimmy’s security blanket. But look out for Deebo.

    • Rob Staton

I’d be less pessimistic if the defense wasn’t struggling to stop any opponent and they hadn’t scraped by some of the league’s weakest times, while comfortably losing their only two stern tests to New Orleans and Baltimore.

  15. Sea Mode

Well, folks, hate to do this, but I’ve got meetings this week, so staying up/getting up to watch live isn’t an option this time. Will catch the replay and catch up with you all as soon as I have time tomorrow.

And since I apparently didn’t help him out last week during the game with my comments, I now wish to send only good vibes Jason Myers’ way: he won’t miss a kick in this game.

Let’s get the rivalry back on again! Go Hawks!

  16. Trevor

Collier inactive again tonight. I know he was hurt in camp but when your DL is struggling and your 1st round pick is not even active that is not a good sign.

    • Ashish

How do you know so early? Is report published somewhere?

  17. WallaSean

My take: Niners are not quite ready for prime time. They need this win for validation to be where they think they are, and they know it. That’s a lot of pressure at home on the big stage vs a division rival. Russell usually is the difference in a high pressure game.
George Fant with his first reception, a couple of timely pass deflections and pass pressures, a clean, well played close game with big handfulls of field goals made and missed. Seahawks show their flaws and the Niners as well,Seahawks blow the NFC wide open with a hard fought victory 30-26.

    • Rob Staton

      Hope you’re right

  18. WallaSean

My optimism does intersect with reality on occasions at least.

  19. WALL UP

A key to stopping the run against the Niners could lay with the play of the DT’s penetration of SF’s zone blkg scheme. Poona has done well against Richburg. It will be interesting to see that match up. Reed seemed to be coming on a bit against the Bucs. Hopefully, he will up his game as well.

  20. McZ

    Nuff said… Go Hawks!

  21. Paul Cook

The Hawks play well in prime time. They also have a tendency to play down to weaker opponents and play up to stronger opponents. We need to play with few mistakes tonight. We need to play the time-of-possession game tonight. We need to run the ball well tonight. We need to keep the game close tonight. We need RW to be RW tonight.

I have no idea how this game will play out to night. My guess is that we lose, but that we don’t lose badly.

Well, off to a viewing party now.

    Enjoy you all.

    Go Hawks! 🙂

  22. Rob Staton

I think it’s interesting that some of the bigger complainers on Twitter are also those getting a bit overly pumped before the game. Thus, unintentionally setting themselves up for a titanic moan later.

I don’t want to labour the point but this is Wilson against the world tonight. It’s not often one man defeats a complete team.

    • Volume12

Normally I’d agree with ya and lord knows I ain’t a fan of Seahawks twitter, but it’s a rivalry game. Maybe the biggest matchup of the year to this point.

  23. Volume12

Let’s go Poona! Make Richburg cry like a big baby b***h again

  24. icb12

Refereeing these days makes NFL damn near unwatchable. UGH.

  25. CHawk Talker Eric

These refs…if they want to call it close, fine. But at least call it fair. I’ve seen multiple holds by SF go uncalled.

    • Rob Staton

One pass rusher had his jersey clearly yanked on a none-called hold.

Terrible opening drive by the refs. Calling back an interception for THAT? Flagging Flowers for THAT?

      Joke.

  26. Volume12

    F**k

    • Redzone086

  27. Volume12

Joey Hunt just got put on skates. My goodness

    • Rob Staton

      That was awful.

  28. CHawk Talker Eric

    Woof! Joey Hunt c’mon man

  29. Aaron

    Little Joey Hunt…is he alive???

  30. Coleslaw

Refs make a 6 point swing to start the game, sweet!

  31. Rob Staton

That’s the Seahawks D we know and loathe.

  32. Rob Staton

What a horrific start. This was going to be hard enough tonight without a joke flag to call back a pick, Clowney and Flowers injuries and Joey Hunt blocking like my mum.

    • Volume12

      ‘Blocking like my mum’ 😂😭

  33. Aaron

    Diggs…oof! Trey Flowers…NO!!!

  34. WALL UP

    Injuries have taken a toll.

  35. CaptainJack

Can’t imagine a much more terrible start.

  36. Kingdome1976

2 crap penalties and Britts absence…..you can go up a few posts for hunt.

  37. Rob Staton

This has gone from encouraging to a nightmare in 5 minutes.

  38. Aaron

    🤮🤮🤮

  39. Volume12

lol. I shouldn’t be laughing, but this defense looks clueless.

    • Volume12

      Lifeless for sure.

  40. Rob Staton

Just look at who we’re playing at DE on this drive.

    Jackson and Green.

    Says it all.

And the back end are just totally unreliable as a safety net.

  41. Carla

    No injuries

  42. Tony

Refs early flags completely changed this start. Just hope we weather the storm until the momentum changes.

  43. Aaron

    🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

  44. taxspecialist

Seahawks need to hold the 9ers. The refs did not help them at all on the first drive and hopefully we can get some makeup calls although I doubt it. Injuries are deadly.

  45. Rob Staton

The defense is absolutely painful to watch.

    This is who we are.

    • Aaron

We’re a 10-6 team imo, but that’s what I thought before the season began.

      • Rob Staton

I thought 10-6 too. But never in a million years thought the defense could be this bad.

        • Aaron

Agreed, they’re one of the worst units in the league.

  46. Volume12

Taylor is flaming hot gar baj.

  47. WALL UP

Need to switch up the nickle with Ugo

    • WALL UP

      Taylor is 3 steps behind.

    • Rob Staton

Easier said than done when you’ve spent all week game planning with this personnel.

      • WALL UP

Kyle sees the weak link.. He’ll keep picking on it until there is a change.

        • Rob Staton

And putting in a rookie who hasn’t spent all week in the plan isn’t eliminating a weak link.

  48. CHawk Talker Eric

    Bollux

  49. Aaron

    Taylor……………………😔😔😔

  50. Rob Staton

I mean we are just absolutely rubbish on defense. It’s incredible.

No pressure, no players making any plays on the back end. Linebackers who are caught in the middle.

Not one thing to hang our hat on other than Clowney roaring around.

Just make it January already and let’s get on with rebuilding the unit.

    • Simo

In fairness, a Shaq pick was called back by a cheap penalty.

  51. CaptainJack

Looked way too easy. No pressure as usual.

  52. Redzone086

The sad part is it’s the small stuff that is making it so painful

  53. Tony

Disappointing. I would’ve loved to see that pick happen. Much different game. Much different attitude. Now niners are hyped and seahawks have to now crawl back against one of the best teams in football. Refs are too involved in every game. This year is a disaster in officiating. And it’s really hurting the product.

    • Simo

Agree, disappointing! Also agree that the refs are ruining the NFL. Gonna have to stick to college football, where they actually let the teams play the game!!

  54. Volume12

Fred Warner is one of the best young LBers in the league

  55. mishima

    D is trash.

If our offense can’t keep our D off the field, it’s going to get ugly…uglier.

    • Rob Staton

It’ll be 17-0 in five mins.

    • mishima

By the time I finished typing, we were punting.

      Good lord.

  56. Rob Staton

DK Metcalf is 6-4 and couldn’t box out a sandwich.

    • Volume12

That was a bad throw. Gave him no chance

  57. CHawk Talker Eric

No flag? Are you freaking kidding me? If Taylor had a PI on Flowers’ INT, then surely Mosely just had a PI on DK

    Unbelievable

    • Rob Staton

      Lots of contact for sure.

But DK needs to go and get it. He’s too big to just get washed out like that. Mike Evans, Julio — that’s who he wants to be. Go and get it. They would.

  58. Volume12

Amadi out here consistently looking like an All-Pro gunner.

    • Simo

Let’s use him as the nickel, Taylor just can’t stay with any of their receivers!

    • Denver Hawker

This could get ugly in a hurry. Time of possession isn’t favorable and the D is going to get worn out quickly. The 3rd down conversions are brutal.

I’m curious how Shotty will adjust.

  59. Hawks4life

The optimism in this thread is relentless tonight. I feel the pain but let’s act like this was who we were all along! Russell is a one man show and we all know it.

  60. Volume12

That was dangerous. And not in a good way from SF

  61. Trevor

Relax guys it is not like this team has not started slow before.

    • Rob Staton

      Indeed.

But sorry Trev, this is different this. San Fran are a different class. We’re a mile off here. This is what we are.

      • Coleslaw

Seems you’ve already made up your mind.

      • Coleslaw

Weve ran like 10 plays and “this is what we are”

        Really Rob? Come on.

And you complain about Seahawks twitter…..

      • Tony

I disagree. While they probably are overall better. I dont think mile ahead. This just looks like saints game where shit went wrong early and we fell deep fast. Momentum is a thing. And in both instances a couple of big calls/plays just ignited one side.

If 10-6 is our ability this year, that’s still a good team. And with russ, were always dangerous.

  62. Rob Staton

Come on DK… turn up field

    • CHawk Talker Eric

See he doesn’t have any agility 🙄

    • Kenny Sloth

He’s gonna get cracked if he doesnt get his head on a swivel there

  63. Aaron

    Ifedi!!! 😡😡😡

    • Kenny Sloth

That was a late snap by Joey Hunt dude. The whole line looked at him after they all went ‘early’ together.

Dont be so quick to jump on OL heads. It’s a cohesion thing and has a lot to do with what the QB is seeing

  64. Tony

That punt play was well drawn.

  65. Aaron

Yep…I’m out. Let me know if it ever gets close.

  66. Tony

Field gulls crashed lol. Probably for the best.

  67. CaptainJack

    Russ is playing great.

But has no help. Terrible job by Iupati there… looking like he has no idea what he’s supposed to do.

    • Rob Staton

      Nobody’s playing great.

Russell hasn’t had a chance to play great yet.

      We’re getting punked.

      • Volume12

        If anyone, I’d say Clowney

      • CaptainJack

Just took about ten men to tackle Debbo Samuel. LOL

  68. WALL UP

Things can be corrected. This will be a key series.

  69. downtownjewelrybryan

can you win in the second quarter?

    • Rob Staton

You can lose in the first half.

      • Coleslaw

        Go get on Twitter.

  70. Rob Staton

    FFS our tackling is DREADFUL

    • Volume12

Clowney playing his a** off. Not much nore he could there. Has been providing pressure and they still give up a 1st down after 1st down.

  71. CaptainJack

WHO ON EARTH IS NUMBER 24

    get them off the field!

  72. CHawk Talker Eric

Nice play by Diggs. Good to see him mix it up

  73. CaptainJack

Kendricks can’t get off a block

  74. Coleslaw

Everybody calm the f down. It’s a 10 point game. Weve ran 10 plays and everybody acts like were down 30-0

    • Coleslaw

Russ has looked good when hes had time to throw. We can get this going.

    • WALL UP

      Here, here…next is the adjustments

    • WallaSean

Word. Who is surprised by this? Who will be surprised in the 4 th quarter when it’s close?

  75. Volume12

    Good stop.

  76. CHawk Talker Eric

There we go! Finally get off the field on 3rd down

  77. downtownjewelrybryan

    so holding is ok tonight

    • taxspecialist

      just not when seattle holds

  78. WALL UP

    Game on

  79. CHawk Talker Eric

Isn’t that an illegal helmet to helmet hit by Sherman on Lockett?

  80. CHawk Talker Eric

Seeing some fight in the offense. They aren’t lying down

  81. Ishmael

Tackling is incredibly easy to get right, madness that it’s fallen off this far. Eyes are being taken off the ball regarding fundamentals, and that’s a serious issue. I don’t know who that responsibility falls on, but that’s where I’d start looking at changes.

  82. mishima

Sherm should have been flagged for targeting / head-to-head.

    • Aaron

Yeah, that was two guys on SF with helmet to helmet contact on that play.

  83. CHawk Talker Eric

This is a bad spot. Carson’s forward progress was farther

  84. Hawks4life

What a pathetic play call for 3rd and 1 lmfao.

    • Volume12

Warner is so, so good. They wont miss a beat with w/o Kwon Alexander due to him.

    • Kenny Sloth

What a pathetic play call for 3rd and 1 lmfao

  85. Volume12

There we go! Reed & Clowney!

  86. CHawk Talker Eric

    Must. Resign. Clowney.

    • Volume12

He’s been the best player on the field in Wolf Grey tonight.

Reed has the most upside on this defense. Nowhere close to the level we’ve seen him play at.

      • CHawk Talker Eric

Hey I’m totally fine with resigning both if Reed keeps this up

Love the Wolf Greys. My favorite unis

  87. CHawk Talker Eric

Bully for Reed! That was huge

  88. Ishmael

Clowney’s having a big boy game, encouraging to see. Reed starting to heat up as well?

  89. downtownjewelrybryan

    🤡 interesting 🤡

    • downtownjewelrybryan

there’s that BAMF in the back!

      • downtownjewelrybryan

        OOOOOH WEEE!

  90. CHawk Talker Eric

Let’s get off the field and give Russell a chance to at least tie this before the half

  91. Volume12

    Clowney is $ tonight.

    • mishima

      Prime Time.

    • CHawk Talker Eric

He’s outplaying all other DL — on either team.

  92. DC

I want to see a 3 and out or pick…want to see Blair make an impact play to end the half. If they can get a quick stop and get 3 points by the end of the half, huge momentum swing.

  93. Trevor

Imagine that the Hawks are turning things around.

    • Frontrower

Hawks starting to punch back. Now we got a game!!

  94. CHawk Talker Eric

Can’t believe that one ref was going to rule it a catch. WTF man?!?

    • Volume12

Lol. Said the same thing to myself

    • mishima

McDougald made him look like Super Dave Osborne.

  95. WALL UP

It’s a game of adjustments. Pete is going to make them.

  96. taxspecialist

That was a huge stop. Really impressed with the defense tonight other than Jamar Taylor who has appeared over his head. Really would like to see Blair MacDougald and Diggs … if necessary Amani as Tayor just seems to be lost and not able to tackle. Go Hawks!

  97. CHawk Talker Eric

We also get the ball at the half, right?

  98. Coleslaw

I was just about to say we should run a screen to Metcalf!

    • Volume12

Was he down? Was Tartt outta bounds?

      • CHawk Talker Eric

That’s what I thought. Also looked like maybe DK stepped on the line.

      • DC

Tartt was touching the ball while Metcalf was in bounds…does that make it a dead ball?

      • Volume12

        Dammit!

    • Coleslaw

Oh man its gonna be a touchback.. unless there’s some rule about defender being out of bounds.

      • Coleslaw

        I’m not sure it’s not a TD

      • Denver Hawker

Looked like metcalf had his hand on it while traveling into the end zone though.

        • Coleslaw

Exactly. Idk how they overturned that.

  99. CaptainJack

One of the craziest plays I have ever seen.

  100. Tony

That’s the shit that gets me. Careless Dk. That’s the rookie showing. We had it at the 1.

  101. Trevor

I would love to see the Hawks replace Taylor with Amadi in the slot or even Diggs and put Blair back at Safety.

    • Kenny Sloth

I’ve been really cold on Taylor since camp and I dont see it coming together enough

  102. CaptainJack

    Silly Silly by DK

  103. DC

sums up our season right there.

  104. Trevor

Huge mistake D.K.! Carson and Metcalf fight for yards but it burns them sometimes and they need to focus on holding onto that ball.

    • Tony

Fight for yards, but have some damn awareness. Atleast situationally. Would have been 1st and goal at the 3 with a minute left and 3 time outs. Not the time to try some superman shit. Especially spinning one handed with a guy ripping at the ball.

  105. Volume12

Seattle had momentum. And thats what its all about. F**k!!

  106. Tony

That’s more pts off the board. We keep making huge mental mistakes in every game it seems. Just play clean football guys. God what a dumb play by Dk.

  107. Rob Staton

That DK play and the refs blowing the pick… the type of luck we needed tonight and aren’t getting.

    • Volume12

Such gritty effort from DK too. Ya hate to see it not get rewarded somehow.

  108. DC

Even after such an ugly half…refs, and shooting ourselves in the foot, its still only a 3 point game…

  109. DC

The ESPN gamecast has Russ 7/10, for -24 yards. Classic ESPN

  110. Kenny Sloth

Get the ball back and score. Keep feeding our WR and giving Carson his touches. Need to control more of this clock and help Clowney

  111. Rob Staton

The offense had 0 points in the first half.

Which is ominous seeing as we needed them to try and win the game for us.

Fair play to the defense fighting back but they still look really, really, really susceptible.

    • Volume12

You said it best. Much different game if thst INT from Shaq stood and DK doesnt get stripped. Probably a 2 score game in our favor.

      • Rob Staton

I think 13-7 or something would’ve been realistic. But not necessarily fair. We’ve been second best and are in this thanks to a great defensive play. The pick should’ve meant 0 instead of 3 for SF on the first drive. But they moved the ball easily on the next drive.

  112. Hawks4life

I guarantee the 9ers locker room is more flustered than ours with the outcome of the 1st half. They dominated on all levels yet are up by 3 points. Russell is calm cool and collective and is preaching to a young team as we speak. Put the half behind us and keep marching.

    • Rob Staton

I think both teams will be flat and need raising.

The 49ers for the reasons you give. Seattle because of that massive momentum swing right at the end with the fumble.

  113. taxspecialist

Clowney having a monster game. Really like our pass rush tonight together with the blitzes. Stop the run first … Samuel getting some yards but willing to give them up. Seahawks have life at the half. For a bit I thought we might get blown out but this is a game. Be still my heart.

  114. CaptainJack

I think we need to try to run the ball more in order to win this game.

    • Rob Staton

      Clearly.

  115. jopa726

Seahawks are right there. How about scoring a Touchdown on a strip/sack and fumble? How about that for a pressuring the 49ers QB.

Nobody would have predicted that our defense would be keeping us in the game at halftime. Now let’s go Hawks! Win the second half. Win the game.

  116. Coleslaw

I was predicting 2 TOs for us, didnt expect 1 on the 1st play and 2 in the 1st half. Too bad the first one didnt stand. Likely a 6 point swing.

I also was predicting us to have 0 so… lol

  117. CD

How does a guy loose possession when his hand stays on the ball the entire time and it crosses the goal line? Again, when does a player loose possession?

  118. Volume12

    Good play call

  119. Volume12

What a god damn play from Russ!

  120. Volume12

    OMG!

    • Trevor

Hawks are not good enough to withstand screw ups like that by Penney. Too bad because we looked good coming out of the half.

  121. mishima

Penny needs to check his head.

  122. Tony

Penny smh. Not a way to get more touches.

  123. CaptainJack

    Penny is a bust!

  124. Rob Staton

What’s going on with these fumbles!?!

10 in 10 games and counting!

    • Coleslaw

Gotta be a fluke, right? *fingers crossed*

  125. DC

When is Prosise or Homer going to get some touches?

  126. taxspecialist

Damn we cant play giving them the ball. Error free football yah right. Two huge fumbles.

  127. CaptainJack

    More terrible penalties!

  128. DC

    Here comes the implosion

  129. Canadian Hawk

D-Line is playing as well as they have all year.

    • John_s

The middle pressure is huge for this Seattle dline

  130. taxspecialist

Taylor again not covering well and letting his man get extra yards. He is such a huge liability

  131. Trevor

Clowney looks like the dominant force we need him to be tonight. Making everyone around him better.

  132. Volume12

    Big stop thanks to Clowney.

  133. Hawks4life

Let’s start ramping up the list of RB in the draft because Penny clearly isn’t the answer we need. I wanted to love him and give him a shot but he just isn’t doing it for us. Not enough positive for how much negative, the lack of opportunities are an indicator as well.

    • mishima

IMO, Penny has the talent to start in the NFL. Right now, heart ain’t in it. Running scared.

      • DC

They need to run to his strengths, stop running him up the middle.

      • Hawks4life

I think the pure talent is clear but the dedication conditioning and mindset isn’t. I think he came in thinking he’d be the number 1 and his confidence has suffered because of it.

  134. taxspecialist

I will really hate it if we lose this game. Clowney and defensive line playing well…. blitz packages appear good. Offense needs to step up big time.

  135. CaptainJack

Defense is waking up for the first time this season. Now we need the offense to stop turning the ball over!

  136. Trevor

Hawks have made a ton of mistakes got some bad pentaly calls and still only trail by 3. I don’t bye this talk about SF being so much better.

    • Rob Staton

They’re playing without their starting TE, top WR, #2 corner, their starting MLB and their NT and backup MLB are now out injured. The center left the game for a period too.

  137. CaptainJack

Sorry but impossible to win this game if the offense can’t convert third downs

    • Rob Staton

Well they’ve scored 0 points. Hard to win if the offense doesn’t score.

      • 12th chuck

why we don’t try a screen on 3rd is baffling

        • Rob Staton

Well they’ve done screens tonight — can’t do it every time.

  138. CHawk Talker Eric

I’ve seen enough Fluker for the night. Time to sub in Jones. He couldn’t possibly be worse.

  139. DC

    22 yard punt. Awesome.

    • Rob Staton

      No idea why they re-kicked.

      • Pran

        9ers needed some..

      • Volume12

        Was stunned they did that.

  140. Pran

So much for the elite offense… playing conservative and scared!

    • John_s

Can’t do anything when the pocket collapses or the receivers are covered. Good lord

      • Pran

It’s an elite offense.. bottom 5 defense outplayed offense for once.

  141. John_s

Can’t wait for the Niner Dcoordinator to be the next head coach bust. But he’ll cheer heard as hell though

    • Volume12

Hes got a lot of PC in him. IMO he’ll be a good one

      • Pran

Too much show off .. with so many first round picks and investment went in to that D.

  142. Volume12

    Diggs!!

    • Canadian Hawk

      HUGE!!!

  143. mishima

    Diggin’ it.

  144. taxspecialist

Can we just stop fumbling the ball…. wtf

  145. Mac

    Bring in Prosise already

  146. Forty20

Someone in the coaching department needs to find a way to mad scientist tonight’s defence with the offence from the rest of the season.

  147. Volume12

    What a catch!

  148. Hawks4life

I mean how good is russell wilson…. once in a generation type player. Let’s go boys!!!!!

  149. Volume12

Russ is fired the f**k up! Let’s goooo

  150. Rob Staton

    Keep going lads

  151. Rob Staton

    OMG there’s 20 mins left

    • Pran

Can we call it done ..

  152. CaptainJack

    This Hollister fellow… pretty good!

  153. Trevor

Hawks wirh Pete and Russ have had lots of bad starts but find a way to stay in games and keep it tight down the stretch.

    • Trevor

This officiating is an absolute joke and ruining the NFL. Every week is the same garbage.
      Unreal how bad it is!

      • Pran

Refs trying max to help 9ers

  154. Volume12

    Bullsh** call

    • Volume12

      Clowney is on 🔥

      • CHawk Talker Eric

        Unstoppable

      • Volume12

        Again!

      • Hawks4life

Hes a must keep! But these calls are ridiculous I mean c’mon let them play. Clowney again wow just wow

      • Trevor

Absolute beast! Dominating on every snap wow.

  155. Canadian Hawk

When the HELL did we turn into the 85 Bears?!?!?!?

    BOOM!!!!!!

  156. CHawk Talker Eric

    Clowney is unreal tonight

    • Volume12

Why u make that trade for him. Has been the best player on either team in the biggest game of the season in the NFL

    • CHawk Talker Eric

Reed was right there too on that play

  157. Forty20

Bit of credit to Jarran Reed there as well. He arrived and stripped the ball at the same time as Clowney.

  158. KD

Clowney HAS to be the centerpiece of this defense going forward. Guy is an absolute MONSTER!!!!

  159. Trevor

Clowney is having the most dominant defensive game I have seen from a Seahawks Defensive player in a long time.

  160. Rob Staton

    Keep going lads.

    • Simo

I sure hope you find it in your heart to give the defense some love Rob! Stepping up tonight!

  161. WALL UP

    How ya like me now!!

  162. Rob Staton

    OMG there’s 16 minutes left.

  163. Volume12

Clowney is the definition of a game changer.

  164. Hawks4life

As rough as moments in this season has been it’s just a breath of fresh air how this team comes together. Some real fight in this group with clear leaders of the future. Gaps to fill yes but wow this is great to see

    • Volume12

This has looked much more like the PC/Seahawk D we all know and love. Granted, we got 1 more quarter of ball.

  165. KD

Hawks got the momentum now, just hold on to that and keep rolling!

  166. Rob Staton

    Don’t go soft now plz

    • Pran

Only 11 up.. Hope offense can put together a time killing drive. All 21 came off short field and defense turnovers.

      • Rob Staton

Indeed. The offense is going to need at least another drive of note.

        • taxspecialist

          you need a like button

    • downtownjewelrybryan

      thats what she…..nevermind. SEAAAAA!!!!

      • Rob Staton

        lol

    • Aaron

Have to stay aggressive and can’t afford to let up.

  167. Trevor

Reed and Poona look like the DT tandem we were all hoping through for 3Q I hope they can finish it off.

  168. John_s

FINISH! 15 mins left. Don’t let up

  169. taxspecialist

Clowney has been a beast but entire defense has been so much better than expected tonight. So nice to not play prevent Need to continue and keep it up … unbelievable how well Seattle has played defensively especially given that I believe they have gotten the short end of calls.

    • Pran

      PRIME TIME

  170. WALL UP

Look for 2 high safety coverage.

    • WALL UP

      Russ time

  171. downtownjewelrybryan

we got a dawg on the loose back there!

  172. John_s

Quan Diggs is making a huge difference. Huge upgrade over the T2 experience

    • Rob Staton

      Enjoying the hits so far

  173. WALL UP

    Russ time

    • WALL UP

He may put em away this drive…

  174. CaptainJack

So far Diggs is looking like a really good trade

  175. Ishmael

A million flags get thrown if Brady gets hit by three people going down like that.

Massive turnaround game. How good has Clowney been? One of the best games of his pro career

  176. Trevor

It is amazing how much better Pete’s defense looks when there is a pass rush.

  177. CHawk Talker Eric

Diggs is a welcome addition to the backfield. Aside from the pick, dude’s layin heavy wood tonight.

  178. Volume12

What. In. The. F**k was that?

  179. Rob Staton

    Unbelievable.

    • Hawks4life

Game of the year? I know Ifedi wasn’t anticipating that but get your ass on the ground for goodness sake…

      • Rob Staton

        It’s a total mess.

  180. DC

    you gotta be kidding me

  181. CaptainJack

Come on Russ… Take the Sack.

    • Volume12

Ifedi basically ripped it out. What do u mean?

  182. Aaron

    😳😳😳😱😱😱

  183. Mac

    lol

  184. Rob Staton

For crying out loud lads. 11 Fumbles for the season.

    • Trevor

      Unacceptable!

    • Volume12

      Why’d he rip it out?

  185. Trevor

It can never be simple for the Hawks. This would be a blowout if not for the 3 fumbles. Instead it is 3 pt game.

  186. Rob Staton

Why didn’t Ifedi just go down!?!?

    • Kenny Sloth

      Screamed the same.

  187. CaptainJack

    Soooooo sloppy… All game long.

  188. Mac

At this point, I wish we had mike Davis for his pass pro. Russ should of been more aware, can’t put much on Ifedi.

  189. DC

let opponents hang out all too long. need points out of this drive, at a minimum flip field position

  190. WALL UP

I diffidently did not see that coming

  191. Canadian Hawk

OK offense…let’s go….been doing it all year.

  192. Ishmael

    WHY!?

Jesus. If you’re going to grab the ball get down. Unbelievable.

  193. Pran

Why the refs did not blow the whistle when QB gave up being tackled by 3 defenders and then all of a sudden Ifedi shows up causing fumble..

This team can never put two hands on the ball..time after time..ridiculous

  194. Denver Hawker

Obvious facemask on the fumble play.

Is it just me or are these ESPN announcers awful?

    • Pran

      Refs are calling home field

  195. taxspecialist

how wasnt that pi he was all lover DK

    • Denver Hawker

It was. These refs are terrible.

  196. taxspecialist

that is an awful call… how is that a bad tackle

  197. Volume12

Just take the returns outta the game.

  198. CaptainJack

Defense has been a joke all game long!!!

    • CaptainJack

      I meant offense!!

  199. Aaron

    Thorpe… NOOO!!!

  200. DC

Saints game anyone? We do not deserve to win this one.

  201. Hawks4life

Good play by Sherman… I guess. But if that was Seattle tonight it would’ve been PI. Then the this call lmfao I mean c’mon let’s just put flags on players and play touch football. Seahawks have got zero calls today

  202. Rob Staton

It’s the hope that gets you.

We had the game in control!!!

    • taxspecialist

Big plays for Seattle (ie interception called back) whereas San Fran gets the defensive td when there was a facemask and no call.. yes we had the game in hand but …

    • Volume12

Would love to see what this team would like with all 3 units on the same page.

  203. CaptainJack

    Now defense is melting down!

    • Rob Staton

It’s what happens when momentum shifts dramatically.

  204. Ishmael

Energy totally sucked out of the defence. A couple of moments of madness could well end up costing the Hawks in a big way tonight.

    • Rob Staton

It’s just incredible how quickly it flipped.

  205. Aaron

    KJ………..NOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  206. Pran

Offense sucked big time.. This offense can’t score a field goal on its own. Hope D can stop them

  207. Rob Staton

Just in absolute shock that like 15 minutes ago we were leading by 11 with the ball and now it’s tied.

    HOW!?!?

    • Pran

6 min to go…where do points come from.

      • Rob Staton

Well, they’ve got to find something.

Plus not turn it over again.

  208. Volume12

Can not believe Flowers didn’t make that play.

  209. CHawk Talker Eric

    Aaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!

  210. Rob Staton

Last year we tossed away a game in Santa Clara.

    Please don’t happen again.

  211. WALL UP

Ok, this is the game on this next drive.

  212. Volume12

Im not one for complaining sbout the umps, but they’ve been flat-out bad tonight.

    • Rob Staton

      Absolutely terrible.

    • CHawk Talker Eric

Truly awful. It’s embarrassing for the League.

  213. Rob Staton

Just realised how quiet Lockett has been.

  214. Tony

I dont like being that guy but this is some one sided bs. Eliminate the blatant bias reffing and then let’s talk about score. From shaq pick and on it’s been a one sided deal. Refs are really dictating most games this year and it’s not even close.

  215. taxspecialist

Big plays for Seattle (ie interception called back) whereas San Fran gets the defensive td when there was a facemask and no call.. yes we had the game in hand but …

  216. downtownjewelrybryan

    can we switch divisions

    • Volume12

There was a rumor that Seattle would be 1 of 2 teams considered to be moved to the AFCW if the Chargers go to London. I highly doubt the Chargets do though.

      • Coleslaw

        I’d be down.

  217. Hawks4life

    How bad is Booger Mcfarland…

    • downtownjewelrybryan

the ex ref who chimes in is waaay worse

      • Hawks4life

Both are terrible. At least it’s not Aikman

    • icb12

I watch it on mute and have Westwood 1 with Kevin Harlan on the radio play for sound…

Not quite synced up.. but better than booger

  218. CHawk Talker Eric

    Huge first down

  219. Rob Staton

We can’t leave them three minutes to drive for a FG here.

    • Volume12

      Big time conversion there

  220. downtownjewelrybryan

refs DYING to throw a flag on russ right there. “the tackler was a defenseless player”

    • Volume12

      lol

    • Pran

      Need a first down

  221. CHawk Talker Eric

    This is four down territory

  222. DC

is our kicker going to come through?

  223. CHawk Talker Eric

    Hello JG!

  224. downtownjewelrybryan

    ok guys/gals….BREATHE

  225. Rob Staton

This is why play-calling is so tough.

You want to keep your foot down here. But a sack and it’s a killer. If you run, you risk getting stuffed twice and not being in FG range.

    I seriously don’t know what I’d do.

  226. Tony

Cant settle for conservative play here. Dont play for fg.

  227. WALL UP

As mentioned earlier, the haven’t played their best game as yet. They are getting better.

  228. Hawks4life

Regardless of how this game ends it shows we can compete with any team in the NFL.

  229. Trevor

There are no great teams in the NFC this year. It is wide open for whomever gets hot in the playoffs.

  230. Frontrower

    Flash!! Ah ah!!

  231. Ishmael

I feel ill. This is the most I’ve cared about a Hawks game in years.

    Play to win boys

  232. John_s

    Gotta play for the touchdown

  233. Volume12

    Didn’t Russ call a TO?

  234. CHawk Talker Eric

A first down here plus no turnovers will seal the game

  235. CHawk Talker Eric

Welp. That should’ve been delay of game

  236. DC

    why did we call timeout???

  237. Volume12

Tough call there. Damned if ya, damned if ya don’t. Clutch kick.

  238. Aaron

    Here we go folks!

  239. Andrew Taylor

Now please God stop them… Please no prevent we have been playing well on defense. Don’t go prevent.

  240. Forty20

You better believe Myers loved that!

  241. CHawk Talker Eric

Time to send in the Clowney

  242. Denver Hawker

Booger is the worst. CBS and Fox B teams are better. He does no homework. Wish I could listen to the radio.

  243. DC

Here we go…big cushions, guys get 10-15 yards, plenty of time for SF. We’ve seen this play out too many times before. Hopefully the DL can step up big here.

    • Volume12

      🙏

  244. Volume12

    KJ! Nooo. 😭

    • Volume12

      BWagz! Nooo 😭

      • Volume12

How many potential INTs have this D dropped tonight

  245. Trevor

Do Clowney or Reed have one more sack in them. Come on K.J. you need to get that one!

  246. DC

1st time I’ve heard Ansah’s name called tonight.

  247. CaptainJack

    TIME TO CUT ANSAH

  248. Ishmael

Two dropped interceptions that Rob’s mum could have caught. This game man. How many backbreaking mistakes.

Unreal clutch kick from a rookie. Defence looks gassed. Better hope Wilson gets first crack at things.

  249. DC

classic. Saw it coming. Seen this defense under Pete give up way too many end of game field goals, even during the LOB

  250. Rob Staton

    Two dropped picks man.

    • Pran

      3 including Flowers..
Not getting that 3rd and 1 sucked

  251. Aaron

    We going to OT folks…again!

  252. CaptainJack

Choke jobs by the defense. Classic

  253. Volume12

What a game. What a game

  254. Trevor

K.J. and Bobby both had a shot to close things out. Off to OT instead.

    • DC

They’re a shell of their former selves. Bobby is still making tackles but their 5-8 yards from the LOS. Sad to see your favorite players decline.

  255. WALL UP

    Good game..

  256. DC

We need to cut Ansah and at least save the per game bonuses he gets for next years cap

  257. CaptainJack

What positive play has Ansah made all year?

  258. Aaron

    Alright Russ, finish the job!

  259. taxspecialist

agree had a couple of really good chances to intercept and couldn’t do it…. seattle just hasnt been able to get 2nd or 3rd and one.. seem to be running into the middle lots and just dont understand it. We need to move the ball and drive down for a td… really nervous here

  260. DC

This is where Russ wins MVP.

  261. Rob Staton

    High point DK.

  262. CHawk Talker Eric

    DK gotta hold onto that

  263. Volume12

Dont tell me Lockett is hurt 🤦‍♂️

  264. Volume12

What kinda call was that? Trash

  265. Hawks4life

That call was terrible but russ bailed is put. WOW

    • Pran

Same type of call Refs did not call down and costed us 7 points.. Worst officiating

  266. CHawk Talker Eric

Perfect throw on the run by Wilson

  267. downtownjewelrybryan

    there goes our momentum

  268. Volume12

    Wow

  269. CHawk Talker Eric

    Nightmare

    • Pran

Russ sucked.. Throwing those soft throws through out the season…

  270. DC

welp, can’t expect Russell to do it everytime.

    • Volume12

      Knocking on the door too

  271. Ishmael

Heartbreaker. After all those Hawks drops as well.

  272. CaptainJack

    I’m pissed off.

So many sloppy mistakes… taking away from amazing plays from the defense. It honestly pisses me off!

  273. Ishmael

It hasn’t been a full screwjob, but this is real peak home town reffing. All those little 50-50s you just don’t get.

    • taxspecialist

way more than 50 /50’s this game had a ton of calls go San Frans way… damn Seattle go downfield and win this

  274. Pran

    It’s not our game..L

    • Coleslaw

      Or is it

  275. Andrew Taylor

Seahawks got screwed but could have won. Just had to make picks in regular time when ball hit Bobby and KJ in hands or in OT just had to not throw pick. It shouldnt have even come to that in that they got call after call…

    • Pran

This pro active help 9ers officiating sucks..2nd time they are doing it on their own

  276. Volume12

    We got life fellas!

    • Volume12

      What. A. Game.

  277. Coleslaw

    HE MISSED IT!!!

    THERE IS A GOD

    • Pran

Hope it was the previous kick

    • taxspecialist

I am sorry the running it just directly up the middle just hasnt been working I dont understand it

  278. Ishmael

Oh man what a choke. The game that never ends. Once more into the breach dear friends…

  279. Hawks4life

    Meyers time baby!!!

  280. Canadian Hawk

    This GAME!

    WOW!!!!

  281. DC

please don’t end in a tie. convert the 3rd. heck at this point, go for it on 4th.

    • Volume12

      I hate ties myself.

  282. Rob Staton

What a mess of a game.

  283. Pran

    3rd and 2 again…oh dear god

  284. DC

gotta love how we manage our timeouts and the clock. As much as I love Pete, the 2 things he’s always terrible at, challenges and timeouts/end of half

  285. CaptainJack

WHY DID WE JUST WASTE OUR LAST TIMEOUT

  286. Rob Staton

D.K. has not won a high-point all night.

    • Volume12

      Bit of a body catcher.

  287. Hawks4life

Metcalf is not the guy you go to on that play, I’m sorry.

  288. Volume12

    Metcalf. Come on man.

    • Pran

I am sick of offense tonight….

  289. DC

Its going to end in a tie.

  290. CHawk Talker Eric

DK has some ugly misses tonight

  291. Coleslaw

Rumore has it DKs hands are literal bricks

  292. CaptainJack

WHY ON EARTH DID WE JUST PUNT

  293. DC

Dickson’s punting this year has left a lot to be desired.

  294. John_s

Dickson has been bad this year

  295. DC

Is that Shaquem I see rushing the passer?!

  296. Volume12

Can we please come down with one of these? Please.

    • Volume12

Great play from Shaq. Layed it all out there

      • 12th chuck

Shaq has had a solid year. I have been very critical of him in the past, but he is having a great year!!

  297. Pran

Jimmy keeps giving..some one gotta catch it.

  298. DC

come on Russ, one last chance!

  299. CHawk Talker Eric

Griffen has evolved into quite the corner

  300. DC

    1. Our defense can’t catch anything, should have 5 picks. and 2. Finally put somebody other than Lockett on returns!

  301. Volume12

    Ball game boys!

    • CHawk Talker Eric

      What a night!

  302. CHawk Talker Eric

    OMFG

    • Volume12

      I am spent. Just drained.

      Russ done did it again.

      • CHawk Talker Eric

What can you say, he’s the MVP. Too bad he laid that pass to Hollister a little soft. He’d have won the game right there if they’d connected.

And to think, a week ago we were DONE with Myers 😂

  303. Trevor

What an ugly game but such a beautiful win!!!!!!!

    • Volume12

If your not a fan of either team it’s a classic. Still might be.

      • charlietheunicorn

After some real stinker “prime time” games this year.. lived up to the hype.

  304. mishima

Too old for this shit. Great game.

    • taxspecialist

Me too. I think I almost killed my dog.. he has been going crazy because I keep screaming.

  305. Aaron

OH MY GOODNESS…………..😱😱😱……BOOM BABY!!! Humongous victory!!!

  306. DC

5 sacks! defense played mostly well, offense struggled against a really good D. I’ll take an ugly win in the division any day, especially on the road! Is it possible to win the division and have a worse overall record?

  307. Trevor

That’s so huge for Myers content going forward! Absolutely huge.

  308. Ishmael

Outrageous win. Rivalry is back. Won’t see many crazier games than that, one for the ages. Hope Rob didn’t stroke out before he had a chance to write his recap

  309. Volume12

    No.

  310. CHawk Talker Eric

I reckon Rob woke the kids again

    • Hawks4life

      Haha love it!

  311. glor

    HOLY CRAP

  312. Tony Marble

What a TEAM win. Got 2 weeks to now heal up with the injuries sustained tonight to Lockett and others to be ready to go into Philly and play.

  313. CHawk Talker Eric

We are, however improbably, 8-2, and only a half game behind the division leader.

  314. Ben Ft. Worth

    YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Is it just me….or did it feel like the ref’s were against us…again??!!!

    • Hawks4life

Totally against us, NFL seems to love undefeated teams…

  315. Denver Hawker

Just sign Clowney now. Don’t wait. Pay that man.

    • taxspecialist

Have to wait not allowed to resign him till after the season

  316. 12th chuck

finally some pass rush!! time to let griffin take over ziggys spot!!

  317. Donovan

Over 500 comments on an SDB thread? A sign of interest, the game’s tension, and probably an SDB record.

    Go Hawks!

  318. WALL UP

Good thing about this team is that they’re going to get better. They’re starting to get the rush that is needed, and the back end is becoming solidified. This could be a sign of good things ahead. When they put it all together, watch out!

    • WALL UP

I had them 12-4 for the season. It may have to be augmented. I just don’t see this team going .500 the rest of the games.

I’m a little concerned with No E. I hope it isn’t to serious. While he’s out Ursua might get some snaps.

  319. Canadian Hawk

    Fun facts…

This is the Seahawks NFL-leading 3rd win after trailing by at least 10 points this season (also did it last week vs the Bucs).

Russell Wilson is now 6-0 in his career against teams that are at least 8 games above .500.

  320. Tony

I use to feel. But as a devout seahawk fan, I just move around numbingly from room to room. Lost in hope and confusion. Looking for answers of questions I havent thought. Just numb.

    • Gaux Hawks

thank you, an eloquent touch. numbness meets volatility.

it’s takes a few days for the fog to lift… but at least we have a bye week to recover from this one.

  321. Naks8

    Yas!

  322. charlietheunicorn

    All I can say is….WOW

The Defense stepped up and made some plays.

Diggs at Safety. Clowney at DE. All mid season additions that are starting to pay off already.
All I can say, Clowney needs to be resigned. Period.

The OL held up decently. Some blown / missed assignments, but overall played some top notch OL against a formidable DL.

  323. Doug

Optimism is rewarded. I have felt all along that the Seahawks would be 11-5 or 12-4, and tonight the D has come alive! Held the best running game to under 100 yards, good pressure on Jimmy G forcing him into mistakes. Another GW Drive for Russ, who is no doubt the MVP.

Now a week off to heal up and for Flash to learn all the plays. I am loving the Seahawks down the stretch in November/December man.

  324. CaptainJack

Flash Gordon looks like he can really be clutch for us 🙂

  325. neil

The linebackers really need to do ball catching drills. The game should have been over a lot sooner. Anyway the division is not out of reach yet. The 49ers schedule is almost as bad as the Hawks. They have Packers Ravens Saints and Atlanta { with nothing to lose } and us. They could easily lose 3 games more.

    • Frontrower

The physicality is back. Did you see how many niners were banged up, slow getting up, coming out of game? Both sides of the ball. Hollister was bringing it every time he touched the ball. Clowney was a absolute Beast!

      • Frontrower

Oops, wasn’t meant to reply to your post Neil.

      • Rob Staton

Clowney absolutely set the tone tonight. Led from the front. ‘Follow me’.

  326. CHawk Talker Eric

The bye couldn’t come at a better time

  327. Tony

How the hell do I sleep after that.

  328. BobbyK

There are no words except saying how there aren’t any words! Congrats, fellow Hawk fans! Wow!

  329. Saxon

Said last week the Niners were overrated and we’d beat them twice. We almost beat ourselves and then the refs almost beat us but, happily, the prediction remains intact.

I also said we hadn’t yet seen the best of our defense. This was only one game but you can see it’s starting to gel. Getting Diggs was a masterstroke. There are still deficiencies but Carroll does his best work in the second half of the year.

We’re about to really hit our stride.

  330. Del tre

Hey rob, i remember asking you about why they cut Jazz in favor of Malik, if i remember right you said the bottom receiver will realistically only get 10-15 targets and that what he does in practice might matter. This is why i come to this blog, it reminds you of those small aspects, everytime malik turner catches a pass i remember that post and smile. Nice to see that kind of success.
Im not sure why but this kind of stressful win really reminds me that i love football because it brings people together
    Go hawks
