I miss the old indifferent Seahawk logo vs the current angry one.

      • STTBM

That mask is pretty much the coplest thing ever! I buy it was the inspiration. Thanks for sharing that! I read about it a couple years ago, wish I had the book with its pic!

    • Cambs

I think of it as the “Serene Seahawk” and I think it’s markedly better. In Rob’s terms, it’s got a timelessness to it, in part thanks to its local rootedness.

The angry Seahawk looks very much like a whatever logo out of a corporate boardroom. Some XFL team in Tennessee could have that logo.

Don’t know anything at all about the IP issues that Rob referenced in the video, but if I ran the zoo going back to the historic logo would be a non-negotiable. The old unies with the new logo would not be a promising combo imo. You gotta keep it serene.

    • Matthew parker

So much less cartoonish, and closer to the inspiration of the logo.

  2. Chewy

    Make it permanent !!

  3. Jabroni-DC

I have an original logo flag that flies outside the house & an original logo hat. I’ve been holding out on a jersey purchase for many years in the hope that I could get a custom LYNCH jersey in the throwback style. Up to now I could only find Largent & Easley. Hopefully this will present an opportunity for the one that I really want, pairing my favorite Seahawk with my favorite jersey design.

  4. WA Desert Rat

The totem logo should’ve NEVER gone away and these colors are much better than their standards nowadays. I agree with Chewy, make it permanent!

In most cases the original uniforms are the best. Maybe it’s because we get comfortable with the original uniforms. A perfect example is the New York Jets. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/388435536585653155/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/405112928953662214/

    Vs. today’s uniforms. https://www.nfl.com/photos/new-york-jets-new-uniforms-revealed-0ap3000001025240

Love the original Jets uniforms. They were great. I think the teams change uniforms to sell Jersey’s. I am sure there is plenty of other reasons. But as you know. Everything centers around money.

  6. Jabroni-DC

If anyone finds a site that will do a custom throwback LYNCH jersey please let me know. Not having any luck in my search.

    • Palatypus

Well, if you are really little, you might be able to get one from Pop-Warner.

      • Palatypus

…or wear it as a sexy half shirt.

        • Jabroni-DC

I was thinking of a halter top. Better add some roller skates, a giant lollipop & gold front teeth to go with it.

          • Palatypus

            Yes!!!

            • Palatypus

And don’t forget the Daisy Dukes.

Bonus points if you can find Britania.

Gardner Minshew jorts simply won’t do.

    • Creature

I have not tried this myself, but I read on a discussion in the subreddit that if you call/email the Lumen field Pro Shop directly you can place an order for a custom throwback jersey with any name/number. I am saving at the moment or would have done this myself. Give it a shot!

      • Jabroni-DC

Thanks. I’ll report back if it’s a success.

      • Palatypus

Back in the 80″s I.bought an official Seahawks jersey at the Swap N’ Shop in Tacoma that had no name or number on it.

        Probably stolen.

  7. samprassultanofswat

Most of the time the Orginal uniforms are the best. Take for example the Jets. I love their original uniforms. The current uniforms pale compared to their throwback uniforms. I suspect the changing uniforms is done for profit. The bottom life.

  8. Thomas

I like the retro uniforms. I like the retro logo too. It’s supposed to look like a native American totem pole carving and I think that’s cool. It has more character to it and references something unique to the PNW (as far as I know).

I agree that the uniforms might give the players a boost. I think they might help the coaches slightly. I’ll bet they’re more willing to try new things with the new uniforms. It’s probably that much easier to run a different play.

  9. Robbie

I love these uniforms. I bought a jersey already online and it’s one of the few games I’m going to fly back for to attend. I seriously can not wait for that game!!! I already bought my airline tickets as well 🙂 it’s going to be epic.

    • Big Mike

It must have missed it….they announced which game they were wearing them Robbie? Clue me please.

      • cha

Throwbacks for Cleveland Oct 29 has been confirmed by the team.

Bob Condotta tweeted they may also wear them against the Cowboys.

Not sure if this is out there, but my understanding is Seahawks are also scheduled to wear the throwback uniforms for the Nov. 30 game at Dallas. Cowboys wear white at home, so Seattle can wear the same home dark colors.

Did we wear the old uniforms when Emmit Smith broke the NFL rushing record against us? I can’t remember.

        • Big Mike

          Thanks guys

      • Robbie

Yep, home game against the Browns! Looking forward to it!

  10. Tatupu51

Did we sign Witherspoon and Charbonnet or we’re going to start camp without them?

  11. Romeo A57

I do like the look of these throwback uniforms.

On a side note. Is anyone else tiring of the veteran Running Backs are underpaid spiel that is going through sports talk? I get that there isn’t much interesting in the NFL going on before training camp, but move on from this. You are worth what the market says. A mediocre QB might be worth more than a stud RB due to the position’s importance. With 10 seconds left in a game, the kicker might be the most important player on the field, but they make very little compared to many players.

How is Saquon Barkley going to feed his family by only making $10 Million for one year? Very well thank you!

    • cha

Saquon was an interesting contractual anomaly. His 4th year cap was $10m, which would have put his tag number at around $12m. But the 5th year first round option was only $7m so that put him under the $10m franchise tag number.

Rumor has it the Giants offered him 2y/$26m which I thought was smart.

Two tags will be about $22m.

$13m AAV recognizes his talent and also that he has been hurt and never been able to replicate his amazing rookie season.

He obviously rejected it, wanting McCaffrey’s $16m AAV.

      • samprassultanofswat

If Barkley did turn down 2 years at 28 million, he is making a huge mistake. Obviously, Barkley did not learn from the LeVeon Bell fiasco. Barkley is NOT going to get the McCaffrey deal. One reason the Panthers got rid of Barkley is because they realized they overpaid him.

        • Romeo A57

This is exactly right. If the Giants offered him 2 years worth over 20 million he should have signed it in a heartbeat. Don’t repeat what Bell did with the Steelers. Get your money while you can if you are a Running Back. What is to say the RB market doesn’t keep dropping if no teams want to sign an RB after their Rookie Contract.

    • BK26

I’m fine with it. They deserve to get everything that they can. It’s the most abused position in the sport. If they want to fight for more, who cares? It’s probably the only meaningful story for the entire sport for this time of year.

      • Ben

Paraphrasing on of the RB’s quotes, “if I have a great year and rush for a ton of yards, that’s a mark against me.”

I don’t know if there’s any other position in sports that is so directly and immediately correlated to increased usage leading to less value.

And obviously the market rate isn’t wrong, analytics or anecdote driven. You probably shouldn’t pay running backs. So the market sucks for running backs, but I don’t know about you, I want there to be future running backs! Running backs are badass. So if the current outcome in the market is negative and it’s an artificial market, let’s change it. Maybe it opens a whole can of worms but the status quo is kinda lame.

Alternatively or perhaps additionally, the game is too physical for running backs how they are currently used (or how always have been) and that is a problem too.

If it’s a young man’s game, pay the man.

  12. Group Captain Mandrake

I love the original uniforms and I’m glad they are back. I wish they would wear them more than 1-2 time a year if they won’t bring them back full time.

Rob, did my ears deceive me, or did you several times did you say Nike as in rhymes with Mike?

    • Big Mike

He did. Guessing it’s an English pronunciation?

      • Group Captain Mandrake

Or is our version an American pronunciation? I’ve never really thought about it.

  13. LouCityHawk

Overly excited for these, and any associated merchandise, someone in the org decided they wanted to take my money.

As said above, Lynch 24 is a huge miss to not have available at launch. I own many Lynch and BeastMode jerseys. This would be the crown jewel.

Jerseys should be permanent. I will still wear action green when going into enemy territory however.

New contract for Nwosu! Up to 59 mil for three year extension, with 32 mil guaranteed, acording to Schefter.

    • Palatypus

Did it clear any cap room this year?

      • LouCityHawk

Not enough info yet, but I’d bet it is enough to enable them to sign Spoon/Char and the rest of the PS.

    • cha

      I like this move.

A three year deal for Nwosu at 27 means a healthy contract at 30 if he keeps producing.

And it likely opens up some cap room for 2023. About $3-4m I am guessing.

The 2024 cap number is shrinking fast though. If Geno has a good year there is no way they don’t rework his contract or trade him.

      • Brodie

It was really the only extension they could do that made sense – free up cap, good player, good age…

It does make you wonder if they approached Adams about lowering his salary and he wouldn’t budge. Nwosu’s deal certainly isn’t some great value. It feels like they put themselves up against it (as we’ve been talking about for months now) and were forced to pay a bit of a premium as their only means of freeing up cap space.

At the very least, they’ve sorted out the cap for this year and can now sign Witherspoon & Charbonnet and have room for a cut day DT, along with the practice squad/injury pool.

I’m glad it’s done, but their cap management has been about as effective as their early season defensive scheming lately. Hopefully we can wash our hands of a few of these contracts next year.

The retro colorway is so much more fun than the current mono-navy blue home uniforms. That being said, I like their current logo (mean hawk) and uni designs better than the old ones.

  17. Mort

I guess I am the odd one who likes the current uniforms more than the retro ones. In the past I have gotten into it with the Uni-watch guy because I find teams that have the older style of uniform design to be so boring. One of the reason I feel in love with the Seahawks was the 2000s redesign as that slate blue is my favorite color. I don’t mind a game or two a season with the retro look but keep what we have. Now I do feel like every team should have to do a full redesign of uniforms and logos to keep it fresh as Rob put it but if you haven’t changed in 50 years get with the times I feel. I know that’s would be unpopular but logos and uniforms are some of my favorite things so having a number of teams changing stuff up during the off season would be exciting.

It’s not just you. To me, we are college navy, action green, and wolf grey. The throwbacks are beautiful for their time and some of the best retro’s, but they were replaced. It was an era that didn’t have much success and the team made the change and moved on. Bad look to go back to the originals after the success we’ve had and after only 10 or so years.

I don’t want the team to be one of them that flips back and forth, new designs every few years. To me it’s a bad look and 100% about money.

People have mentioned it giving the team a shot in the arm and if that’s the case…that isn’t good that changing what they are wearing is what did that. We have the best color palate and logo right now that has some intimidation behind it all. I don’t want to go back to bright, happy blues and greens. It ain’t broke so why try to fix it by putting the original tires back on?

  19. geoff u

I hadn’t considered moving back to the originals ones permanently. I kinda like the idea. Bears, Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Chiefs, Raiders…all the old teams just look better in their classic jerseys. Maybe even the Bucs…maybe. Plus with all the alternate jerseys, you can switch it up quite a bit. Like if we play the Broncos again, we should always wear our current jerseys to remind them.
